Do you look like your Ascendant? Or do you know anyone who doesn't?It's funny because pretty much everyone I know (and whose birth time I know) matches the traditional description of their Ascendant sign - if not completely, then at least for the most part. I'm the only one who's pretty much the polar opposite of the traditional description. I'm a Virgo Rising, and the strange thing is, I actually identify with the description in that I'd PREFER to look like that. Personality-wise the description also matches. But I've got a dramatic hourglass shape with a bosom that's comically large for my frame - think Jayne Mansfield. That sounds great in theory, but combined with a face that only a mother would love, that's always seemed more like a cruel joke to me. It's actually always been a source of insecurity to me - especially so when I was younger - to have such a great disparity between a traditionally "sexy" body and a decidedly unattractive face. I've never been able to "own" my body at all; I feel like if I were to behave and dress in a way that flatters my body shape (i.e. clothes that proudly emphasize the hourglass shape instead of hiding it), with this face I would only end up looking like a hilarious cartoon of a busty "butterface". I also feel like if I had this face, but the lean and elegant Virgo body, I could dress in a minimalist fashion and be stylish and refined, if not pretty. A refined-looking person doesn't have to be pretty. As it is, though, I dress in potato sacks and pretty much try to forget I exist as a physical being at all... Anyway, I'd be curious to know if anyone has similar experiences. Does your Ascendant sign match the way you feel like you're "supposed" to look, and do you actually look like that, or do you feel more like you're trapped in an alien body? And I wonder what in a natal chart could cause such a disparity and "alien body" feeling? IP: Logged |

I hope one day you feel better about your looks.I think my face is a mixture of my big 3 and my body is "ruled" by my ASC ruler. ------------------ Anomaling around since 1911. IP: Logged |

That's interesting - yes, I can see how the big three would modify it. Although, my chart is mostly Aquarius and Libra, and I don't look like those, either. If anything, my face is somewhat Scorpio-like, though I only have Jupiter in Scorpio...I wonder if a Taurus Moon is enough to account for the, er, voluptuousness? I hasten to add that being insecure about my looks doesn't actually make me insecure about being *me* - I don't spend my time fretting over my looks, and I know that a less attractive face doesn't make me unattractive as a person. I hope this thread didn't come across as "woe is me". I'm just curious what might account for the disparity. I don't seem to identify with any sign, in terms of looks. IP: Logged |

Petronilla - Do you have tight planetary squares to your ASC in your natal? That would probably modify your ASC a lot! In essence, it would give it the flavor of something Venusian (like your 1950's description of yourself) if maybe you had a strong Venus inconjunction/square/opposition I also have a Virgo ASC so it's really interesting to me that you posted this. I've always felt I could identify with my ASC (for better and worse), but I have a tight Sun trine to my ASC which I think helps add to the resonance. IP: Logged |

I have an idea...since Aries rules the head and is the 1st sign.Do you have first house placements? What is it that bothers you in your features? Do you have a long or aquiline nose? I hope you don't mind the questions. I don't find these unatractive. But you said scorpio features so I'm thinking about these IP: Logged |

athenaia, there's only a sesquiquadrate to my ASC from Venus (2 degrees). And a rather wide trine from the Moon (6 degrees). And my Venus is retrograde, too, as well as squaring Pluto... which probably accounts for my hugely problematic relationship with femininity and sexuality, but doesn't explain the looks-related identity crisis Cancer is supposed to rule the bosom region, isn't it? I only have North Node in Cancer, so that's probably not it, either. I actually got curious enough to look up several busty people and they all had heavy Cancerian influence... but there doesn't seem to be an astrological explanation for me having a G-cup bust. Ah, well. Soltze, nope, nothing in the 1st house - and no Aries either. As for Scorpio, I suppose I was thinking in terms of eyes: I've got prominent eyebrows and piercing eyes of an unusual colour, which is actually the one thing I like about my face. I'm vaguely pleased that they've been called "witch eyes". (Well, at least witch eyes is better than the psychopath eyes I always have in photographs.) It's funny, I've disliked my face for so long that I can't even remember what exactly I dislike about it. It just seems like a jumble of discordant features, with the added bonus of a weak chin and an overbite. IP: Logged |

Come to think of it, isn't a weak chin supposed to be a Cancer Ascendant thing, too? I'm starting to think I was "supposed" to be a Cancer ASC, but the C-section spoilt everything IP: Logged |

Oh yeah, I have the eyebrows too...scorpio moon LOLI really don't know what to tell you. I have Venus and Mars in Cancer and it doesn't affect my assets. I'm a B-Cup :-( But my mom who is a Virgo ASC with a Virgo Sun has always had D-Cup. The Virgo characteristic of appearance she has is a very short height. She has also Sun-Mercury conjunct. So everything is reinforcing the Virgo. No ASC tight aspects. Only a Saturn sextile. She only has Júpiter and Uranus in Cancer without much aspects. Maybe you have a strong Ceres placement. Since she is a mother archetype and an agricultural godess. IP: Logged |

Do you have anything significant in cancer or a heavy fourth house? I'm sure you are beautiful. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, you just have to figure out what works for you! Experiment with different hairstyles, clothing, etc and find something that makes you feel good. No one should walk around feeling that terribly about themselves. IP: Logged |

I don't look like a Gemini rising lol. I'm not slender or tall, but I definitely identify with the personality traits.Actually, I used to look like a Gemini when I was younger, but now I have a fuller hourglass figure, which I assume is a Cancer thing. Haha, not gonna complain though because men love it --- I think you're being too hard on yourself, girl. You're probably more attractive than you realize. I used to have the same issue, but I coped with it by appreciating more the beautiful parts of my appearance regardless of the imperfections. I honestly think it's just the Virgo in you bringing yourself down, thinking you are not "perfect" enough. But remember, perfect doesn't always necessarily mean most beautiful. Appreciate yourself more and you will start to see appearance in a better light than you do now. IP: Logged |

I don't match cap asc's descriptions. Most of the ones I've read suggest a tall, lean body type. My body is small, smooth, slender-curvy. I do look very saturnine though, with the cool wintry colouring and small-ish features. Btw, I also think that you're too hard on yourself. IP: Logged |

I am Sagittarius ASC. Although I agree mostly with the personality characteristics of my ascendant I don't agree with physical characteristics as much. It says that I'm supposed to have an "athletic build" and lean body since I'm always on the go, playing sports, etc. Yes, that was me when I was like 8 years old. In reality, I'm such a couch potato and gained more weight than I would like. But so what? that doesn't change the fact that I was born with Sag ASC. I don't think the ASC physical descriptions are going to ring true for EVERYONE. And that is totally normal and okay. No one is perfect. You will be surprised how many people are insecure with their bodies even if they are drop dead gorgeous models. Everyone has their little issues with their body and I think that's why we need to learn to accept our bodies as they are and appreciate them! It's our one and only body! I also think you may be too harsh on yourself. With Virgo rising, you may be critiquing your own body/face for littlest things. Other people will probably not feel the same way about you. I know that because I'm a Virgo Sun and I also tend to pick myself apart for things people don't even notice. We crave perfection and that sometimes ruins us. So don't worry! You are probably 1000 times more beautiful than you think you are. And who cares what other people think? Dress the way you want, it's your body and your life! What if they don't match your face? So what? Life is too short to worry about what other people think. They are also too busy living their lives anyway.

I don't look anything like my Aquarius ASC. I definitely look like a Pisces rising. I also think my Gemini Moon is pretty evident in my appearance. I have Pisces intercepted in my 1st house, and Neptune in Capricorn is also conjunct my chart ruler, which is Uranus in Capricorn. I do look a bit Saturnian, though I don't think it matches the overwhelming Pisces vibe most people get from me. IP: Logged |

This is the truest virgo rising description ive ever seen LOL! Hm Im not sure. I think I look very virgo rising. Ive always been skinny pale and neat. People say I have very expressive features. But I do know that planets aspecting the ascendant will change the flavor of it somewhat, depending on how strong the features of the asendant and the planets aspecting it are. Ive noticed that some signs express themselves more strongly than others. My boyfriend is a cap rising and the only thing I can see is the big nose, oval face and serious demeanor. Just the shape of his eyebrows look serious and sad. Also I think the moon signs shine throgh the eyes a lot. IP: Logged |

I have a Virgo Asc conj Mars and I suppose I look like a Virgo with blue Pluto eyes (intense eyes). Fine features, pale skin, slim and red/auburn hair from the Mars aspect. I was born with bright red hair and had a temper like someone with serious Mars-issues My ascendant is close to Leo though so the texture of hair looks like that of a lion. On a good day.. My mother is Virgo ASC and has a curvy figure. She is beautiful but she won't see it, so I am sure this is just the virgo influence being overly self cirtical. I am certain you are much more beautiful than you realise Petronilla <3 IP: Logged |

Also I think I look like my ASC which is Cancer. I am a little curvy. But I also think I look a little Piscean sometimes too because my eyes go all far away sometimes- makes me look like a zombie aha I remember when I was discovering astrology and reading about all the signs I thought, I am definitely going to be Cancer rising, before I checked- and I was IP: Logged |

The person with Asc in Virgo typically sees the flaw -- in self or others, or in things. This is part of the perfectionist orientation that is so typical for this detail-oriented personality or mode of expression. But when this is combined with low self-worth, a poor self-image generally results. Flaws are exaggerated, seen in self, but not as much in others. Petronilla, I'm not sure what you are referring to in terms of 'look' of the Virgo rising person, but too often these are based on celebrities who make their living based on appearances, which skews the definitions for the rest of us. On my rising signs page, I have only men right now ... http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/#virgo ... because I've had trouble verifying with certainty good female examples. But you will notice that Woody Allen isn't exactly a model, and Jacques Cousteau isn't either, and certainly I would not put Nicolas Sarkozy on the fashion runway. I think it is important in these situations to get feedback and/or look at yourself anew, and decide on what features about yourself, your face that you like and accentuate them in how you dress or doll up. That means your face! Many Virgo types, not just the rising sign folks, have some type of flaw or physical health matter that challenges the 'normal' appearance or confidence related to their bodies. I could run down a list. I'm a Virgo riser too, and I've always been a very scrawny guy. Even now at 45 I weigh only 112 lbs. I didn't bust 100 lbs until I was 40 years old! But I did not let that stop me from doing things in life and showing up with intelligence and a listening ear. At the moment I've got loose skin puffed up on my nose that looks terribly swollen and bruised most of the time, like I've just been in a fight and got smacked on the nose. And there's not much I can do about it. I've had people ask me about it in public. I've never been one to like being singled out for any reason, good or bad, but I don't let it rattle me too much, and I am not going to let it sabotage my self-esteem. It is as if many of us Virgo types are here partly to present a flawed image, and/or present flaws for reexamination of whether something is 'done' ... a reminder we are all works in progress. This can be uncomfortable to some who are hung up on appearances or superficial notions of beauty. People don't like to be reminded of flaws sometimes -- in anything. Petronilla - I think you can dress or dress up to please yourself (at least from time-to-time), not avoid a potential visual contradiction with how you think you look. The sexiest thing I've ever seen is a woman who does not have model looks but who accents her best features and struts her stuff anyway. ------------------ The Declinations Guy Expert Rectification Click here for Complete Rising Sign Descriptions IP: Logged |

1.if you don't like something about your appearance, change it. Change it right now!! Because then you will feel so much better about yourself and you can stop wasting your time with these feelings. They are unnecessary. 2.You do realize that everyone has their own preference in appearance right? Meaning you may Not be exactly society's idea of the perfect model whatever but some guy or girl out there is going to love you just the way you are. And you should too... And I don't think someone is going to want to pick at you giving you endless adoration when you should do that for yourself. When you love yourself it makes it easier to love other people...
Our bodies are temples and we should appreciate them. We should take care of them. Love you. Work you. Create your own identity and fashion statement!! I feel like what you need is to hear other people bashing their appearances o make you feel better about yourself. Sorry I can't help you with that maybe other posters will... just know that beauty also comes from within and I know you said you aren't insecure about anything else but by being insecure about this it's affecting other areas of life Everything's connected...
