Maye it's been mentioned but I haven't seen it after sifting through the posts here... house placement and sign placement are going to affect a planet in different ways.

For example, Venus in Scorpio in the 12th house will be both in detriment (by sign) and in "accidental exaltation" (by house). As far as I know, house placement dignities and debilitations affect a planet due to the nature of the house they're in (12th house is a "Piscean house" even if the sign isn't Pisces, 1st house is an "Arian house," etc.). A planet is "accidentally" dignified or debilitated since the planet, sun, or moon is in the house and not the sign itself.

I actually understand and agree with scorpy's point.

Yes, the planet *is* modified by the house, obviously. But that planet is expressed in that sign's way, not in the "house way" as someone pointed out.

It's easy and it's been stated here more than once.

planet: the "what" ie the activity

sign: the "how" ie manner of expression of the activity

house: the "where" ie area of life where the activity is manifested

I know it's not that easy and there are indeed complications (aspects) but usually there are several "markers" in a natal chart.
So if you have a loaded 8th house, chances are that you have some Scorp or Pluto there too.

But that might be intentional, and more about ego and trying to mark territory that they think is theirs exclusively - and have attached a certain amount of their personal identity and pride to - than about astrological accuracy. To some extent their name gives he/she away...

As a Virgo, I'm not sure what you are saying here... What am I missing? Maybe you were being more general and not saying this specifically to me.

But regardless, I'm in agreement that I am far from a scorpio personality. I don't say I'm so scoprio like just because I have planets here. It's just my LIFE has lots of themes associated with the 8th house with my Venus and Sun and all the aspects it makes...

someone said that descriptions are the culprit and i definitely agree. though, i feel that most descriptions of scorpio fail to catch what scorpio really is about. they magnify what is truly minute in terms of the whole.

i disagree with the statement of signs being less important than the house. i think that they both are. if that were true then people who have planets in the same houses but different signs would experience the areas of that house almost exactly the same which is not the case.

duude, thumbs up to you agaiiin.
Right, I've never seen someone saying "I have my whatever in 4H ....or 2H."
Even the ones with planets in the 1H they consider the effect of planets and the sign ... and they rarely mention anything about feeling so Aries.

This shows obviously, when they state the planet being in the 8H , withOUT even mentioning the sign !! seriously ?!

And I agree about the description of Scorpios having missing pieces.
