I have Neptune conjunct IC (in Capricorn). I have always wanted a home to share with those I love, but I've never wanted a traditional family. I don't want a partner (sexual or romantic) nor have I ever wanted kids. I love living in communal type arrangements though, together with family (either biological or found).

A career? Travelling?
It depends how you define family as well. I do not want my own children or to get married. I still love my birth family and especially my nephew.Having your own kids does not (only) mean love and happiness, it first and foremost means a huge amount of responsibility and some people don't want that.

Speaking of journeys, I am going to Crete in August. Chania, in particular. One of the best beaches of the island and among the best of Greece is Elafonissi. Here’s a link with some nice photos and no people in, however, the place is always crowded.

http://www.cretanbeaches.com/en/sea-tourism/west-crete-beaches/elafonissi-beach

And this is the traditional Cretan dance ″Pentozali″. The musician who sings and can’t hold it but stand up and join the dance is Martsakis, one of the most famous Cretan musicians. You will definitely find me and hundreds of others in one of his traditional outdoor feasts taking place during the summer in Crete. We have a word here in Greece that can’t be translated in any language. This word is ″palikari″ and it is used whenever you want to say that someone is a Man, but it is something SO much more than this word! You can only understand it when you come here. Well, these Men dancing here are what we call palikaria! They are holding each other by the shoulders as a declaration of their unbreakable unity. And with every strong and brave hitting of their feet on the floor, they are scaring…Fear. Enjoy…

Not true for all. There is a phenomenon called regretting motherhood and it's not even that uncommon...

I have Saturn [retrograde] in my 4th house. It's trine the ruler of my DSC and square my ASC. I have some Uranian activity in the rest of my chart as well, plus my Moon is in the 10H.

I think all of that energy balances out having such a traditional planet in the 4H. Saturn is so structured and by the book, but I don't really believe in heteronormativity and gender roles, like the woman in the relationship doing all the housework and the man being the sole breadwinner. I do, however, like the classic home set up: Having a nice house, being married, having a joint bank account, and investing in other real estate. My goal is to really capitalize on real estate with my partner.

Also, I don't want children (I'm a Moon-Chiron person) and it bothers me that people often think that having a child 'completes' the picture of a happy home.

I also have Sun and Saturn in 4H but Mars is also in there conjunct my Sun all of them in Pisces, Aquarius Cusps my 4H though.
I can relate here as I have learnt that the "traditional" home isn't always the best [gender roles where the male dominated, restrictive beliefs] but I can understand and respect it in others.

I guess it depends what you mean by "traditional" as it can be different depending on your culture as well as size of family [extended vs nuclear] and what beliefs/principles/values they each hold.

If I had to choose, ideally it would be a peaceful environment which allows interdependence and creativity as well as spiritual development/freedom where we are respectful and harmonic. Perhaps the 2nd house, 5 House , 7 house and Moon sign can also have influence in this?

I have found I am basically home bound more then working out there. Home has never been 'rooted down' to one spot, it is always been on the go. Although I do wish for a simple home of our own surrounded by nature, I also wish to travel rather then be home bound.

ASC in Sag squares both Sun and Mars in Pisces. All 3 planets in my 4h aspects Neptune Capri in 2nd house which conj Uranus Aqua [dominant]. Leo Moon in 9H [Cusp Cancer]

Moon Sextiles Chiron and I live with my mother indefinitely. Though I have had imaginings, I don't want children nor to marry [ I am a romantic so I rather appreciate it in others].

I also don't think you need children to be complete but the same for marriage as well, I have been told I might find someone to marry [ to be happy] and I don't really get why that has to be the only way towards happiness

Though if I ever were to meet a guy who moves me on a deep soul level then..maybe..on a 5% chance perhaps

Interesting - my mom has lived with her mother for most of her life. I have lived away from home but due to needing to save money and the pandemic, I'm currently living with my mom. I have had a love-hate relationship with her; it's complicated. Her Sun falls into my 8H and her Pluto is exactly conjunct my Sun, for example.

It's super frustrating that women are always the target of persuasion and pressure and even bullying about when they'll marry and have kids. I hate that outdated way of seeing womanhood. Being a mother doesn't make you 'complete,' nor does being a father or a parent in general. Only you have the ability to complete yourself.

Though I would like to marry, I would prefer to have a less traditional relationship. Being free to travel on my own, no excessive clinginess (I'm also a Sag rising LOL), of course no children, and having down the line separate work spaces within the house (my own office for my own hobbies) matters.

My grandmother has Sun in fourth house and she's like the overprotective grandmother / overprotective mother with her grandchildren and children. she really cares about her family (and she worries about her family too. she's Capricorn). she is kind of traditional, yes, but like many grandparents and old people. she likes sometimes to tell stories about her youth, past, during the war and after, etc. she had started to make her family tree so she's probably very interested in her origins.

i have sun in the 4th and no i dont want a house and traditional family. maybe when i was a kid, i thought i wanted that (south node in 4th) but reality set in and ive learned that trying to conform to gender roles or anything outdated drives me insane. i am very protective of those in my circle though and very much interested in the history/ancestry of any group i become a part of.

i mean i do appreciate tradition and gender roles but i just cant do it unless its role playing lol.. its complicated i guess.

@oceansofstars:

I can actually understand the love-hate part though I have come to appreciate it with time as I find my relations with the mother very transformative [to my ego] and a [ very difficult] learning process, perhaps yours is too?

My sun [4h] opposes her Pluto [1h] and her sun [6h] squares my Pluto [12h], her Saturn conjuncts my sun.

And Yes it is pretty uncomfortable when the whole marriage thing gets brought up, asked or when they say "when you get married" as if it is already a done deal. It is a tradition that can be too restrictive and repetitive even, especially when pushed.

Yes to all that! Sounds like a dream come true

@arcturus90
Your grandmother sounds Lovely!

When I was younger I actually wished to be like that when I got older [though times have changed]. I am pretty protective of my mother and loved ones. She is also overprotective of me, perhaps it goes either or both ways since it is 4H?

I also enjoy sharing of stories and experiences but of more spiritual and folklore quality.

That’s where she wanted to live: Crete. I looked up my astrology (relocation) there, and it involved my nodes, moon, and Venus, from what I remember. It sounded like a good place for me.

I have mars in Pisces in the 4th, but Aquarius on the cusp. I wanted to be an artist, working from home. I thought I might want to get married, but only if the relationship was both fun, and healthy. Stable. I wanted a flexible schedule, because I am terrible at sticking to one, and I also know that once I’m into something, I work hard. I then come up for air (tea, and food, as well). Children were to be determined. I’m not up for it now, but I loved the kids we looked after, including my little cousins.

I’ve nothing in my 4th and I want a traditional marriage. I believe like what Kani said it could be a cultural thing. I don’t get why so many people these days have kids but don’t get married. This is uncommon in my culture.

Not sure how others define ‘traditional’ but for me, if I’m gonna have kids I prefer to be married. In fact, I generally like the idea of traditional monogamous marriage. I like the idea of having kids but I won’t be a stay-home mom. Independence is important to me. I believe I would enjoy ironing his clothes and cooking for him but I want him to help out too, and a man who can cook is so attractive IMO. 🙂

Aww thank you for responding! Out of curiosity, do you have any planets in Cancer/Leo or in the 4th/5th House?

Yeah, it's uncommon in my culture too! I'm Haitian, haha.

Riight?! What is it with women who reduce their value to that of a baby-mama, rather than a wife, the mother of her husband's children. It's even worse when a man stays with a woman for 5-10 years, has kids with her, yet for some odd reason, still does not commit to her. So weird!!

Got to know someone who has 2 kids with a guy she’s on & off with over 13yrs. Ah… can’t wrap my head around this type of family dynamics. 🤔 Perhaps to some people marriage is a much bigger commitment than having kids? 🤷🏻‍♀️ One friend said because divorce is too expensive.

In my SOP, I’m first a wife, then a mother, and the romantism in me wants to continue being a wife. 😉

lol unfortunately it was the worst year of my life. My father (represented by Jupiter and/or Saturn in the chart) passed away and it set off a massive, horrible chain of events in my life. But honestly my life is good now, because the horror from that time helped me get my sh*t together and so much of what I have now is from what I rebuilt for myself post-Jupiter Return. I hope yours goes much better than mine did truthfully!

Unfortunately I don’t think anyone can control major life events and we don’t always get what we want. But life goes on after having children out of wedlock.People do go on to marry someone else and have that traditional home life with that person.
