Add to that basket Saturn in Virgo/Gemini,Saturn in 3rd or 6th, Capricorn on the cusp of the 3rd/6th.

Raised by grandma or an elder, considerably older siblings or there is a huge gap between them and younger siblings, the only child, learning language through an elder, speaking with authority, being taught to speak with respect, speaking in old/srructured diction, using sentence construction in a very rigid way,you are your own "editor", someone is always shouting at you "speak properly!" and this can create pressure and/or anxiety when it comes to expressing yourself with words, assisted early learning, special needs class, native is elder sibling and is therefore "responsible" for younger siblings, native may be raised by elder siblings, no children their age around to learn from, a childhood that is isolated from peer contact prevents early accumulation of language, native looks up to a sibling that is greatly accomplished in communication, challenges in learning, learning takes longer or there is great pressure to learn early, entering school at an age that is late or too early, a stammer or lisp, a soft voice that doesn't project, a monotonous voice that is off-putting, a voice for radio, an interest in the communication field, being paid for how you express yourself, "dead pan" comic genius, dry sense of humour, sophisticated jargon, using old-style cursive writing and avoiding "sms" language, trouble fitting in with peers as the native often does not relate to people their age etc.

Language and learning is a 3rd house/Mercury function as is communication. So Saturn involved there can create delays and/or issues there that may force the individual to either become well versed at Mercury related things early on (due to imposing pressure).

Or the native may sincerely struggle by having learning challenges due to the inability to focus or have ADD. And perhaps the parents/guardians have a relaxed attitude in steering the native to learn, speak, read or write.

The caution you speak of is because of Saturn.Saturn wants to come across authoritative on the subject expressed by Mercury. This is especially true when there is a conjunction/square.

The opposition as well as the square often creates uncertainty on whether the "correct" information is being communicated. And so they may come across self-doubting unless very well-versed with the crowd they are addressing.

I actually find Mercury-Saturn people quite funny. But they can also be melancholic and prone to depression. This especially with the tight opp/square and conj.

And this is because Saturn brings to the mental sphere chronic thoughts of self criticism. These guys are their own worst critic.

My nephew has Saturn in 3rd with Cap on the cusp of the 3rd and he is about 1 year of age.

I am observing him closely to see how he does with communication i.e will it come easy to him or will it be delayed?

He is currently being raised by my Mom(his Grandma) and the nanny who looks after him is also 50 years of age.So here Saturn(elder) in 3rd is accurate as my mother and the nanny are teaching him how to talk (3rd)

His Dad is a manic depressive and so I wonder if he has the genetic predisposition to that? At the time of his birth, Dad was in hospital for a botched suicide attempt.

Wow! This!! So spot on, I was gonna write some stuff but this just nails everything it’s not even needed.

My little brother has his Saturn conjunct mercury fairly close, in Gemini opposing Pluto tightly also. As well as being a cancer sun, with his moon tightly conjunct Uranus, he’s extremely secretive and since he was little has had a very difficult time talking about any kind of troubles or upsets. We have about a 13 year age gap, so I helped raise him until I moved out at 18. Early on he displayed intellectual genius, memorizing complex puzzles, reading early and eventually becoming obsessed with my video games. it took him awhile to become fully mobile and independent. He had a pretty strong stutter growing up, and had to be put in speech lessons, i think it really made him insecure and kids would bully him a lot throughout school (leo Venus opposing aqua Neptune 11h poor thing, just makes my Pluto/mars boil and my horns pop out wanting to protect him). Now as he’s getting older, I think it’s easier for him, but he will still stammer every so often. He has a very funny and clever way with words and when he does feel inclined he’s really able to articulate himself very well. His Uranus makes him contrarian and rebellious with rules at school, but he’s so damn smart it doesn’t even matter. He tested in the top 1% and has been getting college applications left and right. He grumbles about how he’s in a constant state of stress, and Sadly gets very depressed, but still works his butt off and it definitely pays off. There’s certainly a very awkward way about Saturn and anything it touches.
