Yes, it's not about whether it's culturally easy to deal with. Perhaps in the technology age we're in Mercury in Aquarius is far more stressful. However, in terms of ability I do believe Mercury's acumen in Aquarius is at its most keen.

To give another example - Venus is exalted in Pisces. Does the principle of true unconditional, transcendental love that this placement makes more possible work well in the modern world?

Venus functions at its higher octave in Pisces, but the natives do not have an easier life in a cynical, commodity-drive, calculated, capitalist world....

To me is pretty clear often to see why venus in pisces is exalted though even in modern society, other than mercury in aquarius ability to generate ideas and be creative I don't see why it is exalted there. They can be rigid and stubborn in their thinking for example and aquarius in general tend to think they are smarter than they are, they lack humility and it becomes a huge blind spot.

My point is that they often think they are smarter than they are, I have not met an Aquarius who is a genius yet. Like I mentioned the smartest guy in the world and Einstein both have mercury in aries, the smartest guy in the world has merc conjunct jupiter in aries and trine pluto, his mercury does not even aspect uranus but I should check for parallels or minor aspects like a novile or quintile. Now Eisntein does have mercury sextile northnode forming a Yod with Uranus at the apex but he did specialize in physics so I am not surprised Uranus inconjuncts his mercury. Einstein's persona mercury is in Sagittarius.

I give lots of compliments, I love making people feel good. I like to instill confidence in others, maybe my IC in aries rules by Mars in leo conjunct venus.

I can get "cold", speak quietly, calmly, strictly logical and it just drives some people off the wall.

Interestingly, I do think Virgo in general is probably the best at dealing with disturbed people, psychopaths, sociopaths, narcissists on the extreme end of the spectrum. Hannibal Lecter confronted with Virgo Merc or strong Virgoan individual would probably end up eating himself in the end.

If they try to play their games with me/them (especially virgo mars and merc), I'm unfazed and just pick, pick, give fact after fact after fact after fact after fact after fact after fact.

Then they implode.

Who's the psycho now??

LOL

im a virgo sun, and im not sure if it's that their mercury is hitting my 12th house or i just find it frustrating because my brain doesnt at all work that way

i dont like just speaking in facts, i like possibilities and ideas and that can be really hard to discuss with a virgo mercury

i dont feel like i can just bounce a lot of ideas off them

i dont like necessarily nailing everything down to talk, it gets in the way

i know a virgo mercury who will draw up charts that are overly complicated to discuss simple topics that boil down to matters of opinion ultimately

i can feel like im talking to a robot if they dont have something to balance that part of them out

they just get too caught up in details and facts and arent as playful as i would like

i dont think im close to anyone with this mercury placement (most common mercury placement of people im close to is scorpio) tbh, but i also dont know many people who are sun signs that could even have it (aside from leos, but the ones i know dont have mercury in virgo)

ive dealt with narcissists before, personally i deal with them by just not

i avoid them if i can and if i cant i just stay civil and try to keep things until im away again

i see no point in dealing with facts or speaking to people like that about much of anything in the long run, because they dont care anyway and it changes nothing so i prefer whats easier

Exaltion isn't supposed to mean that the planet is at its best in that sign. It means that the sign is the best at achieving the matters that the planet represents; having Virgo Mercury doesn't make you the most intelligent person, nor does any mercury sign. There are many factors involved in this and intelligence isn't an integer-based factor determined by astrology.

I really don't think Mercury is exalted in Virgo, and if it was it would be because they are the best at dealing with practical, realistic situations logically. When it comes to practical matters Virgo Mercuries are the best at dealing with them in an organized manner, one of which Gemini Mercury would struggle with due to being too scatter-brained. My biggest qualm with Virgo Mercury is their tendency to over-complicate simple situations and make them more stressful than they need to be. They are not good at dealing with stress and tend to handle their stress in unhealthy ways. In this case, they sometimes can be their own worst enemy.

I can see how Mercury could possibly be exalted in Aquarius as well but having an exalted Mercury doesn't make you the most intelligent. Aquarius is much quicker than Virgo and Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, so they have a tendency to pick up on things quickly and piece them together. However, they can become obsessive and stubborn when it comes to their ideas and/or thought patterns and may have a hard time coming to terms with ideas that are illogical to them. They can be rather fixed in their thinking.

I can explain this. Or well I can try, my english is not the best :/

You have to shift your focus to Uranus. I described this before in one of your topics about, I think it was about an autor, she had uranus in cancer.

Uranus energy is often described as and likened to lightning, electricity and more importantly radio waves and brain waves!

Its erratic, its sudden but also, it moves "freely". Like water BUT, as said, its energy is like radio waves, in the air, so its not contained as water would be.

So imaging someone having mercury in contact with uranus. Astrology is often talking about the collective mind and how our minds connect etc. Uranus is like this, it can catch "radio" or brain waves and gain amazing insights.... anyways I'm just describing energies and brain waves here and how they are connected to uranus haha

Of course neptune, moon etc is also alike uranus in thise matters.

My english is not good enough but I hope you feel what I mean?

Uranus-mercury contacts helps one to understand abtract things much easier. as opposed to maybe a virgo mercury who needs tangibility.

I have my mercury in taurus, but thank good its trining mercury! I'm a paradox. In one hand I need tangibility with practical stuff and I need a lot of momentum before

I grasp things like mathematics and physics. On the other hand I grasp metaphores, psychology and untangible stuff much easier. My mind wants to flow freely like electricity. The taurus energy sometimes grounds my mind but sometimes I feel frustrated and clastrophobic in my mind, in short

Anyways I was not suppose to talk about my mind etc...

So in short; mercury exalted in aqua, more likely should be changed to "mercury in aspect with uranus" imo ^^

Even with my virgo placements myself, I enjoy it.

And remember Virgo and Pisces are polar opposites, so they're supposed to (ideally) attract one and other. The ones who are not attracted to you are the ones who still fear what they need

Virgo should see your poetic tongue as the most beautiful form of communication *-*

Yes I was going to say just this actually, that intelligence has nothing to do with it. Mercury in a chart doesn't denote intelligence, you have to look at the whole chart to see intelligence potential and even then there are many different perspectives on what the word means.

I don't think Einstein would have regarded himself as super intelligent, as he was quite scatty. I personally adore him for his emotional intelligence though.

I rate Charlie Chaplin as one of the most intelligent famous people and Nikola Tesla. I think that is more about developing and living your full potential. Great intelligence is a choice, something which is worked and developed, rather like becoming a fantastic musician. Talent is only part of the equation...

I still believe Mercury is exalted in Aquarius. All signs have weaknesses, but these natives inspire me. I love their minds, so I guess that gives a little bias ;-) but I've never seen any correlation or finesse with Mercury ruling or being exalted in Virgo. The key is that the whole potential of Mercury cannot be expressed in Virgo. The whole potential of Mercury CAN be expressed in Aquarius. Whether or not it IS is based on the natives choices and the rest of their chart of course.

I feel if we are going to say that mercury is at home or exalted in any sign it should be backed up with data, otherwise is just subjective. I am fine with mercury not been at home or exalted in virgo. I just am not convinced either that is at home or exalted in aquarius.

There are 30 people here but 4 the birthday is unknown so is really 26.

Out of 26:

Mercury in Aries 2 people
Mercury in Taurus 1 person
Mercury in Gemini 1 person
Mercury in Cancer 2 people
Mercury in Leo 3 people
Mercury in Virgo 2 people
Mercury in Libra 3 people
Mercury in Scorpio 2 people
Mercury in Sagittarius 4 people
Mercury in Capricorn 2 people
Mercury in Aquarius 2 people
Mercury in Pisces 2 people

So the top three are Sagittarius, Libra and Leo based on this data. But even then is just not a huge difference and data is pretty spread out as far as mercury placements.

Its interesting to also see what aspects repeated itself the most:

-mercury aspect neptune was found in 14 out of 26

-mercury aspect uranus was found in 14 out of 26

-mercury aspect jupiter were found in 10 out of 26

-mercury aspect pluto was found in 14 out of 26

-mercury aspect moon could be 17 out of 26 but probably less bc we don't know tob so we don't know.

-mercury aspect sun 8 out of 26

-mercury aspect venus 11 out of 26

-mercury aspect mars 11 out of 26

-mercury aspect saturn 11 out of 26

There is more of the generational planets aspecting mercury like neptune, pluto, uranus and is a tie to top it off.

Honestly this whole thing if anything makes me skeptical around how exalted planets are assessed and determined. I feel with mercury is specially tricky bc there are so many different types of intelligences out there and areas of strengths people shine in, who is to say one would work more effectively under mercury than the other.

I admire people that are creative and come up with ideas easily, I love that and that is not my strength at all but you also need to acknowledge the strengths in others. You are great with ideas but someone else is good at seeing seeings at a deeper level or looking at the bigger picture or catching details most would miss. Also not everyone with mercury in virgo is the same since house placements and aspects alter so much the expression. Like my best friend from childhood who is a leo with mercury in virgo, he is an artist that obtained a very specialized degree on sound production, he uses his attention to detail in the context of art and sound, works with sound production for movies and documentaries, very good at what he does.
