This is almost like a "Sweat Peas for Astrology" post.

My relevant placements.

Venus, Mars, Mercury in Virgo

Moon in Gemini
Moon Sextile Leo Sun
Moon trine Uranus (scorpio)

Venus square Neptune
Mercury conjunct Mars
Mars conjunct Asc (libra)
Mars/Merc conjunction square moon
Mars/Merc conjunction trine Jupiter
Pluto conjunct asc MAY play a role... I'm not sure

So, my mind is SO active it's enough to drive a person crazy. It just goes and goes and goes. The main things is that it analyzes, interprets, and digs. Ohhhhhhh it loves to dig. It loves to research on things that really interest it.
It's LITERALLY like a little terrier dog on crack. It spots something that it wants to know more of and digs until it's head is stuck in a hole and sees nothing else.
Small problems get stuck under a microscope and soon that is the only thing that is "in view". Going over each and every detail of it.
So, it means there is never a moments rest.

It's maddening. It might sound kind of cool on the surface, having investigative qualities. (I really wish I had become an investigator! So bad!!)

I can't meditate. The closest that I can come is listening to music. If I actually try to meditate, and do those things like listening to your breath, breathe deeply, etc.
I get all "antsy" and anxious that I'm just sitting there doing "nothing". I can't relax.

I keep a lot of it to myself. But I want to investigate everything, know everything, and really want to get into the minds of everyone.

So, does anyone else have this?
How the heck do you relax your mind?

I can sort of relate.

For me though, it's mainly in my body... I feel tense/anxious pretty much constantly. While my mind isn't always "analyzing," it's still not "at rest" and it's exhausting. I can't meditate well at all! I feel you.

I do have trouble relaxing. It's annoying. I feel like I'm always hyperaware of my surroundings and even when I deliberately try to relax and let go of the tension, I can't. The only things that can relax me are nicotine and alcohol. (Amazing, I know.)

Totally look forward to finding a solution to this... I'm tired of the pressure inside.

For me personally... I think the answer lies in suppressed emotions and feelings. I won't be able to explain it fully, in my mind it makes sense... And it may be different for you (and others) but, even when I think of a Mercurial Moon, the thing that comes to mind is: suppressed or rationalized emotions! And that's no bueno. Cause that means they're not felt and expressed like they're supposed to be. And that in turn creates a mental fixation and can also create tension/blockages in the body.

Not sure that makes sense to you at all, but just my 2 cents.

I feel similar but not the same.

I am Mercury ruled and it makes several strong aspects in my natal chart (7, I think). Once I get inside of my head, it's very difficult to find an "off" switch.

It doesn't happen every day, but probably 4 out of 7 days in a week I find it impossible to lay down and go to sleep because my mind keeps racing. It races all day, but some nights I can collapse and my body trumps my brain.

The thoughts jump around to stuff I don't even want to think about like how to get health insurance coverage so I can fix my kids' cavities type of stuff to wondering why that guy 17 years ago decided to cheat on me. It's SO annoying.

If I have an upcoming meeting or appointment somewhere, I will drive it in my mind several times before that day so I don't get lost and show up late. Sometimes I use the street view feature in Google maps to facilitate this obsession. Sometimes the thoughts are more philosophical and there is a lot more analysis. Thoughts about the possibility of God, aliens, ghosts, etc... it's endless.

I might spontaneously decide to research my family tree or take up Japanese. That's just how I roll.

Anyway, the not being able to turn "off" and sleep thing happened last night.

I tried to put on Netflix but got bored of looking at the screen around 4am. I laid in bed trying to sleep until 6am when hubby got up for work. I chatted with him until he left just after 7am.

I finally fell asleep around 7:45am & got up at 10:30am. I'm physically exhausted but my brain feels like it's still on overdrive. I'm full of ideas and little "missions" to conquer for the day.

Oh and I quit caffeine 9 months ago now & that was the only drug in my system. So it's not that. *lol*

I feel your pain.

Doux,
It does.

Everything goes under the microscope, emotions also. They are not expressed, they are repressed and scrutinized.

And I take something to help me sleep every night.
The only way I don't need to is if I've worked tons of extra hours at work.

I have the same problem. My chart config is different than yours, but the energy is sort of the same.

My chart ruler Moon is in Virgo 3rd house, conjunct Pluto. My Mercury is quintile it, and my Mars widely conj. Mercury in the 12th. I think Moon in 3rd acts a lot like a Gem. Moon, too.

I think anytime Pluto touches anything 3rd house/Mercury/Virgo/Gem related it can make the person's mind go into hyperdrive, and it has a hard time NOT thinking non-stop.
It's not helping me that right now transit Pluto is opp. my natal Mercury 0°. I simply can't stop over-analyzing and thinking things to death.

I have the same problem with music, too. It's hard for me to listen to music, actually. I have to be alone when I listen to music because it's almost a spiritual and emotional cleansing thing for me. I don't like to be around others when I listen to it because I "feel" the music too deeply. That's probably from having Sun-Venus-Mercury and Mars in the 12th, though. So, I do use music as a meditative thing. Being Cancer rising with Moon conj. Pluto and having Cancer Mars and Cancer Mercury in the 12th helps make music something that can provide me with a powerful emotional release.

Something I've found that helps is to do anything physical, anything at all. It's best if it's something that requires you to focus on hand-eye coordination. That forces your mind to actually focus on the movement and takes your mind off of other thoughts. Just anything that involves moving your body will help to get you out of your head. I live in my head way too much, and doing physical things that require me to focus on what my body is doing helps to get me out of my head and into the moment.

Oh wow. Me too. I often start crying. The same thing happens when I watch people dance (like professional ballet or ballroom type of stuff). Or ice skating. I cry.

Obvious solution: tranquilizer.

More relevant and helpful solutions:

I know you said meditation doesn't work for you but have you ever tried guided meditation? Basically some one reads you a paragraph of a place with events going on to where you are taken 'out of your mind' and into a place where you focus on just relaxing. I can send you some examples if you want: really easy to do

Calming tea also works. Right before bedtime in the case you struggle with thoughts preventing sleep. Lavender is amazing to help with relaxation.

Do you do any random, spontaneous activities? Doing these actually takes aways the need to analyze, probe, and perfect things, especially in a group setting.

Regular physical activity: not only does it help you relax and relieve stress, it definitely helps you to fall asleep better at night

Diaphragmic breathing is a good one too. You focus on every aspect of breathing which really slows the mind down.

I have more ideas too, I get where you are coming from. I used to be an insomniac because I could never stop thinking at night.

I feel ya.

I get emotional about the weirdest things, too. Bromance really gets to me. Bromance can make me cry everytime. I'm a woman, so I don't know why bromance tugs at my heartstrings so much, but it does.

I was re-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy recently and all the bromance scenes just choked me up. I watched the Band of Brothers series and I bawled like a baby.

Grrrr... I feel the same way! OMG I hate it sometimes, but it makes me feel really smart LOL

My placements:

Gemini rising with chart ruler in the 3rd house
Mercury in Virgo
Mercury conjunct Venus both square Pluto in the 6th house
Mercury and Venus sextile Moon
Mercury dominant
Air dominant
Virgo dominant

Holy heck, I don't ever feel like I could completely shut my mind. Even during long peaceful walks, I still talk to myself in my head. Like I can never shut it up. When I try meditating, I can never simply just do it. My mind's just everywhere. I feel like I have to dig deep in everything to get my answers. If something feels unanswered to me, I will actually spend a crap ton of time thinking about it until I find the answer. It gets annoying sometimes.

Seriously, Barbie and you are my online soul mates. I have yet to read a post by either one of you without being like "Yes! They totally get me!"

I have so much trouble "relaxing". My friends always tell me, "Slow down. Stop thinking so much. You're going to ruin this or ruin that just by overthinking it. You psych yourself out too much. Not everything needs to be analyzed; not everything has some deeper, subliminal meaning."

Music doesn't even relax me. I'll zone out but it's because I'm lost in thought. I have an insatiable hunger for knowledge.. I'm constantly curious about this and that so I'm always researching things, essentially allowing me to know so much about so many different things, but not everything about one thing because I'll get bored once I feel I've learned enough.

I want to know everything about everyone.. Every past struggle, every deep, dark secret.. Your flaws, your pet peeves, your dreams.. Everything that's beneath the surface. Not even for any specific reason, either. Just to know you and understand you better.

I've tried meditating and I can't get my brain to shut up. Once I finally am able to stop thinking about everything under the sun, I'll begin thinking about how I think too much and I need to stop in order to meditate. I never actually get it to shut up.

Those closest to me always say they thank God they don't have my mind because it would drive them nuts. I've honestly gotten used to it and wouldn't have it any other way. Life is never boring for me, and I never really need company, because I've got enough going on upstairs for the whole lot of us. I, too, keep a lot to myself because I feel like I'll overwhelm people if I shared everything with them. The few times I've even shared a little more than usual, I got weird looks from people.

Gemini moon in 1st
Taurus AC in the Mercurial decan
Mercury (in Aries in the 12th) conjunct Venus (Aries, 12th)
Merc opposite Jupiter in Libra in the 6th
Merc semi-square Saturn in Aquarius in the 11th

Gemini Moon
Virgo Venus + Virgo Jupiter
Venus square Neptune
Venus sextile Mercury
Venus in 3rd house, Virgo on cusp

Sounds familiar! I analyze. Think. Sort things into systems. Get obsessed with research and details. I always had a hard time trying to meditate because I'm always thinking. Or talking. Sometimes both.

I relax through emotions. I get mood swings but I actually enjoy them. Sometimes I need a strong emotion to shake me up. I almost enjoy an emotional overload--unless it's negative (well no one likes an overload of negative emotions). My love for expressive art stems from this.

I have a suspicion it happens due to those:
Moon opp Mars
Moon opp Uranus
Moon trine Venus
Venus conj Jupiter
Moon trine Jupiter

Another way for me to relax is to change direction of thinking or the topic which I'm obsessing over. It feels refreshing. Just toss everything aside and start on something new. Close the documents. Shut down internet pages. Delete old stuff. Make an U-turn. Here, a new beautiful beginning is waiting.
Mercury conj Uranus
Venus sextile Uranus
Jupiter sextile Uranus

Running (or walking rather fast) also helps. That's a classic Mars in Sagittarius thing, I think. I've been super excited about something today and I walked 3 miles without even realizing it while I was going over that thing in my mind. I was like, hmm where's my ride... oops I don't need a ride anymore! Workout does nothing for me. It's all about movement.

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas.
It's comforting to know that I'm not alone. Some people might look at it as it's really not a big deal or tormenting, but it really is. Some might say, "Don't make a big deal of it." To which I say, "Well I'd love to not make a big deal out of it, which is the problem, and the point of this."

I'm glad to see ideas and others who have this. It really made me think that probably, too much of ANY planet is probably a bad thing, for somebody. Either others or the native.

Part of my problem may simply be work. I've been putting in a LOT of hours! Even when I'm on LL, I'm at work sometimes. I know it sounds funny but it's challenging work. Very physical some days, frustrating, mentally challenging. There's a lot of problem solving (technical) and trying to fix things that can't actually be seen, only the results. (Internal pressure, velocity, flow, etc etc)
I don't mind it to be honest. Some how, some way... even not minding it and not feeling like I need to call in to have a day off or anything. IDK, it's weird how I'm okay with it, yet, some little devil sneaks in there and stresses me without me realizing it. I still don't understand it exactly.

Anyway, I'm a little clouded today and as I type this I think my brain decided to turn off. I'm out of words... (That's bad for a Gemini anything! LOL)

Idk if anyones mentioned this yet, but EXERCISE! Or doing any sort of physical work, because when you are exercising and working there's too much blood moving around to the rest of your body, and your mind is more focused on the physical task that it is unable to keep racing around thinking about other things.

Other than just regular exercise, physical tasks that involve some sort of mental or handy work can be even better. Grading papers, folding clothes, cleaning, things like knitting that keep your hands busy become meditative to me, my mind is kept busy enough by the focus I have to keep on the task that I feel like I can finally relax from the overload it normally endures, and on a plus side if you are doing something productive like cleaning, you get to feel the satisfaction from a clean house

Also a transdermal magnesium supplement might help some, something like magnesium "oil" which is actually a supersaturated solution of magnesium chloride. Magnesium acts as sort of an inhibitory neurotransmitter for NMDA excititory receptors in the brain. I spray it on my body before I go to sleep and I start to feel my mind become more relaxed, since I started using it the quality of my sleep has gotten much better any my dreams more intense, 1 hour of sleep starts to feel more like 3 when I use magnesium. Magnesium is better absorbed through the skin than through the digestive system (where too much may give you diarrhea taken orally) which is why I recommend the "oil".

Virgo moon
Mars in 3rd in Aries
Uranus conj ascendant

When I make jewelry, the hubby calls it "therapy time"... he must see something on my face that says I am relaxed.

Try a T-square involving Moon in 3rd,Mercury in 9th and Mars in 6th. Sometimes I swear they "switch" and stuff with me.

I can feel myself thinking like a Mercury in 6th,feeling like a Moon in 9th and driving like a Mars in 3rd.

It's even worse now that Uranus and Pluto aspects the T-square. Uranus-especially- forms a kite by adding the 12th house into the mix.

So far, i stay up late at night and read a lot.The other thing I do is take sporadic trips to anywhere. Try and get out of my head.

I've been thinking about your dilemma, because my thoughts have swam around and 'round too.
Mercury in Virgo, Gemini on 12th house cusp. I would suggest interaction with someone with Sagittarius energy. My brother is a Sag and Sag Mercury. Very good friends with Sages. They show me how to zoom my perspective, in and out, near and far. They speak and Know in such broad strokes, it blows my mind. At first you'll be like slow down, talk slower, how did you get There?! My advise, just listen.
By example, you'll learn how to use this type of energy yourself. So learning and thinking this different view, will put your mind at ease. At least that is what has worked for me. I hope this helps.

It would have to be a very early Sag though. I like Sag quite a bit but if it's mid to late they square all my Virgo.

I think I have the answer!
I need to draw or write. I need to do something creative even though I suck at writing and drawing!

Or something along those lines.
Something that "frees" me.

It's like there's all this stuff coming in and not much going out. A lot being pulled in to be interpreted and an analyzed but it never comes out. I don't express my analysis or things of that nature.

Things need to come out, even if I wrote what I've analyzed out on paper, like a journal.
I need to vent out. It becomes like a pressure cooker in my head.

Which you've all said but today it just hit me like ah-ha!

Even when I'm watching television (which I don't like to do TOO much - it gets to be overwhelming)

Barbie laughs at me because she can see my eyes scanning every inch of the screen, absorbing every detail that I can possibly gather. lol

I'm just like a vacuum. I take in EVERYTHING in my surrounding and start breaking it down in my head.
