I'd like to pose this question because we had a really interesting discussion in philosophy class today. I want to know everybody's opinion on this.

Would philosophers be more Sagittarius because they like to think of the bigger questions? Or would they be more Virgo because they like to criticize and question everything?

I'm my opinion Sag 's are more philosophical. They tend to see the bigger picture and the search for truth. Virgo is more about organizing data and finding inconsistencies in it.

all the famous philosophers are taurus ...
And virgos are never really philosophical. They like details, not big pictures

Philosophers like to "find truth" and they need to do a lot of critcizing and picking on the little details to find it. Like Virgos hate not knowing answers and so, they keep picking at questions even though they never will truly find the definite answer. After all, philosophers not only make up theories, but they also look at the little holes in other people's theories and question them whether they are true or not.

I have never met in my life a philosopher sag, they're always party animals, not really introspective.

I'm a Philosophy major. Hegel and Locke, two of the greats, were Virgos Suns conjunct Mercury. Heidegger has his Libra Sun conjunct his Virgo MC. Kant, Kierkegaard, and Hume were Taureans. I can't recall a Sag philosopher. Even the really bright, critical thinkers in my class are Virgos, LOL.

I agree. I've yet to meet a Sag that lives up to it's philosopher classification. I do have Virgo friends that come to mind with their interest in philosophy but I do note their tendency to miss the big picture

It depends on the area of philosophy...

Virgos seems to be very good at political philosophy and ethics... and sometimes philosophy of science/neuroscience.
Sagittarius is interested in areas like metaphysics, jurisprudence, epistemology.
Pisces (the other side of Jupiter) is actually very good at abstract mathematics and also very good at logic in philosophy (in my experience).

But I think Sagittarius are are the most likely to go against the grain of the current trend of analytical philosophy - and study philosophy in the continental tradition.

@Odette: Good point... Analytic philosophy is most certainly the terrain of Virgo. Continental philosophy... Wait let me look up Merleau-Ponty, Lacan, Derrida, and the like!

I have seen Sagittarius folk into philosophy of religion, actually.

Agree! I'm a Pisces Mercury... I like Moral philosophy but really dislike all this crazy epistemological crap. I always find myself asking... Does it really f*cking matter? I'll take ontology anyday. At least it gives me something I can work with.

So we have Merleau-Ponty Pisces Sun and Mercury (Woot Woot)... Lacan a Sun Aries, Pisces Mercury. I find that man so confusing. It's unreal. Derrida Cancer Sun and Mercury conjunct exact. Foucault Sun Libra, Mercury Scorpio... Interesting how all these continental philosophers have water Mercury.

But Marx is also a Taurus.

Philosophy degree and Sag here...

definitely not a party animal. I think it depends on the rest of the chart, I don't fit the "player" stereotype either.

Just because there isnt a famous sag philosopher, doesnt have to mean they arent philosophical... !

I have known a lot of sags and they are quiet philosophical in a way... maybe they seem like they are party animal, but there is also a whole other side to them between all the parties, where they really seem to have their own "religion" or "mantra" that they live after, and if you ask them out about it, you get some really interesting answers like they have though about it all...

I want to give you all a lesson with sags: Find a sag you know from real life and ask them about what their personal philosophy/religion/mantra is. You find that what they consider their "meaning of life" is really philosophical, even though they might call it a religion or something like that:P

Yes, they are. But then, somewhere in the middle of the party, they start discussing the universe, world hunger, religion etc. Or, you're going on a date with them and then they stop flirting to ask you if you believe in afterlife. Gets me every time

Exactly! What's the point of a party otherwise?

That's sexy lol idk it's bc my Sag descendant thinking right here. Also, most of the Sags I've met have Cap mercury, and I think this plays a part in it, too. So I never really met a sag that discussed that type of stuff with me. I have yet to meet a Sag with sag mercury.

Neither, I think they come in all signs. Einstein was a scientist, but he said some of the most philosophical things... Science, Religion and Philosophy goes hand in hand, some people wonder about these things on a continual thought stream. Anyone with a profound mind will see things in a philosophical way sooner or later. I think aspects tell more, but that's just me.
