Hmmm...I don't think that the two are mutually exclusive tbh. As much as I don't think the Asc operates away or "cut off" from the descendant.

I have South Node in Sagittarius. Now Jupiter rules Sag and Jupiter is in Sag conjunct my Sun Sag(in my chart).

The SN is also parallel my Sun/ Jupiter(amongst additional others)Which to me lends weight and credit to declination aspects. Because I have always felt this "mergence" even before I became aware of declinations. This despite there being no conventional natal aspect between SN and Jupiter or SN and Sun.

Now SN is in the 8th. Am I dealing with intimacy issues in my life or trying to master the art of letting go of the persistent illusion of "control" over life events and others? Not so.

The 8th house deals with the need to be in the driver's seat and at worst,to manipulate forces and bend them to ones own will i.e relationships,money,sexual intimacy etc. The idea is to defend onself against "loss" which one often sees as a recurring theme in one's life.

I am not focused this way. This despite SN and Sun being parrallel. Even though there are times when my psyche "visits"

Instead, when I look at North node in the 2nd house of self esteem, possessions, well being, acquisition, "building up" etc. That is where my mentality is focused.

In that I am the type of person who plants seeds of trees under whose shade I will never get to sit(a very Taurus/2nd house thing to do).

The 2nd house is about longevity,sustenance and as I mentioned earlier, the NN and SN are not mutually exclusive. In that if i worry about "loss" a lot(8th) ,I undermine the 2nd house(8th house is 7 places from the 2nd thereby making the 8th house a formidable ally or enemy) i.e you can't build a house(2nd) whilst a tornado is in full swing(8th).

So my South Node in the 8th suggests that there are insecurities that I am grappling with. Insecurities that may cause me to try and manipulate things to my favour or guard against "reversals of fortunes".

But the 2nd house does not work on defense against loss. Nor insecurities of "but what will happen?". It masters self-sufficiency and self control.

Imagine a farmer (Taurus/2nd house)who decides not to plant any seeds because they fear that they can't control all the elements? Its ludicrous.

So the North node in 2nd always asks me to trust the process, respect the routine and stay consistent and constant despite the occassional fears i have. As this outlook keeps me from entertaining thoughts of death or complete severence from lifes unpredictable course.

I suspect that with so many connections to my SN, I may have manipulated things or worked things to my favour in my past life(if one is open to such belief) . Perhaps to an ubexpected demise? As natal Uranus conjunct SN.

That even death by my own hands( another manifestation of "control" of one's outcome) was likely perhaps through experimentation(Uranus). As i used to fantasize about suicide a lot when i was younger. Especially jumping off a building(Uranus).

So in this life, I am challenged to trust the process and "let go and let God" so to speak.(2nd house). Know that all is well and that even as thoughts of loss threaten to take away all that I "have" every single day. They can't take away who i "am".
