I have Sun sq Pluto but I also have Mercury and Moon sq Pluto so I can't really say how it affects me.

Sun square pluto makes you a tyrant and intolerant of bs....I have a bad temper but it has to be something extremely horrible nowadays but when I was younger that was a different story. Sun square pluto gives will power and the tenacity to finish up what you started. In synastry it's indicative of power struggles.

It creates a situation of who can be the boss...depending upon which planets it is, it can be hard for the partner to be willing to be the less dominate person.

I have this aspect and it is super hard to deal with, nothing I do is ever good enough and it makes me super defensive. You get into a ton of ego wars. I just started to show people my real feelings and being really honest with myself and that has really helped. Good luck...

I have the Sun square Pluto aspect in my chart. It has definitely given me the "control or be controlled" feeling, especially when I was a child/teenager. There were times where as soon as I decided to back down and hold my tongue, someone else would take on the Pluto role and boss me around. Very frustrating and it's a period of my life I want to forget. Still suffering from low confidence because of it. I've had my fallouts, and those have been quite the turning point for me. They always forced me to take a step back and think of what I said, and how I can handle things more gracefully next time. (Guess that's Pluto - transformations!)

In relationships, I can't really say as I also have Venus in the 12th house, so I'm often attracted to the wrong people. I've had three relationships and in all of them, it was actually me who was being dominated.

It does give me a lot of willpower when things get rough. I never know how I do it, but I always manage to either drag myself through it or at some point decide it's been enough and I pick myself back up. It's like a switch gets flipped inside my head, I just... feel it's the right moment to get back into things? I'm very sensitive and I've accepted that's how people see me, so it was a huge surprise for me to find out what I could put up with when I had to. So the "stomping all over others" might not be that powerful. I see it as a quiet strength that comes out when it's needed. Or it can really set off your temper, like said in the replies above mine...

I'm struggling with it as well. Often it feels as if the minute I show another side of me or when I'm not all sunshine and rainbows, people go off on me or at least complain about my attitude, calling me a whiner or a killjoy. Yeah, well, sorry. I'm only human, sometimes I'm in a bad mood. But when I try to tell them so they know where they stand with me (that it's nothing personal or something they did or said, no, I'm just not feeling too good at the moment), it's not always taken well. Ego struggles indeed.

In which houses are the Sun and Pluto? That could give you more of an idea. (Do you have the aspect or somebody else?)

(Wow, this got way longer than I thought. Sorry!)

I have this aspect and I've really come to terms with it, as I have with all of my Plutonian stuff in my chart.

I'd say it manifested very negatively in my teen years. Made me just perenially frustrated: very impatient, very intolerant, very temperamental, etc. And yes, I think it can make one very tyrannical, too.

But, think all Plutonian people need just a huge lesson in letting go and that's what eventually brings some peace and stability into your life.

This aspect can also be caught in a lot of power struggles. The 'control or be controlled' game meisseri talked about is spot on. But, I've learned to detach from it. It's all a matter of perspective. No one can TRULY control you. Authority figures can tell you what to do, when we're younger our parents play the same role. But, we make the CHOICE of whether to follow or not. If I really resented my boss that much, I could just quit my job. If I felt that dominated by my parent, I could limit my interactions with them and also just simply tell them "No, I won't do that." And no one can truly control anyone's true nature or personality, not even us powerful Plutonians. We can hardly even control our own true nature. People are who they are.

With maturity, a Sun square Pluto person will know how to handle these situations better, especially as they seem to attract them into their lives. I always tell myself that all of the important power comes from within. THERE IS NO REAL POWER STRUGGLE. At least, not externally. That's a good motto to go by for all Plutonians. Because, the compulsion to engage in power struggles means that you're not properly handling your own power within. Once you accept that you hold a power inside that NO ONE can ever take away from you, no matter what they say or do, you'll see no need to indulge in those battles for control.

Basically, no tolerance for people saying they will do something, and then not doing it. No tolerance for "Experts" who do not know what they are doing.

Just be real, we'll get along fine, from beggar to the wealthy, just be yourself.

Not quite the tyrannical placement it is made out to be at least in my case

You know... this aspect is probably the only aspect in my chart that gives me the strength to push forward. The anger that it can generate can really help you get through life. I was raised in foster care and if I did not have a huge ego I probably wouldn't have had the fight in me to make to to where I am now. I am almost finished with a PhD in science none the less. My pluto is in the 6th house in scorpio. I like to dig. The best way to deal with this, in my opinion, is to find ways to deal with anxiety. Men have come into my life that have formed trines to my sun with their pluto and those guys have helped me accept myself for me. I don't know why that is... maybe it eases the harshness of the square? It can be a good thing if you see how powerful the aspect can be. I am an aquarius with almost everything in pisces... lol... squared neptune, doubling the pisces... from the 8th houses! Water everywhere... but that sun square pluto can really protect you, if you can find ways to deal with the low self-esteem... for me it was diving into the arts and allowing people to see the real me... and realizing that people liked me even more for who I really was... they already saw my heart, it was me who couldn't see myself or how powerful I was. I was scared of the power that comes with this aspect. I am super aggressive (although moon/mars also helps).

Having a strong Pluto can be a real blessing, or at least for me... it makes me so intense and I dig so much that in the end I end up learning so much about people and since i understand that the power struggle is all in my mind... I become way more compassionate and people come to me for direction or perspective.

Great points! Very insightful and I can relate to so much of the stuff said here. OP is getting a lot of input.

I read that "control or be controlled" thing either on AstroClick or CafeAstrology. Immediately hit home with me. Especially the CA one is so good, it was like someone had taken a page from my diary. So personal!

4th and 7th, wow, that sounds hard. I'm only a beginner, so I don't know how much of a help I can be, but could it have to do with life and feeling safe at home? Someone's strongest feelings come out in private/behind closed doors, like because they feel they can't really relax and let go? With the 7th house, that might be towards the partner. If anyone has a better interpretation, please do.

So, what about the houses Sun and Pluto are in? Can they make it easier or harder to cope with? My gut says it would change some of the attitude that person has towards the aspect.

I agree on the choice thing as well! Even though it doesn't feel like it, you still get to choose in how you try to deal with it. Sometimes it feels more intern than extern. Or it becomes extern because you ignore what you feel? That moment when it gets through to you that you can't change people, even though you think they should... it's painful. And yes, it makes you so much more aware of yourself. The learning is wonderful <3

The hardest thing about it is having to let go. And that means giving away power. Sometimes to the wrong people, who happily use that chance to treat you like dirt. But the challenge is to stand your ground. Be prepared to defend yourself. I ended up getting the exact reactions I'd been so scared of and way worse, but it was all part of that transformation. There have been extreme arguments where I actually felt good afterwards. Horrible, too, knowing I'd pretty much screwed things up with those people for good, but at least I'd finally said what I had been feeling all along (and other friends who'd told me in private, but never said anything because they were too afraid of the reactions).

LOL this was actually one of the first posts I ever made on this board! Weird to see it again.

To add to the thread, I have this aspect in synastry and composite with anyone around my age (as Pluto's generational), and it can become pretty messy when more personal planets are involved. The square between Leo and Scorpio is tough, I don't want to back off and leave a toxic friendship or relationship even if it'd clearly be best for me. My Sun doesn't want to out of fear of being made fun of or not having given it a proper chance, then Pluto Scorpio doesn't want to look weak. So I stay. It sucks.

But on the plus side, it gives you a very strong sense of survival. I hate how many of my friends end up treating me (Sun in the 11th making the aspect), I hate how I end up alone so often... but I can do it. I just don't want to.

Has anyone here had any experience with people making it a Grand Cross in synastry? Does it matter in which mode?

Why am I immune to all this? I have it natally a with so many people in synastry - literally don't feel it with others. Debatable with myself. I could see it when I was younger. I feel that people with difficult natal charts have to overcome these aspects and I feel like I have or have made serious progress
