While I completely understand that hoarding is a mental disorder, I am very curious to know if there are any markers for this in a natal chart.Anybody have any ideas? IP: Logged |

The 2 hoarders I know, ( and also very messy , they don't clean) have charts with Extreme Cancer influences. One has Sun and Moon, Mercury, and Venus , Mars in Cancer. All in the 8th house, the other has Moon, Venus, Mars in Cancer, all in the 4th house. IP: Logged |

Which makes sense seeing as how cancers are associated with extreme emotions and clingyiness and part of being a hoarder is clinging to objects and the emotions they evoke in the hoarder. And wow all that cancer energy in the 4th house which is basically your "home" just pretty much sealed the deal for me. Well this is my own opinion..I'm just putting two and two together here lol

People who are horders are usually fat and ugly. I am not trying to be mean, I have just noticed that every person who is a horder also happens to be fat and ugly. Seriously, before you say that I am being mean, have you EVER known a horder who has also been really hot and attractive? No? no. I didn't think so.

I don't think you're mean. I think you're just trying to evoke a reaction with this and everything else you've posted, probably out of boredom. Well you've come to the right place, we've got plenty of people here who'll nibble at the bait you leave everywhere thinking you're absolutely serious, at least until you take it too far and Randall gets involved. But by then you should be tiring of the game anyway. IP: Logged |

no I am being totally serious. Before you start accusing me of getting a reaction, why don't you think about what I actually wrote for a second, k? AM I WRONG? Think about this question, let it swirl in your head. AM I WRONG? Every single horder that I have ever known and seen were all fat and ugly and poor. AM I WRONG? Can you actually refute this instead of hide behind the cowardice response of " I can't answer you with an intelligent response".

I have 4 planets in 4th house (Sun, mercury, mars, juno) and cancer ascendant + jupiter. No hoarding here! I admit that I have a very hard time throwing things out, but I'm much to saturn and virgo dominated to see the use of too many things in my home… with the years it has only gotten easier and easier, cause I really hate too much mess (virgo sun)IP: Logged |

I don't know about aspects, but there is something very FIXED about them... So I'd go from that, fixed signs and definitely hard aspects, such as oppositions and squares.Edited: they also seem to dominate their family and are really reluctant to change. But several of them were not always hoarders, so I'd also look at the transits at the time the hoarding started. (I've seen many tv programs about them, never met one in real life, though). I'm not a pathological hoarder but I used to have distinct moments that could be qualified as unhealthy, I guess. It was mainly related to food (back when I was struggling with EDNOS) - I would hide big amounts of food and what not. It's not that way anymore. Now I just tend to keep things for a very long time, even useless things that should be thrown away. And if there's some sentimental value in those things, then you can bet they're gonna stay with me for pretty much ever lol even if I don't care about them that much anymore, it just gives me a sense of security or something. I'm not sure. I have IC in Cancer and Moon opp Saturn and sq Pluto (both aspects are said to cling to the past and find reassurance in it). However I have moments of massive decluttering, where I just snap and throw tons of stuff away (the Pluto purging). It's quite liberating. Still, I usually don't throw things from other people like gifts or cards or notes, even if I don't talk to the person anymore. Taurus and Cancer come to mind, Lunar stuff (making sure that you have everything you need, trying to find security in external things by clinging to them, etc.) IP: Logged |

Don't know, but I would expect the comfort signs like Taurus, Cancer, Leo but any sign can be a horder. Maybe Moon/Venus, Moon/Jupiter, Moon/Saturn, Chiron aspects to personals, afflicted 2nd/8th house, a lack of Saturn aspects or Saturn is stressed in some way. Moon aspects/houses, Sidereal chart/South Node, as this can show past-life hurts and why the person has a need to horde, an unfulfilled soul. Many horders have strained relationships with others so 4th, 7th house. Some horders have a hard time expressing themselves and their feelings to love-ones so they began to horde ie Sun, Moon, Venus.Transits could show when the person became traumatized by an event -- death, job loss, health, childhood issues etc. Horders are recreating a past feeling of comfort by wrapping themselves in things -- they are fearful and escapist (Saturn, Neptune, Moon) IP: Logged |

Moon in Cancer in the second house:This person has a hard time letting go of possessions and has an inclination towards hoarding although he does not have a hoarding disorder. For example he likes to collect things that are broken and tells himself he will fix it but never gets around to it and has difficulty letting go of possession after a year has passed and still has not gotten fixed. With feedback he comes to his senses and lets go but persuasion is required and compromises, e.g. he will let go of some things but keep others in exchange. He has a tendency towards hoarding but it can be kept in check and he is clean and organized. He has a lot of houses in the 6th house. Edit: look at the second house and the moon, odds are the second house and the moon will be involved one way or another. IP: Logged |

Another person I know is a Capricorn and has Uranus in the second trine Moon in Taurus and Pluto trine moon in Taurus. This person hoards but odd things like napkins or plastic utensils LOL for example. This person hoards cheap practical things that are simultaneously unpractical to hoard IMO as it doesn't get used and just occupies space but it makes her feel secure and like she is saving money. She hoards paperwork too. This person keeps house organized but her room tends to be a bit disorganized. Her hoarding is not out of control and is limited to a number of things but it is an ongoing thing throughout her life. IP: Logged |

I am virgo with a lot of jupiter influence and my problem is the opposite, I probably am too quick to get rid of things...too detached and I bounce back from losing possessions easily.I have an empty second house and have moon Pisces in the 4th but nothing in cancer (I am attached to my childhood or "the past" and can be nostalgic but not attached possessions). Conclusion: Look for moon in taurus, moon in the second, north node in the second, the moon aspecting a planet in the second, moon in cancer in the second. Or for extreme cases Tofu makes some good points extreme cancer overload combined with pluto/8th house or second house I could see how that would result in perhaps a hoarding disorder like the ones you see on TV reality shows. Great topic! IP: Logged |

My whole chart is Cancer and Taurus. Cancer sun, mercury, venus and Taurus moon and mars. I CAN'T STAND messes, piles, excessive amounts of stuff, or filth. I have been holding garage sale after garage sale trying to get rid of stuff in my mothers house. In fact I am constantly cleaning up after my VIRGO brother and my Capricorn mother. My brother keeps his place so messy you can't even see the floors and there is a funky oder. My mother and her twin sister are borderline hoarders. They buy stuff constantly and then continuously pile it around their house. They use the "I will use it one day" line. Neither of them pick up after themselves and it is almost impossible to get into my aunts house because there is so much stuff. She is a Capricorn as well. My father who is a LEO kept his house so filthy and cluttered that I don't even think a cleaning crew would have stepped foot in there. I don't think hoarding has any correlation to astrology. It is really just a mental thing. IP: Logged |

Interesting... quote: People with hoarding disorder show increased brain activity in the orbitofrontal cortex, a region of the brain associated with decision making, when they’re making choices related to material things. The extra “lighting up” of the region, scientists say, is due to greater emotional engagement with belongings. And more effort than normal is needed to complete a simple organizational task.
quote: When asked to identify objects’ most prominent characteristics (shape and color, for example), or to group objects based on shared characteristics, people with hoarding disorder had difficulty completing the tasks. They also had trouble remembering the sequence of things (say, a group of arrows and the direction they face), and performed poorly on tests measuring attention and response time. The results show, in essence, that people with hoarding disorder have the most trouble when categorizing things.
quote: “There are some problems with attention—that is, distractibility and sometimes a hyper focus, problems with categorization, the ability to organize things,” he explained. “People who hoard tend to live their lives visually and spatially instead of categorically, like the rest of us do.” One of his patients, Irene, would put an electricity bill on top of a pile; if she needed it again, she would remember where it was in space, rather than filing it away—mentally and physically—in a “bills” category.
http://www.psmag.com/navigation/health-and-behavior/hoarding-science-55196/ Based on these extracts... looks like some afflicted mutable placements (problems with decision making, difficulty focusing), especially Gemini and Virgo (organizing, categorizing things) as well as some Neptune/12H influence. Not sure about Sagittarius and the 9H... Maybe a weak Saturn? For the lack of structure and low capacity for organization.
Andy Warhol was apparently a hoarder, here's his chart: He has Mercury in the 12H in square with Jupiter; Venus and Mars in hard aspect to Neptune; Saturn in a mutable sign, retrograde; Moon and Uranus in the 9H.. (mutable house). Ruler of the 3H (mind) is Venus which conjuncts Neptune... Ruler of the 2H (posessions) is Mercury (the need for more - Jupiter, and the lack of organzation - 12H). What do you guys think?
