When I was in elementary school they performed all different types of tests on me the one thing that stood out about me was my ability to read at a college level as a 10yrs old. Then came my teens and I stoped reading as I embraced the web as my direct source of information and my reading ability droped.
Now as an adult I've embraced reading books again because its still a good form of retaining/obtaining information.
We've entered an age were everyone thinks there an expert and using the web as a primary source of information has started to be cloudy and questionable.
At least with books there's still some kind of level of legitimacy on the information.
I will admit I'm somewhat of a cheater thought.
I will first read 50-100 pages then download the .pdf version of the book, set the .pdf to "read aloud" which will have the computer read back the same pages that I just read then repeat the process until I've reached the end of the book.
That way I can get the information both visually after reading it and in memory by having someone read to me.
I can get through a 300-400pg college level science textbook in 1 - 1/2 months by doing this and still be able to retain all the information.
