Doesn't it make sense for the 12th house to be associated with art?Venus, the ruler of Taurus, reminds me of craft: Home design, fashion, cooking, while Neptune in combination with Jupiter would probably bestow one with a gift for fine art... Zdzislaw Beksinski, the painter of dreams and nightmares: A Pisces (TOB unknown). Vincent van Gogh: Venus, Mars, Neptune and MC in Pisces. Venus and Mars square Jupiter. Salvador Dali: MC in Pisces, Neptune in the 12th house. IP: Logged |

I like your observations.I think art usually reflects the whole chart, but water signs/planets/houses tend to be more driven to create art, to begin with. Art is usually an emotional expression, after all. Jupiter signs also tell a lot. Jupiter in Cancer artists are exceptionally gifted with color and conveying a rich inner life. Jupiter in Virgo tends to be especially meticulous (using many tiny strokes to cover a small area), sensual, and earthy. For example: Albrecht Dürer: Gustav Klimt: MC Escher (Virgo-Libra Cusp): Peter Paul Rubens: I hope those links don't break. IP: Logged |

I have 12th stellium and I only wish my abilities matched my imagination. But that said, art reaches far and wide! I love forensic facial reconstruction for example. It's fascinating to me. It's kind of a mix of science, art, and forensics. Awesome. IP: Logged |

My own Jupiter sign, Aries, tends to manifest as a sense of fun, innovation, outright strangeness.Salvador Dali: Jean Paul Gaultier: Fernand Léger: IP: Logged |

That kinda matches my theory that it's a Jupiter thing. Your Jupiter is in the 8th, and you are looking at...um, death art, to put it politely.

True!! And it trines my mercury/mars conjunction I my 12th. So there's a connection death to art. LOL IP: Logged |

Sorry if I'm pushing this issue too hard; I'm almost done.I'm having trouble finding any visual artists with Jupiter in Capricorn. There are plenty of amazing authors, musicians, actors...as well as brutal dictators and serial killers...but no visual artists that I can find! And it's funny because my Jupiter in Capricorn son draws well, but he refuses to draw anymore. I guess this sign doesn't piddle around with crayon boxes, they have more important things to do! LOL But in honor of Jupiter in Capricorn, a tune from one of its natives: Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Meant to be played loud Beethoven was going deaf, after all. And Cap Jupiter people, they say stuff like this: hehehehe IP: Logged |

I reluctantly like that picture. I'm squeamish about the blood, but the artistry is Well that reminds me of Jack Kevorkian who also painted with blood. And sometimes he just used oil paints. His images are grotesque: Mars conjunct Uranus in Aries; Jupiter Aries trine Leo Neptune. Birth time unknown. IP: Logged |

Yeah you don't want in my head. When I was a kid I used to draw the same demonic guy over and over. He had a single horn on one side of his head. Hmmm..IP: Logged |

I advise artists to look to their Moon and Venus to learn about their creative potential. Your Moon sign, house, and aspects represent your emotional depth and imagination. And your Venus sign, house, and aspects represent your particular style and tastes as an artist.BUT, if you have planets in the 12th, this can also make a difference. I think 12th House planets can be channeled into your artistic life. In fact, they need to be. Planets in the 12th aren't fully made for this world. They need to find another world to be expressed in and sublimating them into art is a great way to strengthen them and bring them into the light. ------------------ Check out My Astrology Blog: http://astroarena12.blogspot.com IP: Logged |

I've sun and venus in taurus and love art. But I am even suprised people associate art with taurus because I typically consider that a craft part of the art. Although I recall reading somewhere that there's a philosophical side to taurus which would bring in the fine art potential. Even so, I do think taurus is very materials based, a real revelling in that. Maybe 12th house would be that more an intuitive musical type of approach. I find it very hard to let go and give into that. Jupiter in cancer and so happy this might give colour well. I love colour and could never understand why am associated with muddy earthy taurus. But in the 8th house and am not interested in death like imagery. Thinking about it though I do like an 8th house atmosphere. As in Walter sickert paintings (generally not colourful but apart from that)

Ha! And I liked the first answer you gave...very illustrative of the mechanics of your mind. I could almost follow the pathway and see how, if I had those placements, it would be natural to think as you do. IP: Logged |

I meant to quit harping on this but just to illustrate (pun intended) my point: Jupiter Cancer artists include... Frida Kahlo Piet Mondrian, originator of color-blocking: Paul Gauguin: IP: Logged |

DF, very interesting. Science/the body (Virgo), art (Venus 12H), forensics (Mercury/Mars 12H)? IP: Logged |

Yep! All 12th. Taurus 8th, with ruler Venus in 12th. There's all kinds of ways to slice it up. Jupiter in 8th in trine to mercury/mars. Perhaps bringing that flavor with it but at least expanding what's already there. That's how I see it. IP: Logged |

whaaat, great thread, thank you!
Most of your examples are about the sign Pisces and planets than the 12H specifically. But, I've found more artists and musicians born in Pisces than Leo, which is often associated with creativity. This is about music but falls under the umbrella of art. Liz Greene in her Neptune book has a long list of composers born with Neptune in major aspect to the Sun, Moon, or Saturn. IP: Logged |
