Interesting question.Just a clarification first - the DSC is actually the cusp of the 7th house, so the DSC cannot fall in the 7th house.
North Node in the 7th means you need to develop the traits of your DSC sign, yes.
It doesn't mean you can't look for a partner who will play them out for you, though.
Actually, a partner with those exact traits may be what you need - you could be inspired by them and "copy" their traits and integrate them into yourself.
NN in the 7th house also points to the soul's need for partnerships in order to evolve. However that is precisely a difficult area because the SN in the 1st house is too used to rely on itself and go through life "solo". There could be some problems with self-centerdness, selfishness, insecurity and a fear of commitment.
That's what the 7th house NN is asking you to work on - learning to relate to others in a healthy way and engage in harmonious interaction with others without being too domineering or too submissive. Think of Libra qualities (mixed with Taurus, in your case, since that's the sign of your NN).
Nodes conjunting the ASC/DSC in synastry is a very powerful overlay. You should read about it. I'm not sure how different the ASC conjuncting the SN vs. the NN would be... But either way both are quite compelling, I think.
