It makes sense that there would be alot of Cancer influence or strong 4th house in chart of a hoarder, since it represents something of memories and or nostalgia...But thing is I have all those types of Cancer placements everything but the Sun, and I am the complete opposite of a hoarder, which is spartanism. I actually feel better when I throw things out, I get really bothered by too much stuff around me. IP: Logged |

My aqua stellium in 3rd house daughter is a hoarder, she just loves 'stuff' I stress her out because I love throwing things away, and she wants to keep everything! She even wants all my furniture when she moves out because it reminds her of home, so when I try to change things or buy new stuff she gets upset! The only other hoarders I've known have been Taurus's. I've known many cancers but never known any hoarders that were cancer. IP: Logged |

I can see Taurus influence being that way too, because they are in touch with the physical world and like having nice things around them. Sometimes too much. My husband is the same way, but he's a Leo and he loves collecting sports items, so when we moved to another house you can imagine what it was like seeing us go back an forth arguing about what was going to get packed up and what wasn't lol.

The examples I gave are of people that have hoarding tendencies not of people who have hoarding disorder. I am glad to say I have not met someone who has hoarding disorder yet just people with SOME hoarding tendencies or traits....nothing to do with hoarding disorder.IP: Logged |

Lol! I do the same thing with my daughter! Maybe it's the fixed signs? They just can't let go of the things they get attached to, they can't change things to much! My daughter has a collection of glass bottles, she loves the sparkling water so she saved all the bottles, we have boxes of them in the garage! Ugh! I think I've convinced her to get rid of them this summer, but she wants to break them and create art with the pieces! She saved tabs off cans, bottle caps, cotton balls.....anything she can use in her art work she saves....it drives me virgo moon crazy! Lol

My husband who is also an artist and likes to create things or build things or design things likes collecting in a similar fashion but he never gets to all the projects and yes my sun in virgo doesn't want to collect, it wants to eliminate LOL so is a conflict between his moon in cancer in the second house with his taurus rising and mars in scorpio and my my Sun in virgo that wants to eliminate and my strong jupiter influence that wants space and freedom and I feel possessions are baggage in a way...more things you need to move every time you move and more clutter. Interesting analysis Doux. quote:
People with hoarding disorder show increased brain activity in the orbitofrontal cortex, a region of the brain associated with decision making, when they’re making choices related to material things. The extra “lighting up” of the region, scientists say, is due to greater emotional engagement with belongings. And more effort than normal is needed to complete a simple organizational task.
I can see the link with organizing. I would link hoarding to Taurus and Cancer. taurus loves nice things. Both are sentimental. I used to be a hoarder, mainly clothes. Now not so much. I wouldn't call my case a disorder. I have aspects that ground myself from overdoing it. I am also not brand-conscious. I have Taurus (6H). 6H is how you fix yourself, which i link to fashion. Ruler is Venus which is considered afflicted since it is in retrograde. I've read that you'll have problems loving yourself and identify through material things. This I agree. Once I did, the cycle broke. quote: When asked to identify objects’ most prominent characteristics (shape and color, for example), or to group objects based on shared characteristics, people with hoarding disorder had difficulty completing the tasks. They also had trouble remembering the sequence of things (say, a group of arrows and the direction they face), and performed poorly on tests measuring attention and response time. The results show, in essence, that people with hoarding disorder have the most trouble when categorizing things.
I don't really have a problem with categorizing things or memorizing though. I remember doing those iq tests with those questions. quote:
“There are some problems with attention—that is, distractibility and sometimes a hyper focus, problems with categorization, the ability to organize things,” he explained. “People who hoard tend to live their lives visually and spatially instead of categorically, like the rest of us do.” One of his patients, Irene, would put an electricity bill on top of a pile; if she needed it again, she would remember where it was in space, rather than filing it away—mentally and physically—in a “bills” category.
i think categorization has to do more with Pallas, which is linked to pattern recognition. I do have a huge problem with getting my room organized and no problem remembering where everything is spatially. lol. During the hoarding phase, indeed, I wasn't really buying things to match my wardrobe. But rather it was more of "it's visually beautiful" "i need to include this in my wardrobe even though it doesn't match with anything". It was frustrating thinking I don't have something nice to wear or thinking that I need another outfit for another occasion. After I got over hoarding, the things I buy make more sense. They just match, I didn't care. The stuff I buy are also more me . It's as if something broke inside when you learn to love yourself.

I completely feel you!! I want to feel so light and airy, like I can pick up and move at a seconds notice. One of my best friends has a saggy moon, his motto was if you can't fit it all in a bag, then you've got too much stuff! I have a saggy stellium Sun/Merc/Nep in my 2nd and 3rd houses, my security is based around my need for that freedom from "stuff"....I can feel your stress!! Ugh, thank God we love them, or else we would be throwing them out and all their junk to!! Lol IP: Logged |

This is VERY interesting. I'm not a hoarder, but I've been diagnosed with ADHD, and there's very similar symptoms. For example, organizing for me it's extremely difficult and takes a lot of effort. Whenever I throw away stuff, I have an extremely hard time knowing how to categorize, what's going to be useful or not, how to put it away, etc.. (and no, this isn't because I never learned how to , but that's another issue). Because of that, I tend to throw away stuff that I'll probably be needing in a ftuture. ---------------- "People with hoarding disorder show increased brain activity in the orbitofrontal cortex, a region of the brain associated with decision making, when they’re making choices related to material things.
