So I was taking a look at my birth chart and found this:

"The Sun represents vitality, individuality, will-power and creative energy and honours. For a woman, it also represents her father, and later her husband."

The bolded sentence stood out to me the most. I don't understand how our sun sign would represent our father or husband. Can anyone please explain why it would?

The Sun always represents the father and how an individual experienced that masculine influence in their life.

By looking at the Sun we can determine if a person had a good or bad father.. As for the husband bit.. I"m not so sure about that. But it for sure represents the Father, like the Moon represents the Mother.

I find it funny that my father happens to be the same sun sign as I am Unfortunately, he died when I was at a rather young age, so I'm not too sure if it all plays out for me.

I do agree with the mother representing the moon though. I've had more experience analyzing my own Moon and other's, but never did much research on the Sun and father. I wouldn't know how to start either.

Do you mean his Sun is in your 7th house? And what does that mean to you -- him being in your 7th?

Assuming that the sun in a woman's chart represents her father and perhaps their relationship, my sun (my relationship with him), is in my 7th house.

This doesn't surprise me very much because we have always been super close and I seem to understand him more than anyone else, especially as his medical issues have taken hold. We are definitely partners in crime! My 7th house is in Taurus and funnily enough, he is a Taurus sun!

That's such a lucky placement, Ikja! I think it's so cute you and your father are that close and are like partners in crime! With your father's sun being in your 7th House, I would assume you're looking for a romantic relationship with someone who is like your father in a way. Not to a T, but shares the same values and has the same morals. Someone who can also be your partner in crime and give you that same comfort.

I honestly wouldn't know where to start with my father. He's a Capricorn sun, just like me. So in my chart, he's in the 5th and 6th house. It may take a while for me to understand his role in these houses lol

Well, athenegoddess said the DSC + ruler can describe the significant other. I've heard this from another LLer as well. My DSC and Venus are the same though. They're both in Aquarius and the ruler of my DSC is in Uranus. Plus, with Venus in the 7th House, I think it's pretty obvious what my husband will be like

Definitely looking for someone like my dad. However, I have been majorly disappointed to date. My dad allows me to be free - think freely (the Sun is in Gemini) but the house is Taurus. So, he is also much more down to earth and less scattered than me. Always treats me like an equal and really does spoil me lol. I can't lie, love my dad. There will never be another him - that makes me sad!!!!

Do you have a really strong work ethic? Is he quite hardworking and he taught you those principles? Or perhaps, he taught you how to organise your time/look after yourself in a practical way?

I was under the impression that Saturn held significance as a person's father, perhaps more so or as equal an indicator as the Sun, so you might have to look at both and see which one has the better"fit". If the Moon is the mother and traditionally associated w/ the 4th house, and the 7th from the 4th is the 10th house (related to Saturn), then Saturn could act as a significator for the father.

I think it was KRS Channel that said it. If I remember.
Anyway, I'm not sure that we can really focus on one thing anyway.
I've made my way around the zodiac in one way or another. LOL

See?
That's the thing. Depending on the source, some say Saturn, some sun.
Same with husband. Some Jupiter, or mars, or dsc, or rulers.
I'm not sure anyone knows.

My dad was a Palestinian immigrant and came here with nothing, but he really made a name for himself. He started his own business and was quite well off. I do admire his work ethic for sure. I started my own business at 18, so I guess I take after him there, Ikja

PegasusinFlight, I've heard about Saturn representing the father! My Saturn is in the 8th house which can either come about as an early death or problems within child / father relationships. Well, my father died when I was 5, so I never really had much of a relationship with him.

People do say we have the same sense of humor, same temper, same heart, and same infidelity Just kidding about that last part!!! But yeah. I don't really know much of what to say about my father. He did spoil me as much as he could when I was younger, but I don't remember much about him, not even his voice. I only have 3 memories of him that I keep close to my heart.

I don't get it either.

In any case I can't imagine how it applies to my dad.

Just out of curiosity does your source also say that "for a man, it also represents her mother, and later his wife"? ("It" doesn't have to be the sun, it can be any placement, I'm just curious about the husband/daddy parallel and wonder if a similar parallel is there for the man. 'Course maybe it would seem more off putting for a woman to read that a man subconsciously wants to "marry his mother" or closest he can find than the other way around. Though in actuality I'm more thinking it would somehow be connected to the traditions we've formed, like the father giving away his daughter to a groom and her surname is then changed to his whereas the mother doesn't give away the groom to woman with a name change and that may have shaped this astrology teacher's mind somehow, assuming he doesn't say the same about men in regards to mother/wife.)

Your father is Saturn, the moon your mother and the Sun is your identity.

I heard Saturn represented your grandparents and in-laws.

But the Sun represents where those masculine energies come from. It doesn't have to be your "father" but its usually anything or anyone that gives you a sense of self-esteem and productive energy. The whole "husband" thing may be a metaphor for what a woman relates her self the most with, like a husband..

^^

That makes sense to me!

In my dreams Giles is often my father (when he shows up) to the point that once I was talking to Dad at school in a dream when Giles showed up and I had to leave Dad to go with Giles...because Giles was my father. And my Libra on the Scorpio cusp sun could represent him, or at least aspects of his character (which I don't want to derail this thread with a detailed analysis on).

I think the Sun represents the father. The Moon represents the mother.

I personally don't see the point of making the core of your identity i.e. the Sun, your Father. Saturn, the great teaches teaches lessons and gives discipline.

Being more lenient using day and night ruler-ships Saturn lord of the night would signify the father and grand fathers. I wouldn't extent it to in-laws your chart is first and foremost about you.Sun can be the day ruler.

The Sun : "As the source of being and illumination the Sun represents your day world, consciousness, and psychological purpose. Wherever the other planets may be placed in the horoscope, the Sun symbolizes your essential self and who you are struggling to become."
As Lord of the Day the Sun is masculine and can represent the father and, in a woman's horoscope, the partner and the kind of men to whom she is attracted.
http://www.skyscript.co.uk/sun1.html

To Add the Sun is never associated with being the father in most mythology i.e. Helios, Apollo, Sol etc aren't placed under the great/all encompassing father category. If anything most of the deities in those mythology represent mental illumination and knowing thy self.
