Topic: how important is the Rising sign really? What does it mean excatly?

OK so we all know the ASC is what mask we where right? but i get confused with the other descriptions saying its WHO WE really are in soul development.. if that's true why wear it as a mask? Is it more important than the sun and moon sign? what heirachy would it go with? IP: Logged |

I've heard that the ASC is more "who we are" in our younger years, because it is the 1st house..and the Sun is who we are developing into..not sure how true that is, though.I take the ASC to mostly mean how we portray ourselves. i hate being aware of scorpio energy (my ascendant) i wish i didn't know what it was and just kept on keeping on. i think astro123 has a calculator which includes the ascendant whereas pullen does not. my ascendant is supposed to be the strongest planet/ angle in my chart. IP: Logged |

your ascendant isnt really a mask, it's can be more accurately described by saying its the stereotype or label you fit into since you were little.For example, me as a libra asc since i was little i was known as "the sweet/nice girl" an aries rising could be known as "the pushy one who is always angry" haha. My cousin is libra with aries rising. that's her label... ------------------

Cap rising.. what would that be?? i really don't think i was a serious child.. who looked wise and mature, lol.. but oh well. I really fit the leo to a T (leo sun and moon)

Yeah, thats why I said I wasn't so sure if that was true...as a child, I was definitely more like my Moon sign (Sagittarius) and in my pre-teen years, much like my Sun sign (Capricorn). As I grow older, I'm more and more like my ASC (Scorpio) so yeah..just stating something I've heard elsewhere. I think they made that connection because the 1st house is associated with Aries which is often called the "child" of the zodiac.IP: Logged |

Th ASC is not a mask, per se. It is a perceptual lens with which you see life. I am a Libra ASC. My first thought in any disagreement is how can we BOTH win. I am very diplomatic. The ASC is part of one but the part we use to walk through our every day life versus our identity(sun) and deepest emotions ( moon)------------------

I can't decide! When I was younger I never saw the Gemini in me. Now that I'm older I see myself more objectively and recognize a lot of Gemini traits. I will say it's definitely hard for me to mind my own business. I am ALWAYS curious. I full of random facts, I'm flirtatious, I have natural verbal and written skills (which just baffles my Scorpio ASC friend. Whenever she needs a resume or cover letter written she asks me because I can make it sound professional and have it done in five or ten minutes.) and I'm great at multi-tasking...for the most part! I'm also indirect and have a tendency to play mind games to test the other person (shame on me, I know.) I'm huge on equality and tolerance as well, and I need variety and constant stimulation or I get irritated. But then I'm stubborn, moody which I heard are Gemini traits but I also have a Taurus moon so I don't know! AH. IP: Logged |

Steven forrest describes it as a mask we were when we are first meeting people. its how we are perceived when someone first meets us.. the first thing i do is tense up and get shy (capricorn asc) but i love your description!

I agree that the ascendant is not a mask.And the ascendant tells us about the chart ruler, which is imo the single most important astrological info you may have on the chart. IP: Logged |

i'm a capricorn rising, and have had a lot of friends tell me that i come off intimidating or serious. their opinions of me changed after we got to talking. i've always been critical about the trait of me because on the inside i'm just timid and shy and hate the idea that people might think i'm trying to be standoffish  IP: Logged |
