With the slashing of prices for goods, one would expect some services to follow suit. Some have.

When I researched internet fees in the past, cable DSL seemed the way to go. But too expensive. I live in an area where a fiber optic network was laid years ago. Competition has brought many new players to the field; there is a catch though. one single co. owns those tiny cables.

I also found that my dial up service reduced basic service price eons ago to $10....while I stupidly have been paying full price...$25!

The plans for FIOS, Cable, and satellite, offer great start up deals---then hike sharply. Starting at $29, then going to the regular rate which is around $42 for many of them.

So, what do you pay? Interested.

You aussies, brits, continent...where ever, if you would post a quick one I would appreciate any reply, thanks in advance.

30 USD= 18.3 GBP
30 USD= 34.3 AUD
30 USD= 20 EURO
30 USD= 32 CAD (canadian)

Free!
My brother's office is paying for it. He works in IT for an oil and gas company.
The bill is 50 USD per month.
We are letting 5 neighbors connect to our internet for free.

free till the end of the month (i also have a generous neighbour, but he's moving away in a week! sniff). after that: i dunno! i think high speed is ridiculously expensive (i think all three providers around here are in the 40 dollars canadian range). is dialup any better than it was 10 years ago?

$30 a month, but it's not that good (cheapest, too, without going back to dial up).

But I'd hate to go back to dial up, especially as I like watching videos and the like. But even now I still can't run HD videos, not even if I let them fully load first before playing them (it just keeps freezing over & over again). But no problems with HQ vids.

Well it sounds like wireless *sharing* is the least expensive option

I am far too paranoid to go wireless. It simply makes you more vulnerable imo. Same goes for wireless phones v land line.

RE: Improvement of dial-up technology. Laughs hard
No vids other than 1 mb...ok that is an exaggeration. But I will say if I am downloading something. Anything- I cannot surf with impunity. Low tech LL pages will often take close to two minutes to refresh. the average being around 1 min.

I have stubbornly kept a tube vid playing [buffering every 3 sec's mind you] out of sheer determination. One was an Ashley MacIssac.

Spending close to 400 a year for internet doesn't sound like so much, a dollar a day.

And half of all the goodies on my new comp could actually be utilized.

Hi LEXX: I hear your frownie. When you think of the profit margin it is ridiculous. Unfortunately with web content the way it is.. [and increasingly] becoming more visual, with embedded code, even a top of the line machine is severely hampered.

I could pay $10- for dial up and continue as I have. Twice that price. $20 sounds more reasonable than 3 or 4 X the price. Maybe with all of the *roamers* sharing, the companies keep those prices in line for the lost revenue. Shrugs. Who knows. Then you have the existing monopoly on the Optics themselves.

It is somewhat of a requirement now [high-speed] as opposed to a luxury.

Just for grins I opened my wireless to check a network. I have 7 networks in range. 5 secured. I could go *free* pretty easy.
Miss paranoid wont do that though.

woah city,

Who's your service provider? in the West.

Rogers is a thief.

We use to be on Rogers Hi-Speed Extreme, its $50 a month but went down to $40 for Rogers Hi-Speed medium.

$30 just gets Rogers light, just slightly faster then dialup.
