Was that a big culture change for you to move to NC.

I am guessing the house you were studying is in Buffalo. Its one of the really weird things about the States and Canada. The housing here is very expensive but there is a fear of a bubble going on.

Somewhat, went from NY to FL to NC.

Odd thing now is the sort of native Southern Culture is being drowned out by a massive influx of hipsters and retiring hippies and tourists

And a beer culture that was unheard of even 10 yrs ago, Craft Beer is all the rage here now.

Hmm, mkts being what they are, would not surprise me if Canadians bought houses in that part of the states and just commuted back and forth to work across the border.

As for the OP, my typical weight workout lasts about 15 minutes of high intensity, folks who go to the gym for hours confuse me

Perhaps Saggie ADD at work

--They would still have to cross the border which would hold them up. One cannot simply jump across the border like you used to.

I view going on the trails as fun and not chore for me. I grew up in a very outdoorsy family so being on trails etc is natural for me.I do like your idea about wearing heavier boots to help tone though. I could not work out in a gym, the scenery is stale for me. It also prevents the stupid staring

Agree about the gym, I see guys mostly just there to hang out and occasionally lift weights w/low intensity and BS and oggle women.

Some poor women is trying to get her work in and these frat boy types are all up in their ears.

And agree about being outside, to me the ellipitcal machine w/TV on is just bleech.

Give me my Chipod and Mandarin/Romanian/Arabic lessons to pass the time

Not some mindless ESPN programming

---That happened to a couple of my friends too. They were running on an indoor track and guys would jog behind them to watch their bums.

At least with the outdoors there can always be something different going on. You may go on a trail and find new birds or new animal tracks which for me is fun. I do not want to look at the same four walls all the time. It is also easier to get a good workout bc you do not even realize how far you walk!

Exactly, the gym to me is a very drab place compared to this:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Why would I want to pay to workout when this is outside my front door?

I'm with you guys on that one. I vastly prefer doing stuff outside. Gyms are drudging and about as interesting as the waiting room at the doctor's office. I like working outside as exercise, or dancing to good music with my son.

It's not all that unique actually, that is every somewhat sunny morning.

This is a portion of the hill I have to climb everytime I go uptown via bike, it runs like that for half a mile.

I've went up it so many times it's more like a walk to the store then a workout now.

And keep in mind, that is the last leg of the return trip, there is the 3 miles uptown leg, then the 2.5 mile back home leg that doesn't end when that hills is climbed.

Either way, I much prefer doing that then going to the gym and having to pay $$$ for the privilege of going there

Suspect that is the sort of Aries Asc energy.

This is what I like to do for exercise, haha. Here's me digging our vegetable garden. I'm going to take this down shortly, but I also like to chop wood for the fire, and basically anything in the yard that involves a pickaxe, hahaha.

It looks like it is one of those deadly slow climbing hills. They just kill me! I find I love the more complicated trails instead of the flat straight ones.

--Looks like a really nice garden. I love having a garden and growing my own food. Its a very smart design too, you can always reach to weed. Chopping wood can be very therapeutic for people!

Thank you! We did okay for a first year garden, and now I get to go out and spiff it up a little bit before next season.
I agree about chopping wood. It's really therapeutic in a way. I like the same thing about uprooting things from the earth with the pickaxe. It's good exercise, and helpful for Pluto or Uranus transits, haha.

Used to kill me as well, when returning to college had to bike that each day, every day, along with a 5 mile trip down on the river via bike lane, somedays it was a 10 mile rd trip with that at the end of it!

Can crack walnuts w/my thighs now!

This is one of my shoulder workouts and that is my workout buddy "foxy lady". Have to chop wood to do Charcuterie!

Think I picked up that after hanging out with chefs and other foodies for a year.

Takes 5 hours or more to smoke a pork loin

Saggie adventurism at it's finest!

--I had to do that too this October.Chopping wood can help relieve stress from the day. It is better to get the frustration out than leaving it in your body!

Love the little pup! It always helps to have a work out buddy. I only have a cat who just stares at me like I am crazy.

I totally get the adventurism aspect, I want to do wildness survival training.

Completely agree! Even if I'm not stressed, I think it's a really good way to relieve any stress that I've accumulated throughout the day or the week, or whatever. We had a stump in the yard that I had fun uprooting.

And fresh air is so much lovelier than a bunch of sweaty strangers in a room full of treadmills.

We had a really good turnout with peas, and like a truckload of zucchini, some corn, potatoes, squash...

Our broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots didn't pan out too well this year, but we'll probably add some better soil into those areas and till it before spring.

We planted some raspberry canes along the fence, but I think it takes a few years for those to produce much. We also have a ton of herbs in a separate garden.

How about you?
(I could talk about gardening forever...sorry for hijacking your thread, Cappy.)

--I really wish there was a way to talk about this without hijacking the main thread! I am a new gardener but love growing some carrots, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, kale and lettuce. Our kale was attacked by some bugs so that was really disappointing for us. I love having a variety of fresh veggies.I wanted to try squash and zucinni next year.
