I'm currently looking for an astro book to read. My current target is -

Astrology, Karma & Transformation: The Inner Dimensions of the Birth Chart

Any opinions on it?

I'm a fairly earthy guy so I can't take too much of an esoteric writing style even in astrology. Liz Greene's writing style didn't work too well for me but I'm gonna give her another shot soon.

anything by Stephen Arroyo is good.

My favorite Karmic Astrologer is Martin Schullman. If you get a chance check him out.

I second Secrets From a Stargazers Notebook aka The Purple Book. While not the first book on astrology I read, it was the first one that made everything "click" for me.

That's one of the few books I've read and I found it amazing. I would recommend it.

As to the writing style, it's not basic but flows quite well. There's a lot of info but as he gives tangible examples I think your earth could keep interested. I wasn't in a focused frame of mind when I got it so I skipped to the planetary outer aspects which was substantial enough and then flipped back/forward when I was in the mood to the theory and more intense parts. It won't tell you things you already know and it also really situates the knowledge in a useful context
