Constructive obsession= commitment
Destructive obsession= addiction
Passionate obsession= driven/intense
Inappropriate obsession= creeping

The list goes on.

Capricorns are known for commitment; Scorpios are infamous for intensity/drive. Both have drive with propensity for addiction.

However, would it be safe to say that Capricorns tend to obsess about external/material/tangible things while Scorpios obsess about internal/abstract/metaphysical/intangible things and that this is what distinguishes one from the other?

This relates to the tarot meanings: Capricorn is associated with Devil in most decks. Could this be because of the focus on earthly matters just as the Devil is?

On the other hand, Scorpio is represented by Death which is obsession with the internal/metaphysical and a desire to transform/rebirth.

Capricorn are very strategic. This is the angle that I take with how they may be considered "obsessive". The commitment then therein, with their planning.

Although yes, material things are worth considering, but this is so too with Taurus? Perhaps more so even?

I have considered rather then that Capricorn's association with Devil [ie, Saturn (Saturn/Satan)] because of the rulership over time.

I do think it's complex, but, simply put: that time (Saturn) is the element that locks us humans into the material plane. And therefore, away from our eternal-ness. Thus we are enslaved in matter.

That is were the obsessive side comes from.

With these aspects you are suppose to learn about power in relationships, how not to misuse power you may not even be aware you have over others you choose to connect with at a deeper level and how to not give away too much of your power to others you connect with deeply. When you figure this out the obsessive tendencies that come along with these placements/aspects will transmute and start to manifest in a more positive empowering way. With 7th house aspect 8th house stuff there is also a lesson around learning not to OVER-value others and over-focus on others and lose yourself in others. You gain your power back when you realize your worth and start to value yourself more and find a healthy balance between valuing others and valuing yourself, you learn that the most important relationship in your life is the one with yourself and that you have your own back and you will always have yourself. All this ofcourse while you value equally all the different types of connections you have in your life and learn not to overvalue for example romantic love over other connections ect...

I have venus conjunct mars in the 8th and it has been quite a very long journey for me of personal transformation that is all coming to a head this past year with transit pluto now at the very end of my 1H also conjuncting my 2nd house.

I would say that also with sun in Capricorn you don't feel comfortable taking risks at all but with your 7TH house ruler aspecting two generational planets in the 8th house you are been called to take big risks in relationships bc it will help you grow and evolve and eventually set you free as you learn not to live in fear or love with excessive fear. You are been called to confront your fear of loss and learn to enjoy relationships for how ever long they are meant to last without any expectations.
