Hi everyone I want to give my friend an astrology book for Christmas and would love some suggestions! He doesn't know anything about astrology, so I'm trying to find an introductory book that still goes in depth. He's a Taurus with moon in pisces, venus in gemini, mars in libra, and I think virgo rising. Does anyone with these placements know of a book with really good descriptions for them? Especially pisces moon for a man. My favourite sun sign descriptions are in Linda Goodman's book but that's just sun signs. Thanks! IP: Logged |

If it's just a beginner book you're after, but with some depth, try to find a copy of Parkers' Astrology. Beautiful illustrations and easy to follow. Another one I like is The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need by Woolfolk. IP: Logged |

In general, for an intro to astrology with descriptions for the planets in signs/houses, I wholeheartedly recommendSecrets From a Stargazer's Notebook by Debbi Kempton-Smith When you say "good" do you mean insightful or flattering? IP: Logged |

hmmm lets see, we're in an astrology forum, we're all aware of the greatest astrologer EVER! Linda Goodman's Sun Signs (but of course ) all kidding aside, She is an easy read, she's quite complimentary with her descriptions and if he is at all interested in Astrology this is as good of place as any to begin. ------------------ "There ain't no revolution, only evolution, but every time I'm in Georgia I 'eat a peach' for peace." Astrology: A Complete Illustrated Guide to the Zodiac by Molly Hall -- not my favorite book on astrology, but it would make a great gift for a novice practitioner.IP: Logged |

I love Howard Sasportas. He is like a magic dream, to me. He passed away, recently, I think. I wish I could have told him how much he meant to me.------------------ Want to Read Simple, Fun,Sexy Articles on Astrology? Check Me Out, DUDE. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Barbriallen! I thought about this overnight. There are around 10 'very-introductory' books that I owned or borrowed from library before. BASED on "Virgo rising" (Pisces Desc/ Moon 6th or 7th House) I think this book might fit his (and your) introductory needs. Also has uses past the point of introduction. This book will 'grow' with you-- on all kinds of levels. Alan Oken. Houses of the Horoscope: An Introduction. Published in 2009 by Ibis Press, An imprint of Nicolas-Hays, Inc. Copyright 1999 A.O. Paperback 191 pages (~$15.95) ISBN 978-039254-156-0 BF1716 .O38 2009 133.5 '3042--dc22 I own his Alan Oken's Complete Astrology: The Classic Guide to Modern Astrology 620 pages, paperbk -- It was one of my first books I bought after I established an interest in astrology. I was so captured by his passion. There's hardly a time I don't cry when I read this book because his writing is so inspiring. There's a sense of the Beautiful in his connection to the Cosmos. Excites my innerVision.
I have his other books, except don't have the Soul-Centered Astrology one yet. (This is an esoteric system of astrology, different from Classical Astrology. The one you want is Classical, Barbriallen.) Heh-heh, and ho! ho... I'm going to see if Santa might bring ME this one for Christmas... Every Sun/Moon in Pisces and/or 12th house Sun/Moon should read The Astrological Neptune and the Quest for Redemption by Liz Greene. It's mandatory IMO. Since he has Pisces Moon he probably feels a soul disconnect with society (he has Taurus/Virgo, so he probably is more grounded than the average Pisces, but the book is a great book regardless). This will open him up to the whole why and may help him feel more secure having a Pisces Moon. I have a 12th house Water stellium, Sun and Moon in the 12th, Pisces North Node with exact Moon quincunx Neptune and this has helped me.IP: Logged |

Wow! Thank you all so much for your replies. I'm so excited to read these new titles, and learn about some new astrologers. (Although we all seem to agree on Linda Goodman's preeminence.) I suspect I'll be buying myself some early Christmas presents too.@Gemini Blues That sounds great! And by good, I suppose I just mean accurate. So yes, insightful, not superficial. @mirage29 Thank you for your suggestions, and for taking the time to think about it. A very merry Christmas to you as well! @Comatoes "This will open him up to the whole why and may help him feel more secure having a Pisces Moon." Exactly what I was hoping for! Thanks again everyone IP: Logged |

Astrology for the Soul by Jan Spiller would indeed make a fantastic gift. I second that one. My sister borrowed my copy and has had it for about a year. I ask for it back every few months... She has said she will replace my copy because she has writtrn in the margins and bookmarked many pages... She's not into astrology but she loves that book. But for a comprehensive astrology book I might recommend the first one I read, which I still love... Isabel Hickey's ASTROLOGY: A Cosmic Science... IP: Logged |
