Anyone interested in this topic?

Any Anne Hathaway fans out there?

She is a vegetarian, and yet she successfully keeps it low-profiled. I believe PETA did not include Anne in their candidate list for "The Sexiest Celebrity Vegetarians" about a couple of years ago, because she starred in "The Devil Wears Prada"- mmm, you get the picture.

Around that time, I would read a lot of fashion magazines with cover stories of some of my favorite Hollywood or British female actors. In one of Anne's magazine interviews, when asked how she managed to change her weight for her role "Andie" in "The Devil Wears Prada", since she had to appear chubby first, then trim. Anne replied "There was a really good chef (paraphrasing) on the boat where..." and she never mentioned a single word about her being a vegetarian.

Anne is a Sun Scorpio with Moon in Libra, and Gemini rising. I admire her ability to remain so low-key about her vegetarian diet, and not be used by PETA. Many movie fans might not even know Anne's a vegetarian.

What do you think about Anne Hathaway and her being vegetarian but not high-profiled about it or become a spokeswoman for any of those vegan animal rights groups?

I think she is a smart girl. Bear in mind she's a Scorpio.

I like that she's more involved in what she believes in rather than just being a spokesperson. Nor does she hide it, she just doesn't flaunt it.

IMO, most entertainers are good at entertaining and not thinking & reasoning. It doesn't help that many of them become sheltered from the same reality as most other people (sometimes from a very young age) with special privileges, VIP treatment, wealth & expensive stuff practically thrown at them, personal security & instant police response times, revolving door rehab for many, and the like that the rest of us don't. Throw in the ego that develops from fame (and good bet it was there already if they decided to make themselves the next big name), and a great many of them make fools out of themselves when they espouse political opinions of one sort or another, IMO.

Still, many will imitate them, so I see why politicians, various advocacy groups, and the like will pay for endorsements (I forget the details, but one celebrity was paid several hundred thousand dollars just to wave at a presidential candidate!)

That is to say, I look to entertainers for entertainment, not for what to think or believe or endorse. When they make a very big deal out of their views, I generally shrug it off and ignore it (and wonder if they really believe it or are just making extra money by pretending to or even just following a fad), save in the very rare cases where they can actually make an intelligent & reasoned case for why they believe as they do.

Anne Hathaway seems much more low key, and I've liked some of her interviews. She's an exception to the rule.

Maybe vegetarianism is not such a big deal as it once was?

Take a look at the Kate Bush/Delia Smith video on Youtube (from the early 80s). Fab to watch as Kate explains her vegetarian lifestyle in that kooky little voice!!

Lyra,

Maybe, maybe not. I see that you are from London, UK? Britain is the birth place for both the first vegetarian society and the first vegan society on the planet. VIVA! and VVF (Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation, sister group of VIVA!) are also based in the UK. Do you come across with promotional activities about vegetarianism a lot? Or not quite?

Take Thames Valley Vegans and Vegetarians for example- the co-founders, Stephen Fenwick-Paul and Sophie Fenwick-Paul, a married couple, they were both very dedicated to veganism when I met them, and yet, they were not the fanatic type. At the WOMAD Festival five years ago, as we volunteers for the TVV stand were to be recruited- so to speak- Sophie emphasized to us that "Do not wear anything with a message like 'Meat Is Murder' on your shift at the stand...there used to be a woman who did so, and..." Sophie also advised us that if no vegan dish were available when we dined out (esp with friends or family), choose the vegetarian option instead. I admire Sophie and Stephen for their sensible approache for promoting veganism and vegetarianism.

That was a very insightful comment from you. I perceive a certain entertainers as using such vegan animal rights groups to promote their fame, while letting themselves to be used by such groups- in short, they used one another. That is just not so cool at all. Still, their endorsement seems to bring about paradoxical results- perhaps a few were enlightened; while others find it seedy.
Yet there are still others who were provoked even more, and hate all vegetarians and vegans- that's not fantasy. That's fact- unfortunately.

Dervish, you said:

Yeah, I feel the same way, too. How ironic- PINK is a PETA spokeswoman, and have always been listed as one of PETA's annual "sexiet celebrity vegetarians" candidate. According to PETA, PINK is a vegetarian. IVU (The International Vegetarian Union) says she eats meat, and IVU is the most reliable source to date.

Also, among VIVA! UK's celebrity advocates is British actor Joanna Lumley. I've watched how she spoke against factory farming, how bad it was in Britain for the animals, and how she loved being a vegetarian- yet, according to IVU, Lumley is NOT a vegetarian.

Just ironic, pathetic, and insincere. Deceptive. Double-talk. Lies. Liars.

Precisely how I feel. Anne is indeed an exception to the rule. IMO, she has great potential, talent, and a successful career ahead of her- she knows the art of being humble. She's not big-headed like Scarlet Johansson, and not eccentric and immature like Natalie Portman. Anne is one of the best Hollywood actors in the youngest adult generation. I think she is wiser beyond her age.

Kate was never afraid to speak up,
especially about issues that matter.

Good for her.

"Invincible"
Pat Benatar

This bloody road remains a mystery
This sudden darkness fills the air
What are we waiting for?
Won't anybody help us?
What are we waiting for?

We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible

This shattered dream you cannot justify
We're gonna scream until were satisified
What are we running for?
We've got the right to be angry
What are we running for?
When there's no where we can run to anymore

We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible

And with the power of conviction
There is no sacrifice
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible

Won't anybody help us?
What are we running for?
When there's nowhere,
nowhere we can run to anymore

We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible

And with the power of conviction
There is no sacrifice
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible

Kate Bush Is Not A Vegetarian, Probably Never Has Been; She Eats Fish And Has Been Eating Fish Since Decades Ago- According To The International Vegetarian Union

WARNING:

Please refrain from clicking on the link provided in the post that procedes this one. Unless you want to form strong stereotypical preconceptions toward vegans and vegetarians, and become a vegetarian hater

There are already MORE than enough vegan haters and vegetarian haters out there.

Resist the temptation of ever clicking on the link in the proceding post. If you are genuinely interested in how factory-farmed animals are treated, or any related issues, please visit the IVU's website instead:

No scare tactics or psychological traumatization should ever be applied by anyone who intends to promote veganism or vegetarianism. Unless such people intends to create more vegetarian haters, or they simply just cannot see.
