Take a look at this video clip:
http://newwayastrology.tumblr.com/page/8

You'll need to scroll down about 3/4 down to page. The clip is called "The most important thing in synastry is . . ."

The surprise answer is THE SECOND HOUSE. This is not what I've come to expect, but after watching this, it makes so much sense. See what you think.

Aww, SSS, what's wrong with Neptune? I like that guy

VenusinCap89, do you have a copy of your chart? Do you have an accurate birth time? If you don't have a chart, but do have a birth time, go to Astro.com to extended chart selections and you can have one drawn up.

Yeah Neptune is cool but he isn't exactly a "self worth" planet, more a "merger." In fact, Neptune often shows up during corporate mergers.

Self worth and Neptune are completely juxtaposed. Maybe it's part of my ongoing identity crisis?

Now an identity crisis DOES sound very Nep-ish. I've got him squaring my Sun with only an 8 minute orb. But he doesn't rule my 2nd. I've got Pluto on the cusp there and an empty 2nd house. Pluto does sextile Neptune though. Can't seem to get away from his trident. Don't think I really want to

Kero - The second house is important because of self worth and early childhood development so if you were in an unstable environment, it means you have trouble with issues like self worth and it shows up in your relationships so the video suggests looking at the natal 2nd house first thing to find out about someone's self worth.

Second house ruler Moon is doing pretty well.

Venus in Cap you have a Virgo ruled second house so we would look to Mercury in your fifth house, critical at 29 Sagittarius. It has some tense aspects. How do you feel about yourself? Maybe you doubt your Mercury skills like effective communication and compensate by being dogmatic at times?

This astrologer takes the psychological approach to astrology and view the 2nd house as what we value about ourselves or our self worth/self esteem. If we haven't worked through any issues there, it impacts our relationships. Even a near-perfect synastry (aspect wise) can fail if we don't first deal with our baggage. Likewise, checking someone else's 2nd house and talking to them to see if they've worked through anything going on there is important to making a relationship work.

He's very big on choices. I like this guy because he never takes a fatalistic approach. It's not about what the planets are doing, but about what I'm doing with my planetary energies that counts. I've been reading his blog quite a bit lately.

Yeah I am generally confident about myself but I do doubt myself at times when it comes to communication skills and I do feel like I have hard time relating to people sometimes

I am more interested in someone's natal chart than a synastry chart. I've always felt looking at someone's natal is more telling.

Do you think it is because of your upbringing, particularly when you were very young, like from birth to around four years old? The video suggests 2nd house issues of self worth originate then. Maybe you talked too much and were told to be quieter or you didn't like to talk much? Something to do with communicating? Were you in a critical environment where others expected a lot from you at a very young age?

That was a timely read because I had been thinking about starting a thread on the importance of the 2nd house in synastry. I have been noticing a few things about the 2nd house that I had not seen mentioned anywhere.

Mercury is involved in the t square we already discussed, with the moon and Jupiter, and it rules your second house and eleventh house. How are your friendships in general? What about self worth and your friendships? Do you see a connection there?

Fifth house is traditionally ruled by Leo so it has kinship with attention seeking behaviors/feeling like you are not getting enough attention. What about your friends? Do you feel like they give you enough attention?

The first step is always becoming aware of it. If we know where our insecurities lay, we can be more honest about it when dealing with others. Some of the examples that this guy gives on his website are extreme forms of abuse and the client required getting some therapy to deal with the trauma. But I think most of the time we can work on things ourselves once we're aware of them and face them honestly. That may actually be the hardest step! If I can recognize what I'm doing that's causing problems in how I relate to others, than I can chose to change how I behave.

Well in my earlier years, I definetely felt that I wasn't getting enough attention lol
hmmm these days I keep my distance with friends :s some friends say that I am wayy too picky xD I think I have built my self worth a little too high ha
I guess I answered my own question.. I gotta be a little more open minded I guess
but so hard :s

oh and does the fact that I have 2nd house in Virgo mean I should look for people who have 2nd house in capricorn or other virgo compatible signs?

You would be better off with a Saturn ruled person imo, and one who has Capricorn on the descendant that way your Venus would be in house seven. Do you find yourself drawn to those with Cancer rising?

Such people might be more serious and you might need this sort of energy in your life, solid and stabilizing. Do you appreciate people with wry senses of humor? Saturn ruled people often have them. What about a partner with Aqua placements, like sun, moon or Venus? Maybe Aqua with some Capricorn or Pisces to go with your Venus in Cap?

Capricorn or Aqua are good choices for you.

Your ninth house has both Aries and Taurus. How do you get along with suns and moons of these signs? My moon is in your ninth house, btw.

Your fifth is Sag and Cap so Capricorn planets would fall in either your fifth or sixth. Fellow Sags would fall in your fourth or fifth. Fourth house is good imo for personal relationships and really getting to know someone.

I am not sure it is relevant for all synastries.

Although in my case - I have 8th house sun and my husband's saturn is in my 2 house, right opposition to my sun. I really think this relationship was a mirror to my insecurities, lack of self worth and so on.

Strangely enough, when he had saturn return, so transiting saturn was in opposition to my sun I met other guy, fell in love madly and decided to break up. The second guy's moon is in my 2 house, opposition to my sun.

The video gave me the impression it's about looking at each natal chart to see what the second house looks like, if there are planets inside, what sign is on the cusp, what condition is the ruler in, not necessarily what is in the second house in the synastry chart.

So, in your natal chart, what sign rules the second house, is there anything inside and what is the ruler of the second house doing? Maybe you could look at the sign Taurus as well since it traditionally rules the second house. Anything going on in that sign could affect self worth maybe, along with the second house?
