I'll answer any and all questions best I can.

I'll start things off by copying the blog post on the topic that I wrote today ...

Fallacies about birth chart rectification

1. A person’s life events are all that is needed for an astrologer to determine their birth chart’s correct Ascendant.

FALSE – I could show you many cases (from my own attempts) in which progressions (from an inaccurate birth chart) for a person’s life events seemed to fall perfectly into place even according to my stringent standards for chart validation.

TRUTH – We must first know we are working with the correct rising sign and/or degree arc range before narrowing things down to a specific degree. That comes from interviewing the person in question and finding out as much as possible about how they approach life.

2. There are software programs that can determine your correct Ascendant if you just plug in your birth data and life events.

FALSE – The very best software can only facilitate rectification. It will give options as to possible Ascendants, or at least will give singular results that vary based on the input parameters you set (orbs, etc). Poor input = poor output. It is still up to the astrologer and their level of astrological literacy to make the final determination.

TRUTH – All software is made by humans and is limited to the degree of knowledge the programmer has about astrology — and rectification, the least known and understood area of astrology. Astrological literacy is more important than software and more reliably effective in rectification work.

3. You can determine every person’s rising sign just by their looks.

FALSE – All astrological information must be taken into account, as well as the person’s own description of themselves (as well as how their loved ones describe them).

TRUTH – This is one of the notions that keeps reinforcing sign-based, superficial stereotypes: the Leo rising person has a “mane” … Virgo rising people look “worried” … Libra rising people are beautiful, etc. It is true that the condition of the Ascendant and 1st house contents of the person’s birth chart does relate in principle to the head, body, and self-identity, but pop astrology has inherited some old worn out physiognomy tendencies for reductionism.

Planetary aspects to the Asc (and even Moon or Sun) can affect a person’s appearance and presentation. So a person with Jupiter parallel their Asc may seem like a Sagittarius rising or that they have a fire sign rising, even if their real rising sign is in another element, because such planetary influences are more specific and stronger than signs.

4. The only life events that can be used to rectify someone’s birth chart are the ones that happen to them, not the ones of their choosing.

FALSE – This is based on two problems:
(a) the astrologer’s misunderstanding of consciousness, free will, and synchronicity, which is not mechanically involved in rectification work itself but affects their approach to it;
(b) their lack of clarity (astrological literacy) in knowing what rulerships or principles are involved in particular life events — the ways those events are reflected in the person’s chart progressions, transits, etc.

TRUTH – Every significant life event, every milestone and its timing does show up in some way in the astrological transits and progressions when an accurate natal chart is used — and declinations are included. In fact there are numerous ways astrologically in which certain types of events can come about and be timed.

I can use any event given to me, and see events as part of an interconnected series that speaks of your unique life experience. This is what allowed me to discover internal chart rectifying metrics.

Maybe book mark this thread and come back to post questions later as they occur to you.

I know some of you may want to ask questions based on the specifics of your chart or someone's you know. If so, please include the link to the chart.

Don't paste in your actual chart here. That is for the Personal Readings thread.

We can post examples charts illustrating an idea in rectification, however.

I was told by a veteran astrologer to write out 20 major events that happened in my life for the purpose of chart rectification. This was over 20 years ago.

Thoughts on things......

For the first time since March 1994, I have heard of the heavy conflict of rounded times and many times I have seen strong accusations that the person was a total lair because the birth time is rounded. It just gets extremely nasty at times. Harsh judgements there....I end up shaking my head and so no big deal...some times I think if it is worth warring over this.

(I usually default to a solar chart with equal houses.) Nevertheless my accuracy has been at least 90% in all the years I have been doing this stuff. (23 years in astrology)

My oldest was born right at 11 AM. the clock was on the wall in front of me and she actually did come out at the time.

My youngest was born at 9:08 PM and the hospital staff dared to put she was born at 9:10 PM

I had one lady tear a strip out of me cause of my birth time....she went on the war path and this was a major issue. I have never been so savagely attacked like that before over a birth time.....so I'm like fine....if you really want to do the investigative work for this FREE cause this is your problem....we can go over every EXACT detail in my life because I have a really good memory on dates and fact in my life...in fact I kept a diary in childhood writing things down and then switched to a day timer in my adult years. I think she backed out.

I just wish some would Adult better and handle things in a more professional way really instead of taking a verbal nuke and destroying stuff.....too much drama. I have no tolerance for the stuff.

I understand perfectionism. I am a perfectionist but is it worth making oneself and others sick?

Blunt post. This is such a sticky issue.

I appreciate the information and different viewpoints. Thank you.

I'm curious about what events we can use to rectify for someone who never married or experienced family death. Any ideas here? I am thinking there are first relationships, first meeting dates with significant friends/relationships, but how would they align with the person's charts? Specifically, what energy would each planet carry if it is aspecting Asc? Do you see MC/IC aspects instead in some specific situations?

On the other hand, what kind of Acs aspects should one look at when a person experiences 4 yearly relocations in a row?

The last question, if we are looking at synastry charts with parents, we often see Asc and Mc aspects. How close are they usually between family? Would this be useful to identify an error of few degrees?

Keeping a journal is really helpful, so that specific dates are known.

Cynnared, rounded birth times can be good starting places, as I pointed out with the 7 PM time for Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge) revealed recently by Natalie Delahaye. That makes a chart that is pretty accurate with only a few degrees adjustment to get it precise. If such a chart is 'close enough' for most people I get it. However, I have gained a lot of understanding of astrology and how it works at a deeper level by pushing further. These things are worth studying in-depth since such charts can give clues to reliable rectification tools and procedures for persons who have not even a rounded hour to start with.

I can be blunt too at times about some of this, but I see no point in accusing anyone of lying about their birth time. I also leave a place for doubt in my efforts so that I can go back and recognize mistakes. That is what has enabled me to learn things that aren't even being taught about rectification.

Anything that is significant. What matters is not how huge it was, but that it was out of the ordinary pattern of weekly life. Any kind of injury, recognition, award, trip, entry into school, change of schools, etc. Basically, anything that marks change or induces it, or marks a new beginning or success (or failure).

quote:

I am thinking there are first relationships, first meeting dates with significant friends/relationships, but how would they align with the person's charts?

The primary significators of these relational events are (for 1-to-1):
- Natal Descendant (DC)
- Planetary (ruler) significator of the natal DC
- Planets in the (natal) 7th house
- Venus (natal or progressed)
- Planets progressing through the 7th house
- Sometimes Sun-Moon factors

Venus also for friendships, but we'd shift house focus to the 11th and its planetary ruler, etc.

quote:

Specifically, what energy would each planet carry if it is aspecting Asc?

Not sure how to answer that since it covers a lot and is non-specific, other than to say same as with planets the natal chart.

quote:
Do you see MC/IC aspects instead in some specific situations?

Yes, moves of residence, major events related to parents, authorities, the law, reputation, hirings, firings, etc. Because the MC is the 'arm' of the Asc (they are not separate things, but two aspects of a singular global time/location) ... there are times when the MC can even be the natal point affected when it is a relational event. For example, prog Venus (or DC ruler, or Moon) could be in aspect to the MC at one's marriage.

quote:

On the other hand, what kind of Acs aspects should one look at when a person experiences 4 yearly relocations in a row?

Moves of residence relate to the IC/4th house. You may not see the relevant transit in longitude (zodiac position). It could very well be in declination. For example, Pluto has been 20-21.8° South declination for the last four years. That makes a parallel to natal IC in late Scorpio to early/mid Sagittarius, or in late Capricorn to early Aquarius.

Also, if those moves are made from a place of confidence and restlessness, Jupiter and Uranus transits would be more indicated.

Sometimes such event series are found in two different slower planets making different transits connecting that period. If major/stressful moves, often it will be in the progressions, such as a planetary metric (internal chart rectifying metric). Such frequent changes point more to Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto if accompanied by overall instability/shaky conditions (as opposed to pleasant, desirable improvements in living conditions = Jupiter, Venus, etc).

It depends partly on whether those moves are say within the same locality or out of region/country how major the move it is. If a change of region or country, transit and/or progressed factors will point to/involve the (natal) 9th house -- unless there str Jupiter, Uranus, or Pluto factors acting upon IC/4th.

quote:

The last question, if we are looking at synastry charts with parents, we often see Asc and Mc aspects.

Yes, absolutely.

quote:

How close are they usually between family?

They vary, because there are usually some looser aspects, and those within say 1-3°. But the critical ones that help finalize validation of a chart are when the parents/loved ones' planets are within mere minutes of arc of the Asc, IC, or Moon of the chart in question (in longitude or declination): the tighter, the better. The parent/loved ones' chart almost always has at least one aspect within just several minutes arc. Sometimes this shows more (and more such aspects) with the chart of the parent with whom the person feels closest. Sometimes even tighter aspects show (or more of them) in synastry with a best/long-term friend.

quote:

Would this be useful to identify an error of few degrees?

Yes, but only if declinations (parallels, contra-parallels) are checked too.

Thanks for your interest. Excellent questions.

I don't have a rectification question necessarily, but I am responding to the quoted section. What orbs do you use for astrological transits and for progressions? And what orb do you use for transits or progressions aspecting the natal chart by declination?

I have been trying to find something astrological that can give me a good idea of whether I experienced a significant life event recently and if the event in question has long-term effects on my personality. If my chart has been rectified properly, there should be something showing up that points out an unexpected change in beliefs and views. Recently, I have become more positive. It's like things have become easier to handle. Physically, the heaviness in my chest has gone away, because I view myself in a better light than before.

Mainly, I'm trying to figure out if I'm dealing with something lasting or temporary, and considering the unexpected change, I thought that maybe Uranus would be involved somehow. However, the only major transits I can find in my chart would be transiting Pluto's conjunction to my Uranus and Neptune. There's also transiting Saturn's opposition to my Moon, but I can't tell if Saturn is involved. It's possible though that I just don't know what to look for or what is within orb to point to something of significance.

Do you have any thoughts on my situation and how it might show up? All I could find by progression was my progressed Moon recently moved into Gemini. I have not yet checked declinations by progression, because I don't know what orbs to use.

For transits, 5° maximum for the major aspects, except about 4° for sextiles. Less for the more acute/minor aspect angles (45, 30, etc) -- usually around 1°.

The luminaries have a bit wider influence, up to 0°15' arc orb because of the width of their apparent disc. Moon is the only body that I've seen the possibility of about a 1° orb (in longitude, never declination), but by itself that won't produce anything in terms of events. There will always be other tighter progressed aspects.

For progressions in longitude, include ALL minor aspects (even the 15-degree series 15, 75, 105, 165) that are normally overlooked. Those when culminated aren't so minor that they should be dismissed.

quote:

And what orb do you use for transits or progressions aspecting the natal chart by declination?

Transits:
Depends on the planet, but 1° or less. Parallels and contra-parallels by Pluto seem to have a maximum orb of around 0°50'.

Progressions:
Far less. The principle here is that the most active progressed aspects at any given time are the ones closest to culmination. You'll have to look at an aspectarian stripped down to very tight orbs of just minutes of arc: within 0°05' most of the time. Events will always be accompanied by at least one progressed aspect within 04' of exact, especially in declination.

Well, that is really good to hear.

That is likely when the unexpected comes. However, other planets could also have been involved, and that doesn't mean your change isn't permanent.

Too transient and general. If using astro.com, cut the orbs (progressed to natal) to 12% so that all active aspects will show up, minor and major. Then click on the free pdf data sheet link right above the chart image. Scroll to the bottom and look at the aspectarian.

If you want, post a link to your chart or email me your birth data (and precise timing of the recent events). It probably won't take me but a couple minutes.

Lerena, to elaborate a bit further on ...

quote:

Recently, I have become more positive. It's like things have become easier to handle. Physically, the heaviness in my chest has gone away, because I view myself in a better light than before.

This generally points to Jupiter.

I found your chart here in LL. If the natal Moon in late Gemini is accurate, then Jupiter has recently been in transit trine it. It was also opposite natal Mercury previous to that.

In the progressions, what shows is prog Jupiter 6VIR01 <75°> prog Pluto 21SCO02. But it is hard to know what else may be there in actual progressed aspects since I don't know what time range you were looking at for finding the correct Asc in the rectification. If you know you are Scorpio rising for certain, that at least narrows it down so that we know Jupiter and outward will show pretty accurate progressed aspects. Mars and closer/faster are less certain.

This is correct.

quote:
But it is hard to know what else may be there in actual progressed aspects since I don't know what time range you were looking at for finding the correct Asc in the rectification.
My birth certificate says 21:34 (or 9:34 PM) for my birth time so I started off here. I am not a rectification expert, but I do not believe my birth certificate has an accurate birth time. The reason for this is my original birth time puts my Ascendant in extremely early Sagittarius. The exact degree from the chart I had with that birth time was 33 minutes past 0 degrees. Within 10 minutes before 21:34, my Ascendant would be in Scorpio.

Since I am not an expert, the method I used to rectify my chart is not my own. However, I still have access to the method that I used to determine the degrees of my angles.

This method is mostly used to quickly confirm the accuracy of a birth time and to correct it if it's not accurate, which is what I needed to do to confirm that my Ascendant is really in Scorpio instead of Sagittarius.

First, I located Pluto's first conjunction or opposition to an angle. Pluto's first conjunction was to my Ascendant in 1995. The only thing of significance that occurred in 1995 was my brother being born on July 9th, 1995. My Ascendant is probably somewhere close to the degree of Pluto on that day.

To test whether or not the birth time I came up with needed further rectification, I looked for Neptune's first major transit to an angle as well. Neptune's opposition to my Midheaven was in 2015 around late August to late September. I do not remember the exact week of the opposition, but around the period of August 25th-September 25th, 2015 would be when I experienced the worst effects of Neptune's opposition. I felt like I wasn't myself on a professional level during Neptune's opposition to my Midheaven. It was actually a really confusing time in my life since I didn't feel like I had much direction in terms of my career or life path in general and I felt like my brain was restricted from the full range of creative thinking it had once been capable of, which of course led to me feeling bad about it since it was affecting my writing capabilities and the class I was struggling with was an introduction course to creative writing.

Neptune's opposition to my Midheaven is actually the Neptune transit I noticed first since I cannot fully remember what happened around the time of the square to my Ascendant and Neptune's opposition to my Midheaven was just more recent at the time I rectified my chart, meaning I could confirm for sure that my Midheaven must be somewhere close to the degree Neptune was in during the specified period, largely because of how I was handling the issues with my creative writing. The square, however, most likely showed up during the months I first began experiencing my crippling identity crisis in 2011.

With the birth data gained from my original birth certificate, my Midheaven would be at 11 degrees Virgo. September 19th, 2015 looks like a familiar date. I know the opposition was within 5 minutes of being exact when I withdrew from the Creative Writing class I was having issues in.

What I just described indicates that my Ascendant is in Scorpio.

quote:
If you want, post a link to your chart or email me your birth data (and precise timing of the recent events). It probably won't take me but a couple minutes.
I cannot confirm if the chart you found was the right one, because I know that I have put up a chart with an incorrect birth time from before I rectified it using the method I just described. You probably found the correct one, but just in case, I can email you my birth data and the timing of the recent event. I cannot give an exact time of the event. However, I can give a general time frame for it and the day that it occurred on. The changes in my personality occurred in the morning around the time frame of 9:30 AM-12:00 PM on September 20th.

As for emailing you, how do I obtain your email? I can say with confidence that I am a Scorpio rising, though if you have any doubt regarding my Ascendant, this can be discussed. This said, I had trouble finding any transits to my natal chart before rectifying my Ascendant to be in Scorpio. My experiences seem to indicate that I'm at least very close to the actual degree and minute of my Ascendant if not completely correct.

Lerena, you can email me by going here:
http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/astrology/#form

Based on what you've described above, I'm also sure that you're Scorpio rising. Using the outer planets as you described can help narrow it down often to a few degrees, but I'll take a look.

I sent you an email, but I used the order form that you linked to as well. The time of birth that I put in is the one from my birth certificate. Although I know it's wrong, I put that one, because it was easier to list my birth certificate as a source. For reference, my rectified birth time is 21:59:59.

Thank you for posting this, Kannon. My mom was born in a hospital that didn't record times during her birth year. I've been lost trying to figure out where to start and this is super helpful. She has no idea whether it was day or night, which makes it hard. I found a few times that seemed to work. What's crazy is I recently had a dream that I was in the hospital where she was born (I've never actually been there in real life) And the doctor told me to look at her birth certificate. He said I wrote it down, right there. It said 3:23 a.m. Strangely I have found that this time could work but it wasn't my 1st guess. I'm wondering if the dream was born out of universal truth or frustration

Don't know bananaz, but anything that can be asserted astrologically can be tested.

The key would be to write down your mother's personality as briefly and concisely as you can. Also ask her if she could sum herself up in one phrase, what would it be? I did that with my dad (using no leading suggestions) and it allowed me to determine with certainty his rising sign. However, he had at least a rounded general time to start with.
