i've always been curious as to why neptune is so hated within the astrological community. i understand the potentials for self-delusion and deceit that this planet could provoke within a person, but since it is also the higher form of venus, wouldn't neptune also be capable of transcending all of that? even with hard aspects, is the plight of neptune really that inescapable?
i understand that every friction in a chart can be handled in an emotionally mature fashion that helps a person to evolve. so i guess my question is, why does that school of thought not also carry over when interpreting synastry and composite charts? to me, it's almost like saying that though neptunian person A and neptunian person B is fully aware of this energy and has taught themselves to stay grounded, when they spark a friendship or a relationship, everything is fated to dissolve into despair.
and to challenge that mentality, i'll even throw in my own experiences:

1. sun inconjunct neptune composite with a friend of 5+ years: my best friend. we've both seen the good/the bad/the ugly and i love them to bits.
2. 3 minor postive neptune aspects in composite with ex-boyfriend: we were together for almost 3 years. there was cheating involved. a lot of misunderstandings and expectations that were never lived up to.
3. neptune aspects every planet in composite, majority of them being hard aspects: a close relationship that has been building over the last 6 months. a little heavy with the need to communicate so often because we tend to misinterpret each other sometimes, but i've never been able to be so open before, much like with my friend in scenario 1.

does anyone else possibly have non-traumatic neptunian experiences that they could share?

Neptune CAN transcend. It's simply a matter of devotion.

The thing about Neptune, is it can play tricks on you, you can get totally blindsided....

Neptune feels good and right and dreamy.... Then bam you realize it wasn't but a fantasy...

Neptune tricks you, st least with other planets you see it at first coming at u, not with Neptune, one day the fog clears....

That's the general reason..

Neptune can cause panic. I worry things will be chaotic. After this initial panic passes, I remember Neptune only wants me to experience peace and calm. That's all. Neptune wants what is best for me and I have to choose how to get it. It's not the enemy. I am my own enemy.

but wouldn't it be the person's responsibility to understand and navigate through that fog rather than say, "oh, well there it is again. guess i have to wait it out"?

edit: i guess it depends on that person's temperament, i'm normally one to think that if something is going to well, you should probably investigate it to be sure

Neptune can make u feel like everything is perfect, most people aren't going to question a perfect feeling..

Neptune can be beautiful also, it can really touch you deeply and add romance and idolize some one..

Yes, people are responsible, but sometimes u just don't see it, and that's Neptune.

Even after the fog clears I think your capable of still loving that person for who they really are.

Speaking from experience.

I love Neptune! We are best buds. I think the thing about all outer planets is if you don't know they are effecting you, they wreak havoc.

Uranus for example will make a person have a panic attack until they burn every bridge associated with whatever Uranus feels is no longer contributing to their ideals.

Pluto will physically maim or murder you if you ignore its building pressure.

Neptune tends to be difficult to deal with when we don't know how to respond to it or see it coming. Once you learn to feel the tide rolling in, Neptune (any outer planet really) can be a welcome guest.

One thing to remember (and it's something I've read in astrology books and sites) is that Neptune can be difficult to deal with for unevolved individuals. We all must wrestle with this elusive planet one way or another. Some are simply able to reap its benefits, while others can feel bitter toward it if they haven't transcended its darker qualities.

I LOVE Neptune! Illusion ISN'T ALL BAD! It's an artist's planet! What would theater be without illusion? How could an actor move us if s/he could transport us into a fantasy for a while? Part of my pleasure in ballet is the illusion of making the difficult look easy and the impossible look possible! And I LOVE it when the sandman brings me an enjoyable dream even after I wake up and realize that it was only a dream.

I happen to have a 1st house Neptune squaring both my Sun and Moon, so even in hard aspects, I think it is a wonderful planet.

I have Jupiter and Venus, both squaring Neptune, and really haven't foung true the descriptions associated with those aspects. (Delusion in love, etc.) If anything, those aspects take me and my S.O. off to a relam of fantasy where we can both come back to reality anytime we want.

Perhaps Neptune adversely affects those whose Neptune/Piscean influence is weak and might find Neptune to be overwhelming.

Ouranos and beyond are actually hard planets on little people like us. That's because Kronos is the barrier between what's real, while planets beyond are of different dimensions almost.

In Poseidon's case, the worst things can happen in the middle of the night while everyone sleeps. Things deteriorate and it's hard to happen because it happens gradually. Many people equate Poseidon to addictions, because the addict is slowly killing themselves, their life is out of control, and the addict doesn't (want to) realise it.

The same can apply to relationships with Poseidon in power. Deception, depression, looking for what's bad...Aphrodite, of which Poseidon is the 'high vibration', can be hedonistic, and it's the same with Poseidon, only on a more grisly scale. Rather than just flirting and maybe romancing the people around you (Aphrodite), you're speedballing meth and coke while having sex with a stranger in a bathroom stall (Poseidon).

Point is, a small bit of Poseidon is good, great even! Things can become out of this world (as with Ouranos and Hades). But too much and things start going downhill - what I've listed above are the great downsides to Poseidon.

Not possible! It rules Pisces and we're absolutely lovable creatures

It does have a bad reputation though. And that's because not a lot of people are strong enough to understand it's influences. You can't fight Neptune. You have to realize it, understand it, and swim with it. Sometimes in multiple directions, lol.

I've been in situations where Neptune has worked it's ugly magic instead of bestowing it's wisdom.. It sneaks up on you from behind and rips your soul out because everything you thought you knew and loved (You did say Neptune was like Venus..) just disintegrated before you.. That's how Neptune got a bad rap.

Just a few observations

1) one of my lovers' Neptune (Rx) was square Mercury and sure enough he got heavily addicted to substances. The most horrible story ever. I know it's a square

2) I have Psyche in Pisces, Neptune in the 7th conj Dsc, Mars in Pisces, Venus/Mars sextile Neptune and I think this makes up my personality, whatever they have to say. It is my manner of loving that I value most about myself, this idealistic/compassionate/emotional essence I wouldn't know how to do without. Also the capacity for being moved by people and things.

So I don't know why people are negative about Neptune. It's not Saturn you know

Sometimes you can be so moved, your throat hurts, your head splits, the skin on your face dissolves (or feels like it is from all the salt in the tears.) This has happened to me.

One can be moved to the point that is physically painful.

It's just like one of those fabled tempests inflicting the sea with all it's fury and dread.
