Thanks. And I'm glad the rough stuff is behind me. I don't understand why many would want to be a child again, though that song Mad World did give me a reason I could understand (as life can seem a lot more special and significant back then without thinking too much about how cold and uncaring the cosmos and people can seem at times). 'Course many can say how caring they are, but that can be fake, manipulative, and often conditional on giving up who you are to conform, which isn't the same thing, and can also overlook a lot (that is much easier to overlook as a child).

I'm currently working on a far future scifi. I have been working on several stories at once but I'm concentrating on one now, and doing a lot of revisions. Thing is, even I'm not sure how it's going to end, or which parts of the story I want to emphasize. But by focusing on it (rather than all the other ideas in my head) helps...it also helps that I can take the ideas from other stories and incorporate it into that one. IP: Logged |

That aside, I've done more reading on why people choose to believe the earth is flat, and a common theme is that many find it hard to trust anyone anymore, even in the scientific community (an important distinction here: it's not so much science they distrust as it is scientists--to be fair, most will only come into indirect contact through the media which tends to distort what scientists say at even the best of times). Many make comments referencing how heavily politicized (and thus lied about) science is, and everything else. Politics may be a necessary evil, but it's also the bane of civilization. People lie to promote their politics all the time (and that includes the use--exploitation would be a better word--of science as anything else) and, even worse, politics can cause a brain to lie to itself (this has been recorded in brain scans, and is something anybody who cares deeply about politics is affected by rather than only people of certain ideologies doing so). While this (and general confirmation bias and the like) has always been with us, the internet has returned us to an age of yellow journalism in which clickbait articles and fake news will do better than honest news stories that are confirmed. It's a race to get the news out first which means skipping the vetting process, and there are people who straight up admit to creating false news stories, sometimes for the laughs (some kids in Greece found a way to make extra money by creating entirely fake news story for Americans on FB to spread, which Americans did because they WANTED to believe it). What this does is alienate many people in the long run so they find it harder to believe anyone, and they can come to question even basic assumptions...and so ironically in rejecting a world of lies they can reject the truth as well. We, as a society, have done this to ourselves. Like someone once said, a cat that jumps on a hot stove won't jump on another...but won't jump on a cold stove either. IP: Logged |

I'm going to self-publish. I've heard too many horror stories of authors who sold the rights to publishing companies, both from when the company seized control of a story to turn it into a stereotype (they tend to prefer formulas even when they don't work to taking a risk, they're of a McDonald's mindset of churn out something fast and easy that's almost identical to everything else with just a paint job to give it the illusion of being a different story) to even when part of a publishing company is purchased which puts the royalties and such into dispute so they just shut it down without releasing it which puts the entire series into limbo. I'm not doing that, I won't pimp out my stories to companies like that, and I never expected to support myself based on my stories anyway. If they become popular enough from self-publishing then I can pretty much dictate my own terms to those who want to buy the rights to them, and in such a case I WILL hire a lawyer to help me with that, and be resolved to enforce the contract.IP: Logged |

This is weird. It seems I reply and what I reply to disappears. I know I clicked on this I guess about 3 hours ago but I got called away from the computer multiple times and just now got to it. (I was also replying to emails, etc.)Though the last time it happened was right as I clicked on it. I replied almost right away but when I looked at the thread I saw that what I replied to was edited away, which strongly suggests it was edited while I was replying (though it could've just taken awhile before the new version showed up for me). Just for the record, I do NOT have a phone with internet, and I don't check LL every hour or so. I check LL when I'm in my room and on my computer, which isn't all that often (and more likely to be at night when I feel tired than in the day, which may mean I'll wait to reply later when I'm not so tired). Because of this I don't normally reply right away, but that doesn't mean I'm ignoring you, assuming that's why the posts I reply to keep being deleted. IP: Logged |

Glad you saw that post.....Yes, with the publishing--- I did think that you'd be one step ahead of me on it. It made sense that (as intelligent as you are) you'd choose to go for self-publishing probably. I remember one of our YellowWax Poets saying she bought her book-rights back from the publishers for her recent book. Found out that the publisher was selling itself to another publisher... You'll have to start a thread at YW and LLC2.0 with a link to your book so we can buy a copy of it! I deeply apologize. I'm the one who edited my own posting. Didn't know you were working on it. You've probably seen me get into that kind of groove every once-in-a-super-while. I was self-conscious about this little aside. Sometimes when the OP abandons her own thread and/or it has gone cold, then I figure it's okay to have sub-conversations. You know how that goes here, around LL! I was nervous whether or not you'd seen it. Then this wave of 'intimidation' hit me, and I thought I'd crop and re-shape my comment so that it wouldn't "stick out" so much? (especially if you weren't coming back) ~oy. Sometimes, I just feel plain "awkward" posting. So silly!!! All afternoon I had composed a post for my main thread here at LL, and when I went to 'submit reply' and I felt a halting-sense to wait.
So... again I DO very much apologize. I promise to make SURE to leave my posts up for you, because you usually DO answer my replies to you. Thank you so much. IP: Logged |

No problem. And I admit it did seem we were getting too off topic, but it seems to be abandoned anyway so no harm done. For you : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_fLkbxnoGA&list=RDh_fLkbxnoGA Conceal your deepest worries Confine your thoughts inside The walls you built of damaged pride The light in your eyes failing Like you're adrift Like night pretending to be day These storms subside Though the past, the unwanted memories, are holding onto you All the power in the universe conspires to carry you Truths you find through your adversities will defend you As your powers and all your energies conspire to carry you The adversary to your soul The blackest thoughts That try to poison you These storms subside Lay down your greatest burden Relinquish that which has control of you And let yourself through Though it seems the past and the future look the same Suffice to say you're still here IP: Logged |

whoah..... I had written a really good post, and just as I went to 'submit reply' my computer froze everything!!!! I tried to save the text by highlight copy to clipboard, but No. It didn't take. The computer said it was doing a 'fresh start'...
booo hoooo! I lost my post due to glitch that went through the whole internet system, I guess? Wasn't just my computer? Said this so you didn't feel alone in your posting woes. This time, it had NOTHING to do with MY 'editing' ... It was the internet service connectivity?!!! I need to do an errand.. I hope to be back to recover my thoughts. I hope you got some sleep????! (noting the 'time' you posted) Much Love to you.... {{whoah, it almost did it again!! haha, Take Care}} IP: Logged |

Sorry to hear of your trouble, mirage. As for me...it was late, but I don't think it was that late. On my screen the time stamp says "02:49 AM." I believe that means it was 11:39 PM (my time) when I actually posted it, and that sounds about right. (Yep. Time stamp says this was posted at 5:27 PM when it's actually 2:27 PM for me.) Internet got fixed later that afternoon. Had to turn it off for a while. Even had to do a hard boot to take it all the way down.... It wouldn't shut off. Had a slough of Windows 10 updates come through.PJ, I did a "~duh!!!" when you mentioned the 'time' issue-- OF COURSE, you live on the other coast!! dummy me ROFL ... I had really really needed a break for a while. (I'm still dealing with a painful headache that had erupted-- It's been good to 'just' kick back a bit, and not press myself as hard as usual. Do what comes easy... and at least I get some things done.) Okay... I'm noticing that in the post I lost, I didn't respond to you yet. Still won't. I have my volunteer job tomorrow.. And, do maybe a little less. I hope that you are feeling okay? Emotions have been strong. Myself, I'm emotionally doing fine. {Just feeling like crap physically. Finally able to go out on walks again. yay. For a while, had to walk gently, so as not to jar my head. Very hot sun too. Just 'worn'. Making sure I eat healthy as possible.} Hope to catch up with you in a day or so... Take Care!
