Ah no, not that again! This calculator give the exact star-constellation you have been born in (in my case Ophiochus). Western astrology - for the most part- applies the tropical zodiac.
Different systems. IP: Logged |

Ok yes many of us aren't born with our sun in the proper constellation that matches our sign, BUT those of us who believe that our sun is still in the correct sign believe so because we think that the true signs, whatever they are (maybe magnetic energy in space) have very little to do with the stars. The stars were only a means to map out the areas for these signs 2000 years ago. Most of us believe that the signs are actually areas in space and although the stars have moved, the actual signs have not. This is why we believe our sun is still in the correct sign. IP: Logged |

No actually this calculator is based on the constellation zodiac, which is a little different.

This is true, from the earths slight wobble over thousands of years, the sun now passes the constellation 'Ophiuchus' , governing the center of the milky way. (O-fee-u-kus) is the only signs with no opposite polarity, it rules the energy of the 'Divine Feminine Snake' and is the only sign with a real human as a representative - Imhotep, Ophiuchus is connected with Egypt.IP: Logged |

Is this that thing where people try to debunk astrology by pointing out that the TROPICAL zodiac doesn't match up exactly to the constellations?Actually in Western Astrology the constellations have NOTHING to do with what sign you are. The tropical zodiac is tied to the Solar Year (the Earths path around the Sun), and the turning of the seasons... The equinoxes and solstices. So yeah… Here’s a bit of science on the matter… The equinoxes refer to when the days on this planet are of perfectly equal in length. This happens at the start of Spring and Fall/Autumn. The solstices refer to when the days are at their longest on one hemisphere of the planet, and at their shortest in the opposite hemisphere. This happens at the start of Winter and Summer. Western/Tropical astrology does not make use of the constellations. It's based on the Solar Year, the Earth going around the Sun. Because the Earth is tilted at an angle, one hemisphere will get more light and heat from the Sun during the Summer/Winter parts of the rotation. As we know, during the start of Summer/Winter the days are very short in one hemisphere, and very long in the other. As the seasons progress they become more equal (leading to the next equinox). And during the start of the Spring/Fall/Autumn parts of the rotation, the amounts of light and heat from the Sun (day lengths) starts out being equal for each hemisphere, and grows more disparate as the seasons progress (leading to the next solstice). Again, as we know, the seasons of the year are reversed for each hemisphere. When it's Winter in Brisbane Australia, it's Summer in New York. What season it is in your location has no baring on what sign you are. It's just that the cycle of the equinoxes and solstices show the turning of the Western/Tropical Zodiac at cardinal points. The spring equinox is where zero degrees of Aries kicks of in the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere it's the Fall/Autumn equinox that kicks off zero degrees Aries. For Libra it's reversed. In the northern hemisphere Libra starts at the Fall/Autumn equinox. And in the southern hemisphere Libra starts at the spring equinox. Then there's the solstices. Zero degrees Cancer kicks off during the Summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, and during the Winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. Zero degrees of Capricorn kicks off during the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, and during the Summer solstice in the southern hemisphere. How the Earth goes around the Sun and creates the seasons has no baring on the constellations whatsoever. Now in sidereal/Vedic astrology they do make use of the constellations, and base the signs of the zodiac around it. However, Vedic astrology has been in use for thousands of years and they have never seen fit to use the Ophiochus constellation as part of their system. Considering that this astrology has been around for so long, I think they know what they’re doing by not including Ophiochus. They keep the same 12 signs as Tropical Astrology with different starting dates, and different methods of interpretation. Over the years there’ve been a few scientists pushing this whole Ophiochus thing, as if to prove that astrology is inaccurate. But most of them don’t even know the difference between the Sideral and the Tropical Zodiacs. Some random astrological practitioners have started including it in there interpretations, but sometimes it seems that they don’t know the difference between the Tropical or Sidereal zodiacs either. As in they don't mention it, and seem to assume it counts for Western astrology in their interpretations. I don’t really take the Ophiochus thing seriously. If it does mean something, it certainly doesn’t refer to a separate sign. My Western/Tropical Sun sign is Capricorn. It fits for sure. I’m no Ophiochus, which is supposedly my new sign if you include it.
