Hello Lindalanders! You guys are the best collection of astro-knowledge, so I'd like to pick your brains about a little something... If you had to pick your top three (or five or one or ten - any number) books to begin the study of astrology with, what would you pick? Feel free to include beginners/advanced levels as you wish. The only book I ever read (or owned) is Linda Goodman's Sun Signs (of course) - which was gifted to me when I was a kid. The rest I've been reading from blogs, Lindaland, and the wonder that is Google. But it seems kind of haphazard to me. Don't really feel like I'm studying it unless I have a book (or dozen) to tuck into. In the near future, I'd like to get some of these and study for real. So, please go ahead and suggest any that you've read/mean to read/think one should read... (In any or all categories - natal, transits, interpersonal, etc). IP: Logged |

If you do a Google search, you'll find lots of information.I no longer have my books, I've donated them. The only ones that I remember were Suzanne Whites. IP: Logged |

Yes, I know that. Actual reading experience beats any number of random online reviews. Separating the wheat from the chaff in the barrage of information online is a matter of trial-and-error. The whole reason I created this thread is because I'd rather take the opinions of people whose knowledge of the subject matter I trust.IP: Logged |

"The only astrology book you'll ever need" is pretty good for learning beginning astrology in a more technical sense. "Sextrology" is outstanding in my view for reading in depth about sun signs. "Astrology for the soul" is pretty much a must have for reading in depth about the Nodes of the Moon. IP: Logged |

It's not as bad as the title suggests. Though yes, of course it does talk about that. "The Powerful Declinations" was another I liked and recommended to me by Kannon. IP: Logged |

Oh I don't mind if the content is 'worse' than the title suggests. Just the thought of having that on my purchase history.. I'm always paranoid that someone will find out.Declinations, you say? Hmm..*adding to list*. IP: Logged |

I bought Planets In Composite by Robert Hand, it's a good book to learn about composite charts, especially because there's little information available online about it. I bought Relationship Signs too by Linda Goodman. If you are gonna buy a book online then buy it at www.bookdepository.com, they offer free worldwide shipping.IP: Logged |

Seconded. One of best astrology books of all time. ETA: This book as well, also mentioned by mirage29 Astrological insights to personality by Betty Lunsted is a really amazing combination of psychology and astrology but is best for students that are more mature and also that already have some prior knowledge of psychology/astrology/metaphysics. It's not a beginners book, whereas Astrology: A cosmic science teaches you all the basics and is very in-depth at the same time. IP: Logged |

Linda Goodman's Sun Signs, The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need, and Generational Patterns Using Astrology. One goes in-depth on all the Sun Signs, one goes into EVERYTHING, and the other goes into Jupiter-Pluto Signs, which is a great way to understand why everyone born in the same time period has certain similarities in how they act (as well as appearance, as I've noticed Pluto and Neptune's effect on it, as well as the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant). All are must reads for anyone. Learning about why others are the way they are helps you understand them better.IP: Logged |

I haven't seen any synastry book from Robert Hand, but he does have Planets In Transit, which I heard is a great book, so I intend to buy that one soon. They sell tarot cards too, so you might want to look into that. IP: Logged |

Great thread, Elysia...some day I want to read ALL these books! I don't consider myself well-read so I was wondering if I should post or not. As it stands... My favorites include all of the Secret Language books, though it's not traditional astrology, I think there is a lot of truth in them. Free online if you have Facebook: www.thesecretlanguageofbirthdays.com But much easier to appreciate and understand if you have a hard copy. One of my favorites: I also love anything by Dane Rudhyar, especially his book The Astrology of Personality. I absolutely adore Richard Tarnas' Cosmos & Psyche. This won't teach you how to be an astrologer, but it is a really brilliant defense of astrology, advocating for an academic shift that embraces astrology along with an expanded, more spiritual worldview. This is one of my top five favorite books of all time. As for technical know-how, all I've got is Parkers' Astrology, which is nice and thorough about teaching you how to be an astrologer, but not exactly my cup of tea, with its interpretations. I included pictures because I sorta can't help it, if I think of a book cover I want to see it, too. IP: Logged |

It's so great to come back and see all these replies!! I'm like... @Faith, Not well-read? Oh pish-posh!! Thanks for adding your names - especially love the Cosmos & Psyche one. I've often pondered myself how and why I believe in it so much. I just do, and all I've seen so far supports it. But what if I have to defend it to someone else some day? "In my experience" seems rather flimsy as the sole argument. I'd love to have a more in-depth answer. This is just what I needed.. kewf1988, Generational patterns! Yeah, you know - that was my prime motivation for a lot of studies - 'why people are the way they are'... I was trying to understand, forgive and reconcile a lot of what I saw and absorbed. Every piece of understanding is one step closer to peace. yungang_grotto, That's so cute. neptunicity, Yeah I wanted one for transits too, thanks! DS, Awww.. Yes, and I'll bring sandwiches. So, your family knows and sees your books too? IP: Logged |

I'm lucky to have read any. In fact, I can't remember the last time I've read a book from start to finish. I have a bunch that I've read about half of but in random pieces. **opens book** 2 minutes in "Borinnnng. Get to the point already!!" 2 more minutes **closes book and sets in the bookcase where it shall collect dust for all eternity** IP: Logged |
