What aspects, placements do you think contribute to this?

I'm curious about this too. I'm definitely a night owl but I'm trying to change that now.

I can be both but more so during Spring and Summer. I love the day time and the sunshine though. Just being able to bask in the beauty and visually being able to see everything is comforting. I think it's because I'm always so in my head and trying to swim through all the darkness to find the light..?? also I've noticed that a lot of my night owl friends were all born in the evening or later..especially the one's that suck at waking up early No idea on aspects though.

Night owl! My regular bed time is around 3 am even on weekdays. I cant help myself even if I go to bed earlier, like at 10pm, and wake up early in the morning, I am still tired through out the day. So I just end up taking a nap during the day anyways. All of my planets are at the lower hemisphere clustered through houses 1-3. Fire dominant.

If I could wake up around 10AM or 11AM every day that would be heaven LOL..I was born close to 12PM.

Interesting observation...wonder how everyone else who has responded feels about this....

Add:

If the sun rules the day and the moon the night...what is more heavily aspected and what signs are there in??? There might be a connection perhaps....

--That's a really interesting point, I've been wondering the same thing about nightowls. I was born at 2:10 am and can stay up really late at night. I'm trying to get into better habits bc I like getting up early in the morning so I can accomplish more in the day.

I was born at 08:00am and I am a night owl. I don't go to sleep before 03:00-04:00am. I can never sleep more than 7 hrs. Most of the time, I sleep appr. 5 hrs.

Ancient vedic texts say that saturn in the 12th can lead to this. I happen to have Saturn in the 12th and all the doormen in my building know me as a night owl. I'll often go for a walk around the neighborhood at 2 or 3 am just because I can't sleep. I live in a safe area so walking around at that time is very soothing for me.

I am most energized around 11pm and 1pm. I try to sleep before 1pm- around midnight - but sleep only starts to be felt a great deal later than I intended(even during weekdays).

It can be frustrating, especially when I have to wake up early and go to work the following day.

amelia28@ don^t know really.

I have Mars & Neptune in the 12th house ( whole sign ) May be Mars is keeping me awake ?

My Gemini moon is in the 6th house and afflicted ( opposing Mars & Neptune ) Might be giving me restlessness and affecting my sleeping patterns ?

Why I prefer night time because daytime disturbs me. Pluto is very strong in my chart. Could it be the reason ?

Once, I wrote a poem titled as " night is white "

Night owl, I suppose.

You know that already, amelia.

Aries 12H, empty except for SN (conj.ASC)
-> Mars afflicted

Moon > aspected than Sun.

Most planets are below the ASC/DSC line (fwiw)

I am not a morning person....listening to music in the morning helps me put myself in a good mood I have noticed though but it always takes me a long time to wake up and once I arrive at work I want to be in my office for a while alone ideally without seeing clients or anyone...bc mornings I dont like them. Around 11 or noon I start feeling good.

I was born close to noon but I guess odds are that this is irrelevant.

About your pluto comment.

Pluto rules my 12th. I am a night person but once I fall sleep I sleep well normally and do need my 8 hours ideally.

I think there is something to your mars theory..excess energy build up so you want to stay up indefinitely.

Moon is a receptive female energy and rules the night and mars is a male energy that is about action and is in the 12th opposing your moon so is like you don't want to give in to falling sleep.

My Husband's 12th house ruler is mars and his mars conjuncts uranus and square venus. He also has neptune in the 8th and and a missing pisces cusp. I think he associates falling sleep in some level with death and he fears death. When he thinks of death his body shivers and this is an ongoing reaction.

He tends to stay up late but on top of it his sleeping cycle varies and is not set so is not like he goes to sleep every day late but a certain time, it varies and then he needs to stay up all day so he try slowly to reset and start falling sleep at a more reasonable time...

So mars rules your 12th or in your 12th gives you too much "I want to do" energy so you just want to keep going and end up staying up..

Uranus gives this energy a further boost and also results in erratic sleeping habits.

And missing a pisces cusp in the last quadrant houses makes it hard to give in and let go to the dream world perhaps.

It would be cool if you post your chart to see if I can spot anything...

I force myself to sleep sooner but your cycle matches my true ideal...

I am a night owl. I was born at 2 a.m. I have mars and moon in the 12th, and Gemini ruling the 12th house cusp. I think I have a lot of restlessness and that probably keeps me up. I've always felt more comfortable at night for some reason, it just feels more serene I guess because it's typically a quiet time, just lying in your bed. I can sleep forever though if I have nothing going on, like literally past 8 hours sometimes. A lot of times once I'm asleep I don't even wake up to go to the bathroom or anything, I just keep on sleeping. I've read before about Mars in the 12th being a position of someone who requires a lot of sleep, and has an active dream life because they are fighting a lot of battles that they do not fight in waking life, according to some Vedic Astrology interpretations I've read. http://www.barbarapijan.com/bpa/Graha/Mangala/Mangala_sthana12.htm

In a way it sucks, but I have no trouble getting out of bed when I know I have to.

I feel proud to be considered one of the night owls! Astrological reasons I can only chalk it up to Scorpio Moon. There would be nothing else so telling, regardless of what time I was born.

I was born in the evening and I'm a night owl, definitely. I HATE waking up early, with a passion. I might even have insomnia.. I sleep at around 2-3 am usually. Unfortunately for me, I have to wake up at 6am for work :/

Sun in the 5th, Moon conj MC
Aries in the 11th, Mars conj sun

I get so depressed if I leave bed later than 8am that my day is usually ruined after that :-/ My favorite time is taking a stroll in forest between 530-6am, have a coffee by 730 and then get on with the rest. There's something extremely serene with very early mornings and I have been known to wake up around 4am and head out for a run.

I was born early as hell and don't need much sleep-mars conj asc??

I also like having most sex in the mornings. Actually, I like everything to be done in the mornings!

Don't know what other aspects to mention...I have sun (cancer) opposite moon (cap-5H).

I really really don't think any of these placements would make you a night owl except maybe moon conjunct mc. 5th house is a fire sign house, and house OF the sun, Mars conjunct sun definitely doesn't make you want to stay up late. If anything that is a morning bird's aspect. What other placements do you have? Water or Earth. Any scorpio?

I am definitely a night owl and I actually enjoy it. However, I know the real reason I am one. That's from working a swing shift for 17 years now.
