As much as I prefer print books in principle, I don't read many of them these days. The good thing about the internet is that you can often find a book you are looking for for free when you can't get it at your local library or afford to buy it.
Because my work is reading/absorption/mentally intensive, I don't much feel like a lot of reading in my down time. So I skim a lot of books. I tend to read more essays online by Charles Eisenstein, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, or reporting on drug/med by Maryanne Demasi, or at madinamerican.com
I've read four books start to finish (that I can remember) the last several years.
- The Keep by Jennifer Eagan (fiction). Fantastic, suspenseful fiction in a new style. You won't see the ending coming.
- The General's Son by Miko Peled (autobiography). Miko's story is fascinating. He is an Israeli-American peace activist born to an Israeli military general father. Great read.
- Utopia Is Creepy by Nicholas Carr. This was an online e-book, but too good to not read. Nicholas has a great writing style for non-fiction and his exposé of big tech hubris and fails are really satisfying.
- JFK and the Unspeakable by James Douglass. I'm only on the first chapter of this one, but I suspect I will find time to read it all the way through. It is very thorough and deeply researched. I highly recommend that every American read it.
The other books I've read all the way through would be poetry books by Oregon poet William Stafford.
