Yes I think you may be onto something there. That is something I've struggled with a lot in my life, but the struggle has been there for a purpose.

I have a very afflicted ASC and ASC ruler.

I've always struggled with the disconnect between my "core" being and my "appearance" - Gemini Sun vs. Virgo ASC. It's a feeling of, being unable to authentically express how you really are or feel because you're restrained by your own body? It's hard to explain. It's like...being excited about something and wanting to act excited but to smile or act enthusiastic doesn't feel right? You just feel like it's awkward or forced and not really "you."

I go through phases of this myself. I guess I wouldn't be so sensitive to certain things, if I really loved myself as I am. At the same time, I can flip that switch at some point, and feel just fine. I wish I could do it right away.

Harsh Saturn aspects to the luminaries perhaps?

- Personally I used to struggle with feeling a disconnect between how I appeared to others, versus how I felt inside, which can be frustrating and depressing.
I have both my sun and moon quincunx my ascendant.

Also thinking maybe certain chiron positions may do it... or lots of chiron aspects.

Although everything is how we make it- it's not any placements 'fault' in particular, rather how we handle it.

I agree, though I believe the chart can point to the tendencies (which are often buried psychological issues from childhood) and once understood through the chart can allow one to move forward with their personal healing. I personally couldnt comprehend myself as a soul until I delved into my natal chart because I'm very complex. Astrology explained me better than psychology (I learned psychology first) and has provided more healing than most other tools though I think they are best used in conjunction (though I am stricly against pharmaceutical medications. Every illness that exists on this planet can be healed naturally and holistically). I follow the belief that the stars impel not compel but I also believe we choose difficult childhood experiences from a Higher Self level before incarnation that can later be probed and understood and brought to terms with consciously and with action, and though it may seem like the stars compelled at a young age, it was truly a choice, at a soul level, though unconcious to the ego mind at that age.

I don't think that this is an astrology thing. But it can be further "evidenced" by astrological positions(as with anything that is subjectively experienced)

I would look to Cap/Virgo/Scorpio placements. As these energies tend to have obsessive anal qualities that zoom in and pick at something negative/"flawed" and make it BIGGER.

So a Virgo Asc for instance;who feels that their nose is bigger than they want it to be and finds that people comment negatively on it etc. May become very shy and self-conscious and uncomfortable in their own skin-regardless of the company.

This Vigo Asc person, who is already prone to self -criticism etc. may learn to go beyond just looking at it as something "funny"/eccentric about themselves. But something seriously flawed and reflecting poorly on them etc.

But one thing that must be remembered about self loathing is that it is borne from an old 1st thought.

There is someone/something that 1st happened to that Virgo Asc that nurtured an idea that their nose is "ugly" and thus they are "not enough" or "flawed" in some way.

Through life experiences, this energy in the birth chart can definitely have them diligently sift and pick "evidence" to affirm that. And thus respond to life from that premise.

I don't think that such a person hated themselves right off the bat.

I think the idea was borne from outside themselves. And so they want relief from the thoughts that they have internalized about themselves for so long i.e "I am just not enough".

I think 7th house stelliums can make you doubt yourself more and maybe take on the characteristics of other people.
