Saturn is a misunderstood planet. It is a feared planet. It should be, in some instances, because Saturn can do a number on one’s self esteem. This can occur if Saturn is conjunct one’s Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury or Venus. However, conversely, Saturn can give staying power when placed in positive configurations. Saturn can help you to finish that degree, climb the corporate ladder of success or, simply, stay in a marriage which has become routine( and they all do). Saturn gives self discipline in positive doses. Saturn gives self doubt and self flagellation, in negative doses. Certain aspects are positive doses. Other aspects are negative doses.Hence, Saturn is a mixed bag.

To make it practical. Think of wanting to eat a whole, chocolate cheesecake. Jupiter will tell you to enjoy yourself. Saturn will tell you that you will feel sick later and your cute, new dress won’t be able to be zipped. Hence, Saturn comes through for us when we need discipline.

Jupiter will tell you to gamble. Saturn will tell you to save.

Jupiter will tell you to have a fling with that cute guy. Saturn will tell you that you have a loyal boyfriend at home.

I hope this gives a sense of Saturn in both it’s positive and negative applications. Now, we will move onto the Houses.

Saturn in the Houses
1st House
Saturn in the 1st House is a strong Saturn. Depending on aspects, one may be very disciplined or one may have low self esteem. Saturn in trine and sextile confers discipline. Saturn in square, conjunction and opposition may result in lack of confidence and self esteem.

2nd House

This is mine. This has not made for a lack of financial resources but, instead, a fear of losing them. I did not understand how I had Saturn in the 2nd House because I have never suffered from a lack of material resources. Some people say that Saturn in the 2nd House is a lack of self esteem. I have pondered this long and hard and I do not subscribe to it. I think it is taking the natural order of the Zodiac and adding elements that are not there. I think it is a stretch too far. I think the 2nd House is material resources and material resources, only.Although, I have never been without material resources, I do have a deep fear of this, which must explain my Saturn in the 2nd House.

3rd House

This Saturn placement may engender a fear of self expression. That is what I have seen in doing charts. The native may feel very shy about expressing his opinions. He may hold back. He may hem and haw. When he does express himself, he may feel as if it has the fear of jumping from a high diving board.

4th house
This Saturn placement seems to indicate a cold, early home. The mother may, particularly, be the parent with whom one had a cold, distant and/or critical relationship.

5th House

This seems like one of the hardest for me. This is due to the fact that creativity was always my escape from a painful home. This native may feel very shy in expressing his creative and fun loving side. Expressing affection may be hard for him, as well.

6th House

This native may have chronic health issues. I have seen this in charts of people with allergies, migraine headaches or other chronic health issues. Conversely, this placement may make for a person who feels insecure in being able to provide services of a helping nature to others.

7th House

This is another hard Saturn aspect, although I wonder if labeling placements as hard is subjective. It may be. This Saturn placement may make marriage hard. It may show a delay in getting married, as well.

8th House

I think this is a harder Saturn placement. This native may find it very painful to face her dark side. This may be seen in a person who is “fake chirpy”. We all have a dark side. Accepting it is the only way to find the light, so jump in and embrace the dark. It will not be as scary as you think. This statement could embody Jung in Chinese fortune cookie.

9th House

This native may find it hard to find God. The 9th House is the House of the spiritual. It is, also, the House of Higher education. I have seen natives will this placement denied college in cases in which they deeply desired a college education.

10th House

These natives seem to have delays in career. They may, also, have had a difficult relationship with their fathers.

11th House

Someone close to me with this placement sparked my interest in writing this article. Groups are very hard for him. He feels left out. He feels afraid that groups will gang up on him and humiliate him. Saturn in the 11th can be someone who finds groups to be very scary. n.

12th House

A 12th House planet is, always, the hardest, in my opinion. The planet must be ten degrees away from the Ascendent to be considered 12th House. However, if it is a true 12th House planet, it will be a challenge throughout life.

Saturn in the 12th seems to be the position of the child pressing his nose against the window pane while other children are playing in a group outside. This sense of loneliness and not feeling a part of the group seems to remain throughout life.

I need to agree with you in this one. I have this too, and I'm not a poor person, I have enough to live a decent life! But the fear of losing it all.... It has no way to get out from me!! I think my grandma had this too, she had a lot of money but she always said she didn't had enough money to buy things for her!!

Ami, do you think 10H Saturn could show death of the father?
Or could a square to Pluto indicate this?
I have a friend with 10H Saturn in Aquarius and her father died when she was a child.

I have this placement... Embracing the dark seems interesting. I've always been a careful child, but during my freshman year of high school I started experimenting with my sexuality. I never fully did anything though.. So I guess this could be Saturn holding me back in that aspect? Only by 19, 2 years after graduating high school, did I finally become more confident in myself and my sexuality to fully confront my fears of being naked... sexually and emotionally with someone. I also confronted my fears of my breaking up with my first love as well. I'm wondering if I have already learned the lessons of saturn in the 8th house?

Hi joandreamer!!

About the Saturn's lessons, I think when we arrive at the First Saturn Return we can really say that you learned about the lessons, or not that you aren't learning, but I think before the age of 28th, you have a lot of lessosn to learn (they remind me of tho0se books with a lot of chapters at high schoool). But please, don't take as the only truth... I'm 27 now and I'm still learning about my 2nd house Saturn

Ahhhh Saturn in 12H!!

YUP!! Super critical and tough on myself!!!

That lonely feeling.. YES YES YES! And this feeling makes me only wanna rely on myself. I feel a great responsibility to look after myself! And thus becoming hypercritical of myself...

It's an endless cycle... :S

Midnight

Saturn in the 10th could show various forms of struggles/pains with the father.

I am not sure about the square to Pluto in this case.

Is this the same person?

Yes Dani

I could not really relate to Saturn in the 2nd and did not know what to make of it but I think it is this!

I have saturn R in the 5th. I do not have any problems expressing my creativity or affection however I do have problems with self confidence in regards to my appearance. Also, I find this plays out as I try to mix pleasure in with my work (ex: working band nights in a local pub when I was younger - I got to enjoy the music and crowds but also make money). I find saturn in my 5th also makes me prone to passing up a lot of social functions.

I'm a bit nervous for whats to come Thanks for giving me your input though. I didn't know about Saturn returns... you're right, I still do have much to learn lol Thank you and I hope Saturn will be nice to you

Joan, I apologize for being forward or asking an uncomfortable question but I am curious if saturn in the 8th had any bearing on your dads health? I've been reading that this placement is a sign of early loss of the Father and / or the father being very frugal.

Yes, I was talking about a Saturn-Pluto square.
I know they are "generational" planets, but since Saturn also co-rules her 10H and Sun, I thought maybe it could be possible.

Don't worry, it's not an uncomfortable question . I actually did lose my father at an early age. He passed away when I was only 5 years old. It was the worst experience of my life. The loss of him still affects me today. I'm terrified to lose the ones I love because of what happened to him.

i have saturn in the 6th, R.
i have been very healthy my whole life, no health issues. Haven't even been to a doctor in over 15 years.
And I feel very confident in my ability to provide care or 'services' to others, especially my family.

maybe it's because i have pluto, jupiter and uranus in the 6th as well.

My boyfriends son (age 23) has saturn in the 8th so this has me a little freaked out. I'm hoping it plays out a different way. I have chiron in the 4th which I think has something to do with the loss of the mother - I lost my mom unexpectedly at age 18 and, like you, it's affected me to this day - I always worry about my loved ones. For what it's worth, you're not alone - I totally understand how you feel.

I think my experience with my natal Saturn in the 11th house is that I do get uncomfortable in groups only initially. It takes me a while to adjust, but when I do get comfortable, I become more of a leader in a class group setting or the center of attention in a social group setting.

I'll send prayers your way that it works out differently Does he have any health problems that you know of? My father was severely anemic but never took care of himself. His heart wound up stopping because there wasn't enough healthy blood pumping. If your boyfriend has any problems, there is a way to stop things so his health doesn't get worse.. if there is something wrong. Do they have a tough relationship now? Is it hard for them to get along? Maybe it could be that instead of something health related. Try not to stress yourself out too much over it though. Sometimes not everything happens the way astrology says it should. --Hugs--

We've been together for 7 years - he is in good health other than being a smoker. I pray that this plays out as his dad being frugal (which he is, lol). Sending hugs back to you!

What is Pluto doing. Is is in the 11th, too, or making good aspects with Saturn?

What aspects does saturn make, Ann? Do you have a strong Leo influence, too?

In the 7H, conjunct NN.
NN also squares her Saturn.
