Mercury may not be given the place of honor it deserves. We get lost in the glamor of Venus, the passion of Mars and the deep feelings of the Moon. Mercury is very important, too. We will discuss it here. Later, I will do an article about Mercury in the Houses.
For now, let’s see how Mercury operates in the signs.

Aries

This native may be very competitive. He may be someone who ACTS first and thinks later, not the best trait. However, he may be blessed with confidence and courage in his own opinions.

Taurus

His thinking may be on the slow side. I do not mean “slow” in the sense of a low IQ. I mean it in the sense of weighing options and making wise choices. Taurus is a grounded and centered sign. His opinions are likely well considered before he opens his mouth. He may be the least likely sign to speak first and repent later.

Gemini

This is mine. It is a good placement because Mercury is in its home. Mercury in Gemini is known for his wit. He is, likely, an avid reader. His mind absorbs ideas quickly. He is the proverbial jack of all trades intellectually. He knows a little about most things.

Cancer

This Mercury seems rather rare. I don’t know if this is the case or if my clients do not have it. However, Mercury in Cancer would be someone who thinks very deeply about his home and family. His interests are, likely, ones that revolve around home and hearth, such as cooking, home decorating and parenting. Anything Cancer is very loyal, so he will, likely, be a loyal person.

Leo

Leo Mercury may love to show off his intellect. He may be attracted to the
theater, a place in which he can shine. He can charm others with his childlike and affectionate nature, which he is able to communicate quite well, most likely.

Virgo

Virgo Mercury may pay too much attention to detail. The native is, likely, intelligent, but the inordinate attention to detail may be a burden. This Mercury likes to create order. He may be an excellent accountant or secretary. He can handle details effortlessly, or he makes it look so.

Libra

Libra in any placement, except Venus, may be very indecisive. Hence, the Mercury Libra may have a very hard time making a decision. I am a Libra Ascendant and I can get frozen in indecision, too, so my heart goes out to the Libra Mercury, who has a bigger dose of Libra. On the plus side, their manner of communication may be charming and refined.

Scorpio

Scorpio Mercury could be said to be the “darkest” Mercury. This native may be attracted to any number of dark subjects from detective novels to true crime. He, likely, has an investigative mind, which would make a career like a detective a very good fit. He is a natural investigator, so if he lose your keys, call him.

Sagittarius

This is the Detriment position for Mercury. I am not sure why, other than that this Mercury may rather be out throwing a football than reading. He may want to EXPERIENCE life, rather than think about it.

Capricorn

This native will, likely, be driven for success. He will, likely, be able to set long term goals and meet them “inch by inch”. If he starts out at night school, before too long he will be in law school.

Aquarius

Mercury in Aquarius may be drawn to causes. He thinks more in a global way than in a personal way. He may feel more connected to people far away than his own intimates. He would be the perfect reformer because his mind does not adhere to existing structures, societal or otherwise.

Pisces

People can give Pisces Mercury a bad rap because Pisces is a nonlinear sign. Pisces is poetic and imaginative, as well as creative. Pisces Mercuries are quick to remind us that Einstein was a Pisces Mercury. Case closed.

I have Mercury in Aries.

quote:

Yes. This is true.

quote:

Depends on the situation. I usually think first, but as I am not the best at being anything but direct, sometimes my blunt personality can cause harm or be viewed as rude. Most of the time, social expectations leave me feeling drained, because even though I think things through whenever possible, sometimes I still do a poor job of being considerate.

quote:
However, he may be blessed with confidence and courage in his own opinions.
Confidence is dependent on whether or not I can reasonably expect my confidence to be justified. When it comes to being confident, I need to know I have the experience and skills to back up the confidence I possess. I'm more confident than I used to be though. I'm also more vocal about my opinions.

Just googled it, Einstein actually has Aries Mercury, we need to find someone else I guess. He does have Mercury conjunct Saturn(which I have), so he is still useful to me.

Mercury in Cap square Mars in Libra.

My 2cents;

Mercury in Cap is in my experience an introverted Mercury . Much like the Ent tree on Lord of the Rings, it doesn't say much-unless that much is worth saying.

The square to Mars in air Libra however makes me want to get out and share now and then. But also assert my opinion(Mars).

Saturn ruled Mercury is already quite authoritative in their manner of speaking. So the additional square to Mars adds forcefulness and/or passion.

The air Libra tries to keep an open mind and be objective. Its all a huge balancing act between being assertive (Mars) but also neutral(Libra)

I get on with Merc in Air the best.

I know a few of these Mercury signs-

I have a Taurus mercury daughter and she is very very wise. She is not quick to speak, and she thinks everything through. Woman of few words, she will be. But the ones she does say are very impactful and thoughtful. Steady. Soft-spoken, loves to sing.

I have a Virgo Mercury daughter too. She talks and talks and talks and includes every detail in her stories. So many details and she gets lost in the details and loses her train of thought!

Ex husband has a Cancer Mercury. Don't know what to say. He was not loyal at all. He was all about saying what people wanted to hear. He had a Cancer Stellium- Sun, Moon, Mercury. I suspect he's a pathological liar. Very charming, but Libra asc.

I'm a Leo Mercury. It's the only fire I really have, except Neptune in Sag. I am not in to theater, but when I speak about a topic I am very passionate. I communicate well and can use confidence to cover what I don't know solidly. And I can be loud!

A couple of Scorpio mercury friends. Very cynical and suspicious. Never accepts anything until they determine it's true for themselves. Don't always say everything they're thinking, keep much to themselves.

I love fire signs Mercuries! I love their bluntness.

My boyfriend has Cancer Mercury which really flavors his whole Gemini influences. He is far more loyal and emotive than a typical Gemini Sun/Venus which I assume could be due to Mercury in Cancer. Plus he is a Libra Asc and Gemini Venus is his chart ruler - so it just leads back to that Cancer Mercury which is between the 8th/9th house.

I honestly don’t get all these descriptions about Cancer! None of them fit me :-/ Unless my parents have lied about my DOB..

Anyway, yeah.....I have Cancer Sun, Merc, Venus 11H and I can barely stand being at home or spending time with my family! I much rather travel and explore the world.

I DO have that Aqua sense of maybe thinking on a broader scale than just me me me or you you you. I like to think in terms of WE and UNIVERSE. I couldn’t care any less about baking effin cookies or making sauces.

Charlie what about emotions? For example if someone tells you a certain subject, do you apply it somehow to your feelings or how you feel about it? It doesn't have to be "home" related. I would think emotions would be important - it could be pointing to the humanitarian approach with 11H.

I am a Cancer asc and couldn't imagine spending the whole day with the family. lol

I got Mercury in Pisces. My communication can be poetic -- people interpret my conversations in many ways and then get confused. I used a lot of metaphors and emotional keywords (ex: feel, hate, love, scared, sense, hopeful, etc) -- it becomes wordy. Space out cadet but if someone needs a heart to heart talk, I am wide awake.

Umm I've seen it thrown around too here and there, I actually googled it to see how rest of my mercury in Pisces brethrens use him to save their a$$es from getting dissed coz I've not seen any mercury in Pisces using him as an example at all until now. When I read Ami's description, I was thinking "wow, how useful Einstein is going to be for me from now on "....oh well

I really think universally. If someone were to say something about how a certain human/s behave/s, I would most definitely try and see universal patterns in human behavior IN GENERAL and how we all kinda move together in behaviors.
I don’t even know if this makes sense or not.

I’m emotional with animals....and I’ll explode if you lie or backstab me....

@Charlie, like a caused and effect or syncornization? How everything is connected in every way? For example, it's never a one way street. Haha not sure what I am asking now.

Mercury to me is the manner in which one speaks as opposed to the subject matter they find most interesting. Kind of like how someone's mind works.

Pisces Mercury IMO are some of the best storytellers. They are ones to tell long-winded tales and often use imagery and imagination to illustrate a point. Like someone can envision themselves as a part of it when they are speaking. This opposed to Virgo who can do without the long-winded story, they just want the details.

Cancer Mercury IMO speaks with "feeling" if that makes sense. You can tell they really FEEL what they say as can use emotion to convey their message. Almost like there is a softness or an empathetic undertone to what they're saying. I think they try to evoke emotion out of the other person when they speak also. Sort of like Pisces in the storyteller sense but instead of imagination they use feelings to get the other person to resonate with what they're saying. This opposed to Capricorn who would speaks in a cold, curt manner to get to the point.

My friend has a Cancer Stellium too and he's the exact way, even the travelling and exploring the world instead of baking effin cookies, and he too thinks in terms of "we" rather than "me" despite being an Aries Moon and having Sun-Mars. My father and grandfather are also Cancer Suns and have this sense of "we" despite having a Leo Moon and Aries Moon respectively. In my own observation, this sense of "we" is very much present in Cancers too, that's where this protective instinct they are famous for comes from. Cancers are vrry much a tribal sign, I figure you can't relate to this part because your tribe consists of the universe( Sun in 11th) instead of the small "tribe" you were born in . I for one don't have this sense of "we" even though I have a huge stellium in 4th which I can't relate to( I can relate to Stellium in 5th) so its very foreign to me although I do have this tendency to form cliques around me.

Mercury in Scorpio

Everything Ami says about this placement is true. “Dark, however,” does not necessarily equate to evil or sinister. “Hidden” might be a better word.

This placement thrives on unraveling the unknown, whether it be in crime, the field of medicine, or understanding human behavior.

Slow thought processes but if given time, has good ability of penetrating to the core.

“Intensity of Thought” would be a key phrase for this placement. Subject runs risk of burning up its mind with non-stop, 24/7 activity.

Memory is often incredible.

Good ability at sniffing out liars and phonies. Earmarks them for life.

Depending on other placements, might have nasty revenge habits.

Not the best communicator.

Likely to be the object of curiosity seekers. A mystery novel in and by itself.

For obvious reasons, relates best to water and earth – worst to fire.

I like most of what Ami said, but I really need to say something about Mercury in Libra,

Mercury in Libra is not indecisive. Libra is not a mutable sign.

Mercury in Libra carefully weight the pros and the cons of any issue, thus coming across as indecisive by those who tend to see things from only one angle.

Mercury in Libra can be swayed with the right arguments, thus it can change its mind on an issue. Thus coming across as indecisive by those who are fixed in their thought process. People who are fixed in their thought process do not let the facts interfere with their opinions.

Libra is not a fixed sign, nor is it a mutable sign. It is a cardinal sign. I have noticed that cardinality is not well understood, especially when it comes to Mercury.

What do you mean, P? Merc in Saggi conj Saturn? Saturn tends to make Mercury insecure when in conjunction or hard aspect( square and opposition) so this would likely make it harder for you to communicate.

As an Aquarius Mercury I am not drawn to global causes, and I think that when people describe Aquarius they focus too much on their humanitarianism side rather than other parts of their personality, such as their logical side.

I feel with this Mercury, I may have certain feelings about a situation but I will logically analyze the situation before making a decision, while also accounting for my feelings if there are any. I can be seen as stubborn but it's because I won't admit I am wrong unless I hear a legitimate argument that proves me wrong and have sufficient evidence for it (at least when it comes to debates; emotional arguments I approach very differently). I am willing to hear out someone though if it means coming to the right conclusion.
