Wow!!! Earthquakes usually don't scare me, but this one did... It felt like it would never end... Just when you thought it was over it got stronger. My cell won't work, and I can't get a hold of my daughter.. She is at work, and their phone just rings and rings... Euhhh....

Yikes! Glad you're safe though. Hope you can reach her soon. I know California has earthquakes all the time, but this magnitude combined with exact 1 month left for an eclipse = not a coincidence? IP: Logged |

We have had 3 earthquakes from 8 to 930pm... Something like that.. There was a smaller quake around 8pm.. 3.9 something,, Then a bigger one the 5.1 not an after shock. Then an after shock around 20 mins ago.. Only a water break on the street is reported as of right now.

It was not a major earthquake. I am really really close to Los Angeles and nothing even fell over. A lot of people are exaggerating it.It's California. We're known for this ;p IP: Logged |

It depends how close you are to the center.. The closer you are, the more it's felt.. It was centered in LA Habra.. Fullerton has about 6 main water breaks on the street.. I'm about 10 mins from there.. It was pretty strong jolting. .. It seemed to stop then start again.. The 2nd phase made it seem longer.. I think they said this one was longer than usual. It was really close to the Whittier earthquake in 87. That one was a 5.9.. While the quake was happening it reminded me of the 87 one..
For me the rolling quakes feel worse, the jolly ones, is like one big jolt than it's over.. I didn't have any damage at all.. Most damage is restaurants/bars alcohol bottles falling off shelf. My day fighter is in downtown LA working, and she didn't even feel it or know about it. IP: Logged |

I think the scariest part of earthquakes is not knowing, and not having any warning what so ever.. Usually with quakes, you feel the jolt, by the time you say earth quake it's over.. When you have one of the longer ones (like this one) You stand there waiting for it to end, but you can't help think, is this the "dreaded big one" The "is this the big one" fear for a few seconds is what freaks everyone out... Business as usual here, just some slight swaying in LA. Also in regards to the post above youll know its the big one the second it starts, earthquakes dont slowly build up in intensity, if the earthquake starts and its pretty mild you can expect that it'll stay pretty mild until it stops. The reason this earthquake felt a long (it was in and of itself a bit lengthy) was because of sizable fore and after shocks. From what I've seen usually earthquake charts have Mars or Uranus touching the ASC/DSC or MC/IC axis, this chart doesn't have that, but the ASC and MC are square and their rules (Pluto and Sun) are also square. I'm really close to the center of this quake.,, I felt it very strongly.. I haven't felt a quake that strong in years and years.. When your in that moment, you can't help but to think, is this going to be the big one... So for me, it was stronger than others, The one earlier at 8 I didn't even feel that one at all.. I didn't even know about it.. The one on March 17th.. I didn't feel that one either.. I felt the after shock around 930, but that was was nothing... Didn't even phase me.

Wasn't the March one almost the same intensity on the Richter scale? I've been in a few 6.0s and those dont do much either, its 6.8+ you really gotta worry about IP: Logged |

I looked up the March one, that one was a 4.4 I didn't feel that one at all.. I was driving to work though. Which is probably why I didn't feel it. Weird,, California has had 3 quakes in March
Mar 9 6.8. In northern ca Mar 17 4.4 in Los Angeles Mar 27 5.1 la Habra Like they said it's been unusually earthquake quiet for 20 years... Maybe it's going to go back to having more frequent EQ.

Yeah, that big one they had was centered right where I grew up. I forget what year, it was when they had that battle of the bay World Series going on. I have the only surviving piece of an heirloom set of dishes my Grandmother left to me. Everything was knocked to pieces and/or off the foundation. Then there was the year they had the mudslides... Which sign rules earthquakes? I've always associated it with either Capricorn or Aries There was another smaller quake today, still made things shake and creak. This chart also has fixed signs on the axes, about the same degrees too. I'm thinking the repetition is due to the rulers of 3/4 of the fixed signs all in a t-square with each other, earthquakes strike me as a very Cardinal release of energy very sudden and powerful and then die out quickly.IP: Logged |

Normally, you will find them on the Full or New Moons, when the pull is greatest. This New Moon just happens to be on an afflicted Uranus point. Stupid Grand Cross formation during an Eclipse Tide set-up. Stupid, stupid Outers bonking heads and making the ground shake. (Earthquakes can be really exciting, though!) I have felt different ones, some are slidy-smooth, and some just grab aholt of your shoulder and jerk you around like an old caboose... IP: Logged |

I live in Seattle now, but I remember that one in '87 CLEARLY, I was about 5 or 6 I think? Anyway, I remember my mom pulling my right arm out of it's socket pulling me under the table watching all of her wine & champagne glasses being broken and the oven and cabinets swinging open..scary stuff man..I was in the 92 one as well, the Landers quake that was a pretty big one. Oh and the Northrigde quake. A lot of my friends were affected by that one as I was being bused out to the valley (Granada Hills)for school. I was off for the entire week I think.. IP: Logged |

Well yea, I'm thinking Cali is due for a good shaker, it's been pretty calm down there for years now..But I mean I'm not in a much better spot myself I live like 60 some odd miles from Mt. Rainier which is basically an inactive volcano that will become active again one day. The point is nobody is spared from natural disasters. I'd much rather deal with an earthquake though, at least if you're standing in an open field and the earth shakes you're good...unless of course the ground opens up..which I highly doubt will happen unless it was like a magnitude 12 or some craziness lol IP: Logged |
