Although the Achaemenid Persian kings ruled over Mesopotamia for the longest time, directly ruling over Babylon until Alexander several hundreds years later. And during that time hellenistic astrology was thriving in Babylon, mixing elements of Persian and Egyptian astrology. The exaltation degrees currently used in western are introduced by Biruni the Persian polymath, who got them from ancient Magi texts and verified they were also used by ancient Greeks (since the Greeks used to copy Persians in science and architecture), and he also noted that this is very different from Vedic exaltation concepts. Astrology existed before Ptolemy, and the Magi are older than Ptolemy. In today's history Biruni seems to be the person credited with exaltation degrees, the topic we're discussing. Hence why I mentioned him. But in general the Greeks and Persians had influences over one another for the majority of ancient history. The Greeks mostly following which makes sense because they were a later civilization. Biruni studied both Ptolemy and Vedic sources but his main source of astrology knowledge was the Magi texts. Due to his extreme precision his practices have been incorporated into western astrology we use today. Someone trying to discredit his work online won't change that fact. Interesting fact about the magi, they were very powerful and part of the council that selected the king and oversaw his actions. Meaning the king could not make major decisions by himself only. I wasn't arguing either. I think we're both trying to communicate the same thing. IP: Logged

And just so you know, ancient Mesopotamia (Babylon) was ruled by Persians for 630 years before Ptolemy was born, and they were already long practicing astrology and exaltations, because they had to oversee the kings' major moves.
