Are you good at public speaking??

If so, which aspects would you thank for this?

And on the other hand, if you are not good at public speaking, which aspects would you blame this on?

I myself am a horrific public speaker. My body involuntarily goes numb, and my mind blank....and jeez who knows what comes out of my mouth after that. It its truly a terrible feeling. I am tempted to point the finger at my 12th house Mercury in Pisces...retrograde lol.

I really do hope to conquer this one day. if any of you have any success stories of turning the tables, please let me know !!

Yes and no.

Spontaneously, yes, but not so much formally. I have a 3H Libra stellium (including sun) which includes mercury, and I'm also on the scorpio cusp so that makes me articulate. My sextile 5H Sag stellium generally makes me unafraid to speak up (though I do practice impulse control when I think it's needed) and includes my moon and Mars (and also Uranus) but at the same time I don't like to be constrained to time tables, schedules, and such. I have before but it's not something I normally seek out.

I LOVE speaking in public.
I do feel nervous slightly before, especially if I'm about to speak of a subject I have no knowledge of.
But the feeling of being listened to and being the center of attention of everyone? This is GLORIOUS, and I'll always end up knowing what to say.
I do tend to stutter or mingle my words, because my mind is often working faster than my mouth and is two steps ahead, but I take a break and a deep breath, make a contrite smile and apologize before resuming x)
Blame that drama fifth house venus in leo

Funny thing is, I was very shy before and wondered what would people think of me, would they laugh at me or anything.
And then, I realized that it just made everything worst. Worrying made me even more nervous and I was stumbling even more so.
Then I thought to myself, why do you care what pure strangers will think of you? you don't care how your friends sees you, and even more! you have an extraordinary way of explaining things to your friends and they all listens intently.
Stress made me more nervous and even less capable in front of an unknown audience. The first few times, I only focused and looked at my friends. It made me forget to whom I was truly speaking to and it made me better.
Then, because I didn't always have friends in my class, I focused on friendly figures, or the teacher, who's always looking at you or at least listening. You feel listened and not judge, it also helps.
Until I could look at anyone without feeling nervous or stressed out.

That's how I did it, but I'm fundamentally someone who bask in other's attention, so I already had this step of loving the spotlight done for me.

I know someone with a retrograde Capricorn Mercury in the 6th house who used to be very bad at public speaking. Very quiet, very reserved. Then when tPluto was conjunct his sun in Capricorn, he started turning all of his energy into public speaking. Joined a debate team, was ranked #1 and was also the captain, which culminated in him winning a national tournament.

The aspects to his Mercury include a conjunction to Jupiter (4 degrees), a conjunction to Neptune (7 degrees) and an exact quintile to Saturn.

Similary, I used to be a very quiet speaker. I decided to start practicing when tSaturn was conjunct my sun (ruler of the 3rd house). I was given several honorary awards over the course of two years when I joined a public speaking team. When tPluto aspected my ASC, I also noticed that my voice became much more powerful, much louder, and drew more attention. I use public speaking as an advantage in work, and I've received a lot of recognition and opportunities that I would not have gotten if I did not have the skill.

My Mercury is in Scorpio, exact conjunct Vertex, conjunct Pluto (5 degrees), sesqui-quadrate Saturn (1 degree), in the 5th house.

Perhaps, with retrograde Mercury in the 12th house, your thoughts are very private or very introverted and so you are unaccustomed to sharing them aloud. What aspects does your Mercury make?

I'm a good public speaker. It might be my 3rd ruler being Sun in the 11th, or Mercury/Uranus aspect.
I stopped being nervous for a few reasons - but primarily because I realised people are more interested in what I am saying, than they are in *my* person... and I like imparting interesting information and knowledge (Gemini AC).

A lot of people seem to be nervous because they feel judged - as though others are examining them.
The thing is ... if *I* am more interesting than my presentation (or speech) - that would mean I didn't -do- enough to make it interesting for people. So I feel like, this is up to me!
Normally, people should be judging the content, not -my person.

MoonBunny - I also have Pisces Mercury - in the 10th. I know this is a shy and often quiet placement. But Pisces has a love of people and it is a giving sign.
It's a lot better if you are speaking publically on a topic you believe -matters- and that is helpful and useful to other people.

^ But you can kind of learn to see anything in this light.

For example, the most common situation is having an oral presentation on a weekly topic, as part of a course at Uni..
Even if the topic seems boring or if it isn't something you personally find interesting - you can still find ways to make it interesting for others - using props, powerpoint, photos, short videos (on topic) etc.
When assessment time comes around - your presentation can make a world of difference to people's lives.
They might decide to write their essay on that particular topic, the notes they took during your talk could be helpful, they might get a better mark on an exam because something you said springs to mind.
A boring presentation is not memorable. But everyone remembers an awesome presentation!

Hope this helps, from one Pisces Merc to another

Wow I love stories like this, when people can turn around debilitating habits. Thank you for sharing.

About your friend, I really do think 6th house Mercury has advantage over the 12th. I think the 6th house Mercury can still experience a lot of anxiety, but they are more apt to work on this, since they seem to always be about self improvement. However I will still use this story as motivation for sure.

And let me say that I really do love Mercury in Scorpio. The ability to transform, and be reborn again. Good stuff. Truly fearless people , most Scorpionic types! Thank you for your story, and I congratulate you on your successes .

My Mercury's aspects :

Mercury Conjunct Sun both in Pisces
Pisces Mercury square Uranus in Sag
Pisces Mercury square Mars in Sag
Pisces Mercury trine Moon in Cancer
Pisces Mercury sextile MC in Capricorn

Those observations you mentioned about my thoughts being introverted and that I am not used to sharing them are VERY true. I think also I feel so much! And that people's energies just make my mind very chaotic, because I am feeling too much at the same time. Almost like hearing voices, but instead your not hearing them, just feeling them. So I guess I am very sensitive to my environment. When I am comfortable the fun Sag part of me comes out .

Odette <3 This really made my day. Piscesan Mercuries united !!!! Yeah I really dislike being judged, and when I am standing up there I feel like I am about to be guillotined in front of everyone, or that they will start throwing tomatoes at me. In my mind I feel like I am an easy target. I think it is because I have been bullied my entire life. Haha typical whiney Pisces victim story lol!

Your advice REALLY made sense to me, you really did <<speak>> to me haha! You are right, when I am into a topic, I can be very very enthusiastic, but I think I still feel fear. Sadly to say in school you don't get the chance all the time to chose something that touches you to share with others. HOWEVER, I totally hear you that <<I>> have the power to make any topic/presentation interesting, and to make my presentation the highlight, not myself.

I will really take your advice with me, and again thank you thank you!! ^____^

I had a speech impairment as a kid. Due to the blow to my confidence that it dealt me, I was selectively mute as a teenager and adolescent. I was constantly picked on for mispronouncing words, so I saw no reason to talk. I didn't really begin to develop my public speaking skills until college. I kinda sorta learned how to fumble my way through it, though all those speeches pertained to presentations, which meant that I could basically prepare for and structure the speech to a T. I used a lot of notecards and picked a spot on a wall to stare at.

I also found that if I knew the subject really really well, nobody cared about my awkward behavior. That carried over into my career. Most of my day-to-day interaction is one-on-one, though it sometimes evolves into a group presence. I had a really great mentor who told me to just pick up my detailed notes and tell them all how much I knew. Concentrate on what I knew, and I would be able to communicate to them well enough that they could understand what I was saying. It allows me to be able to at least talk about that which I'm knowledgeable, but I'm far from a good public speaker.

An impromptu or informal speech is another deal entirely. I've never attempted one and I have no urge to. Also, if it's not required for my job, it's not likely to happen. I'll avoid it at all costs.

I'm always commended for my public speaking skills, be it in reference to a class presentation, wedding toast or stage performance. I've always felt drawn to being the center of attention in front of large audiences and feel quite at home there. I have a natural synergy with large groups. I've tried to find facets of my chart to attribute this to over the years -- all I can really confirm are my Sun (ruler of 11th) in the 3rd House, Moon opposite Mercury and Sun Quintile Ascendant. I've also read that my Midheaven in Cancer can conduce to feeling "safe" (Cancer) in front of crowds (Midheaven).

And though I don't have Aquarius prominent in the chart, I've also read that due to Aquarius' non-emotional, large groups-orienteation, placements like Moon or Saturn in Aquarius make one more comfortable with bigger groups than one-on-one interaction.

Oh god im a singer and go to music school studying music performance and omg I love to sing jazz music BUT I get so nervous im always over estimating myself and im so insecure and sometimes I think to myself I'll never be a great performer when it comes to POPO music but jazz im great at! But I get so nervous it sucks

I don't know if it's because my chart ruler venus in sag in the 3rd house is SQUARING jupiter in the 12th RETREOGRADE in virgo ugh!!!! and my venus trines my moon which is my 10 RULER. But God how I lower my insecurity so much when I'm ABOHT to sing and even after even people say im good after my performance and ILL BE DISGUSTED BY THAT cause deep downside I feel like I could've done way better.

I have Mercury conjunct Mars in the 3rd/4th house in caprciron as well.

I used to be a singer (hobby) and be in the front on stage. I was always nervous at first but this faded after a few minutes. When I started working at a vocational school I became an instructor and had to deal with classes full of youngsters. All good, not super but something natural. It stil wasn't going really smooth. Then I had to do instructions for large groups (55 max) and I became better at it. The main thing was, I learned a technique at therapist school which was about taking your own space. When I learned that I was so much better! The natural speaking with joy and jokes but also seriousness and everyone went silent and listened. This is also part of good public speaking.

I have Mercury conjunct MC in Gemini (frequently I do go too fast) but square my Ascendant. I have always suffered the painful conversations where people take over my conversation and everyone suddenly treats me as if I am invisible. It never happens when you own your own space. Just because it's your birth right. Sort of are grounded and know people have to deal with you. It's only fair. I don't know how to explain it in good English

Ah, so sorry for the late reply- I just saw this.

6th house Mercury does seem to be more 'aware' of their faults, and strive to make their mental abilities as 'of use' as possible.

But 12th house Mercury is better at brainstorming, creating possiblities, but the energy must "flow"- much like in all water houses.

My 12th house cusp is in Gemini, so the energy functions similarly. I produce my best original thoughts in places where there is isolation and solitude (12th house). Even if I am in a crowded room, having this mental bubble where I feel at peace to think is very useful, ime.

Mercury in Pisces is one of my favorite Mercuries to talk with- they always have a keen sense of intuition as well as a great deal of thoughtfulness.

With a combination of Pisces/Cancer in trine, I'm guessing internally, you have an ease with communicating how you feel (Moon). But you may struggle with communicating this to others. With the hard aspects to Mars/Uranus, your external environment represents a disruptive force (Mars/Uranus), as you feel overwhelmed with new ideas (Sagittarius).

But with the nice aspect to the IC/MC, you feel most motivated when you feel like you are working towards something personal (IC) to you, as Odette said. :thumbs up:

Thanks for sharing this! Right now I am in grad school and depending on the class, jokes aren't really 'allowed', which stinks bc I agree that it can lighten the mood. I know this isn't what you meant to say but when I read 'taking your own space' I read it as 'taking your own time' such as its important to speak in your own time, do not rush, take a breather etc. But I still like the concept of what you said

So I guess 'know your s**t' is what you are saying, front to back lol. This philosophy is often lost to my backwards piscean mind, so I love hearing it. In one moment I know it, then it floats away again! Apparently from the beginning my grasp of the subject was weak. I feel the 'know your stuff' mentality is a very Mercurial( in the Virgo sense)/Plutonian thing, know it front to back lol. These types I think would never 'fake it until you make it'. Anyways, thanks!!

No problem, I do late replies all the time or sometimes unintentional 'no replies' lol.

My parents both have Virgo placements, one has a virgo moon, and one has a 6th house moon. Other than that my exposure to Virgoan people has been limited, oddly enough until now (during my saturn return). I am really appreciating the great energy my Virgo pals are giving to me. Its pretty awesome when the Neptune and Mercury can unite and share, truly a beautiful connection indeed.

Wow what you said about the water flowing...so true. Only works if the water is moving, not stagnant.

Yes your thoughts on my aspects were very insightful! I can communicate within myself and with trusted people my feelings and thoughts with ease. But in groups, I really hate it. Thanks to the hard mars and uranus aspects I do feel a disruption within this setting. Wow and about the new ideas thing, so true! Its because (mercury rx) I need time to process something new, if its sprung on me I most likely will not be able to quickly respond with something clever and intelligible. Also to add, I feel angry when someone interrupts me. Not because of the 'manners' aspect, but because once I am on a 'speaking roll' I know that if its interrupted it will be hard to start again for me. And yes when something is personal and close to my heart I am way more invested to work through the nerves and aggravation I feel when speaking publicly.

Thanks for your reply ^__^~~!!

What? No jokes? It's important!
Yeah, I first wrote it as take in your own space. I deleted it but it might have been better. Stepping into your own power, standing your own ground because it's our birth right. I know you already got it but still .. hehe. Taking a pause is very good as well.

I feel the 'know your stuff' mentality is a very Mercurial( in the Virgo sense)/Plutonian thing, know it front to back lol. These types I think would never 'fake it until you make it'. Anyways, thanks!!

Yeah, basically. That would be all those Pluto sextiles and heavy Mercury in my chart talking lol. 'Fake it until you make it' used to irritate me to no end, too lol.

Even if you don't have any Virgo or Pluto in your chart though, you can still find a way to make speeches work for you. I've seen every sign of the zodiac succeed at public speaking. Knowing your learning style should also help, too.
