This is kind of a double question:

1. In hanna's "Aries, me and attraction" thread people started talking about whether or not 8H cusp sign is significant in what traits lure you in romantically. Most people look to 7H cusp, but I don't think it's as accurate as 8H cusp. What's your experience with this?

2. I've actually been wondering for a while if the sign on a house cusp is generally what we feel influencing that house, or if other signs within it also play some role? Most of us don't have houses that all start at 0 degree angles, so we've probably all got two (maybe 3) signs in each house. When planets are in a house but in the sign that doesn't rule the house, I identify way more with the sign planets are in for influence over the house rather than the house cusp sign.
e.g. I have Venus/Pluto in Scorpio in 8H, but Libra is on 8H cusp. I think my 8H is way more Scorpio-influenced than Libra.
How, though, does house cusp sign play into placements such as these?

Virgo is in my 8th house along with my moon & i've always been attracted to or gotten along with the sign quite easily.

One of the best kissers I've kissed was a Virgo and just an all around cool dude. ......oh wait....there were actually two of them. Sexy beasts imo. I get a long great with the females too. I do think it's because their Suns fall in that relationship house (8th) one of them had Merc and Venus in Leo (in my 7th). Lots of laughs and great sex with one of them.

Check out the book Skymates by Steven and Jodi Forrest. It will tell you more about how important the "relationship houses" are (5th,6th, 7th & 8th) in synastry. Yes, the 6th house too.

I understand the 2nd question, but right now I am unable to formulate a good answer and I think someone lurking these boards could give you a better one.

However, I answered the 1st question in Hanna's thread. I'll just copy/paste.

My 8th house is Cancer, where my Leo Sun and Venus resides. I have come to the point where I can't stand Cancer placements (romantically) sadly. Water kills me. Now I won't discriminate if someone approached me with a Cancer Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars but I'll partially know what to expect... other aspects, chart patterns, and experiences pending. However, there was a time when Cancer Mars men were the only males I dealt with, and the fact that I still end up with men who have "stereotypical" Cancer qualities despite lacking Cancer in their chart. My 5th house is Aries. I do love Aries placements, that is more of a surefire attraction pointer.

Ah, now I kind of have an experience answer to your question. I do feel that my Leo planets in the 8th house are overshadowed by the ruling sign Cancer, or the very least the ruling planet Moon. I feel that for a Leo I am oversensitive at times. Not all Cancer Suns are sensitive and Leo Suns insensitive but the feminine Moon is our emotions and instincts, those are integral parts of my personality. Same with my Venus, I tend to express care rather than flashiness like Leo Venus might suggest.

Interesting that you find the house ruler to be stronger than the sign planets are in. The only planet (oddly enough) that I feel the house ruler has some power over is my Moon in Cancer in the 4H....I feel like Gemini has a bit more influence in my Moon energy than Cancer does...but it is also in 1 degree Cancer, so maybe being that close to Gem cusp plays some role. As a general rule (for me), I feel like the sign planets are within a house in rule the house more than the actual house cusp....BUT i have mostly conjunctions in my chart, so it's based off that (i.e. planets will be together in the sign not ruling the house)

Taurus is my 8th house, and on top of that my South Node is there....I LOVE TAURUS energy! Cant get enough of them esp with a sun/venus conjunction!
So funny the very few times ive met a taurus i didnt like, i found out there sun fell in my 7th not my 8th...lol! So much for 7th ruling my desire to fall in love with someone, its all about the 8th for me!

Wow, Lotis! You have given me so much to think about! I really appreciate your taking the time to reply with such in-depth responses and personal applications of what you're discussing.

Interestingly enough, because of the way my house placements fall the traditional ruler of each house is actually the sign in (just under) the last half of each one: I have Pisces rising at 13 degrees, so the first 17 degrees of my house are all in there, the last 13 in Aries, or 1H's traditional ruler...and so on with the rest of the houses). You said big portions of the latter sign in a house means we can look at both signs for influence, but mine are already both there! Easy! haha.

My house angles don't change the placements of planets or cusps whether or not I use the equal house system, so I just use equal houses for convenience. I've also got a lot of empty houses, so I imagine looking at placements of house rulers' planets would be the only way for me to really get deeper insight to what I might find attractive. So, in applying what I've just learned from you my own chart goes as follows:

5H cusp is Cancer, which traditionally rules the 4H. 4H cusp is Gemini, Merc in Sag (I'll get to this in 8H). Moon is in Cancer in 4H also though... I'm actually not sure what to make of this. I've never really felt connected to Gemini or Cancer signs or placements (my own or others'), so this is kind of a mystery to me. Cancer Moon being at home and also ruling this house seems significant somehow, but it's opposite my Sun, Neptune (both in Sag), Uranus, and Juno (both in Cap). Maybe all those oppositions make for my having a hard time connecting with/deciphering this energy? ***Your insight would be much appreciated here ***

DSC cusp is Virgo, which traditionally rules 6H. 6H cusp is Leo, and I have no planets in 6H. Sun is in Sag. It's true: I definitely have a thing for the confidence Leos exude and how fun-loving they are, and they've always also been attracted to me. Actually every boyfriend I have had has been a Leo sun. I also like people who think broadly, love to engage in philosophical discussion, and have a general zest for life.

8H cusp is Libra, which traditionally rules 7H. 7H cusp is Virgo, and I have no planets in 7H. Mercury is in Sag. Again, yeah: I am very drawn to people who are intelligent and like to communicate their ideas. I think I just "click" better with people who have pursued higher education, and a witty/quick intellect is a surefire way to draw me in. I also have a thing for people in the legal field/law really engages my attention (Libra influencing this from its being in the last half of this house...Virgo/cusp energy is not so much my thing).

My Juno is in Capricorn, which initially baffles me as much as my 5H/Moon placements. I can't remember ever being attracted to a Cappy...in fact, I recently posted about how earth signs and I just DO NOT get along, me and Cappies in particular. When I think about it though, commitment and "stability" are both really big deals to me in relationships, in two ways: 1) I don't enter into romantic relationships easily or lightly, and I am usually single and not real big on dating around. 2) I have a very strong desire for a guy I know will be able to "protect" me, in the sense of being reliable, steady, and dependable. So maybe the Juno placement does make some sense.

I would eventually like to be in a serious, committed relationship, but it's just not something I actively seek. I found a thread on this placement and several things ring true for me, but the one thing that really struck me was this:

"Not surprisingly, many Juno in Capricorn natives eventually choose to forgo marriage all together, feeling it just isn't "for them." They will readily do this before they will settling for anything less than what they need."

The fact that I have empty fifth, sixth, and seventh houses particularly seems to emphasize this for me. However! Of all these houses and which I find most appealing (as you said we all have different bents for each one), I vibe most with my DSC analysis for attraction to a partner. Verrrrry interesting.

Thanks again for all that information!! I haven't much dabbled into synastry, so others' planets falling into my houses isn't something I can't readily comment on or understand...I'm still just trying to learn my own chart and individual charts, but eventually I imagine I'll move to combinations of things like synastry

@Lotis! I have been quoting your links to the personal readings thread for those who are seeking for reference on synastry. I hope you don't mind I find your theory really helpful and spot on!

I've been trying to investigate why I feel like I do for a certain person.

My moon falls in his 8th house,my 7th house stellium falls in his 9thhouse,my DSC ruler is moon, my Jupiter falls in his 7th house that is occupied by his natal Jupiter that trines his moon,so we have Jupiter conjunct Jupiter in syanstry, my 5th house ruler is Jupiter, I have Jupiter sextile sun natally..sun is my 8th house ruler, and I have mars in 8th house..I dunno I'm starting to find a link somewhere in all this but am lost already lol

Hi LotisWhite

I have read this in other threads you posted in, but really somehow..... My Sun is conj Jupiter in the 8th and the 8H cusp is in Capricorn, and my attitude towards capricorn qualities is well... summarised as fear and loathing. I definitely don't want to merge with Capricorn energy in the most intimate way possible. It is a turnoff if anything. Formal dress is another turn off. If I went to bed with a Capricorn I would commit suicide the very next morning, out of self-loathing.

Juno in Libra, Dsc in Saggi, Neptune in the 7th - what am I doing wrong?
