AscTaurus - I love your post!! Did you write that? Brilliantly said. I relate to some of what your said about 6th and 8th house as I have Virgo 8th - Jupiter 2nd opposed and Cap Asc. How would you combine my two energies? The same? My moon is also 1st Aquarius. But I am actually quite open and I love attention and recognition! People are often amazed at my vulnerability to dive deep with people I don't know well. I can keep secrets and I can be mysterious, but often my emotions get the best of me and I am compelled to express myself. I am actually such a passionate person I rarely meet people who can match me in my passionate ways. Sometimes I think I overwhelm people with my expressive nature. And I am like this in all aspects of my life. But it always seems to go against that Virgo mannerism or the secretive Scorpio or even the serious Cap...I think it is the Jupiter opposed to sun and my moon I. Aquarius... But I'm not sure. ????I think it would be wise to understand the nature of the 2nd house in order to gain insight to the workings of the eighth. Being zodiacal opposites, there are some practical similarities and insights to be gained either than the cliché label of “the house of sex/transformation”. I have never really understood what all that means.
To me, the 2nd house is about possessions, self esteem and what we own (talents, capabilities and values). These things are sort of a “barter” of what we offer the world and maybe that is why the 2nd house is also called “the attraction factor”; not only for relationships but also for personal wealth and social standing.
What the 2nd house rules is “the power within”, in direct contrast then, the eighth house is “the power without”- meaning the power over others.
Many issues that govern the eighth house are focused in intimate relationships, capacity for sharing, power and sexuality. It is very important for the Sun in 8th house individual to master these issues in order to realize who they really are.
The signs do give an indication of whether the native will be focused on sharing, power or sexuality (but the three themes continually re-occur in the native’s life). But the eighth house affords the native with a certain “magnetism” that can be used constructively/destructively on others.
For instance:
If the Sun is in Scorpio, the power that the individual wields over others may be through being sexually proficient.
If in Taurus, the power that the individual wields over others is through financial influence, wealth or knowing all the right contacts.
If the Sun is in Capricorn, the power the native yields over others may be through a position of authority/hierarchy. They may be seen as reputable and worthy of respect without doing much.
If the Sun is in Virgo, the power the individual yields over others is the ability to be efficient, effective, cool headed in many things that one does. They may be very sought after for their practical acumen.
If the sun is in Libra, the native may be proficient in getting people to co-operate or co-ordinate seemingly opposing sides.
If the Sun is in Sagittarius, it may be that the native is extremely knowledgeable in many varied subjects and draws others in as “students”. The knowledge the individual has is likely not to be found in a textbook.
If in Gemini, the native may have the ability to influence others through just speaking to them or being able to relate. This is a sought after public speaker or public relations officer who certainly can be a “spin” doctor.
In each case, the natives’ identity may be very much tied to the ability they have to influence/ have power over others. This is because there is a detachment from themselves- not acknowledging the power they have within themselves so they over-compensate this oblivion with seeking to gain power over others
