They say houses kinda compensate.
So say you have no planets in Air, but you have a stellium in the 3rd (or even Sun or Moon there) and it gives an airy vibe to that planet (same with the 7th and 11th house, and other houses and elements, obviously).

What it does to me, it seems, is that I'm often attracted to people who have some Fire in them but it clashes all the time. It's like they have that something that I don't and it creates a weird push/pull dynamic.

having Virgo ASC does give me Mercury
then I have Mercury in CAP tho...

but! if you count decans - I was born under he 3rd (virgo-merc) Cap decan - and Virgo rising - 1st decan - so double virgo/merc~~

according to both pullen and colour - I've Mercury dominant~ (well Pullen puts Jupiter first but only slightly so)...

Vedic gives me a lotta air, and progressed/Draconics~

Started out very earthly --- but, I kinda' feel more in touch with the little breeze coming through my chart~ haha

~ I was super, incredibly, horribly shy as a child.... I barely spoke over a hush. I did not communicate well at all... very alienated from my peers at that time.

My Gemini NN -feels- like it's calling me outta my fire/earth/water tomb...

dunno how much influence these things all of but - there's gotta be some -influence- coming through, or that will for you in time... I believe.

It helps to associate with that element more through connections with others who have it~ even when you don't connect or fully understand each other. The experience and new direction can help you to overcome the void.
Learning from Aquas and Gems has been extremely important in my own life, I can honestly say. - it's probably a part of your astro-purpose to overcome the lacking energy in other ways~ and find it in yourself. ^^
