Favorite romantic comedy: Sliding Doors

I remember being impressed with Ricky Gervais' Ghosttown, too. Stranger Than Fiction was good.

Oh, "The Love Guru", baby, even though it was critically panned (critics as usual don't know what they're talking about - I laughed all the way through and in my opinion it was the best 13 GBP I ever spent (yeah, it was expensive tickets in Leicester Square LOL )

I'm a big fan of the Naked Gun series. Every time I watch one of those movies I see another ridiculous thing that I missed before, or maybe just forget. I love Lesley Nelson, and his dead-pan way of delivering the jokes.... and just the sheer stupidity of the jokes. Cracks me right up lol....But you have to look at EVERYTHING in the Naked Gun movies. Some of the jokes are very subtle and hidden in the background, but they are fricken EVERYWHERE !
PS: Love the way OJ Simpson gets the crap kicked out of him all the time too ;p

The funniest movie I have ever seen was called "Partners" with Ryan O'Neil and John Hurt. Hilarious.

Seriously though, I can't pick a favorite. The ones I've seen the most are "Coming to America", "Dumb and Dumber", "Anchorman," and "Dr. Strangelove".

"Hot Fuzz" is a more recent favorite.

What instantly comes to mind is the South Park movie, though I don't know if that counts since it's animated. Normally I don't like vulgar humor (with some notable exceptions), but that movie was just so brilliant in so many ways as well as hilarious.

But normally I prefer comedies like Mean Girls, Shrek 1 & 2, both Charlie's Angels movies (I DO consider them comedy/satire first and foremost, and I suppose it helps that I still haven't seen the original series), and Disney's Freaky Friday (the one with LiLo in it).

And though I didn't care much for Beavis & Butt-head, I DID find Beavis & Butt-head Do America to be hilarious--another exception to the rule of my generally not liking vulgar humor...and add Not Another Teen Movie as another exception. (I suppose you can make a decent case that Charlie's Angels, especially the 2nd one, got pretty vulgar, but those generally aren't the parts that appeal to me.)

In any case, I can watch these movies over & over again (with a few others I'm not mentioning), which I almost never do. Many movies won't get more than 1 viewing from me, and most never get more than 2.

I'm not including "unintentionally funny" (like Lost in Space or the Dungeons & Dragons movie which had me rolling at the hamming it up, or even the one that I laugh more AT it than with it, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation), those that I think went straight to video and/or played only on TV (like Kim Possible's A Sitch In Time) or those where the comedy is strong but secondary (like Stardust).

Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I just love it.

AG, you consider "Sliding Doors" a romantic comedy? The one starring Gwyneth Paltrow, right? Uh, I like this movie too, but I've never thought of it as a comedy...to me, it is more like an experimental drama, about one life with two possibilities. It's quite thought-provoking, actually.

Oh definitely. It's got a lot of witty banter. I've been surprised to learn how many people really like this movie.

I need to check that one out. It looked funny.

That was a gift for you and PA.

MiM has a special meaning for me too. Back when it first came out I saw the promos and (naturally) thought it looked like cr@p.

Then one night someone I had just met returned from seeing it. I asked how she liked it. She said it wasn't her type of movie, adding, "You'd probably like it." If I'd been wearing gloves, I'd have taken one off and slapped her with it! Offending my aesthetic honor like that!

But who knows, maybe she could see things in me that I couldn't and I really would like it! Perhaps one day I'll be stating my love for it in the "confessions" thread.

I forgot one. "Groundhog Day." Must've seen it 10 times.

I also like watching John Candy movies for sentimental reasons. He was my mom's favorite.

I love "Hot Fuzz." I hear "Shaun of the Dead" is even better, but I haven't gotten around to watching that yet.

Groundhog day!!! Oh yea! Otherwise known as "every day at my house!"

Seriously, I love this movie. I make my family watch it on groundhog day every year. I mean what else is there to do on Groundhog day, if you don't live in Puxatawnee??

I also make my family watch "Elf" with Will Farrell, every Christmas Eve. Maybe that should go in the confessional.
