I'm just curious.

Do they seem like low maintenance pets (like fish)? Do they "look cool" (like I guess some like tarantulas, only this would be more the "dinosaur lovers" rather than "creepy crawly lovers")? Are they exotic & unusual?

Or is there something else there...

Do those who love lizards as pets love fish, birds, and/or mammals as pets, too?

I'm just curious.

Sorry, I have a cat. I like stroking her furry belly, she likes having someone warm to sit on that feeds her milk and looks impressed when she brings home decapitated mice.

Lizards, well, I think they look quite attractive. Maybe they feel warm and smooth. I don't know, I've never picked one up. I could happily spend time hanging out with lizards, but I'd worry about looking after them properly, this isn't exactly their native habitat and it can get quite chilly in winter.

I would think lizards and such are higher maintenance? But this is only because I prefer cats, and I'm used to them
I love snakes... but oh boy! The attention they require!

I can see the attracton of lizards, I think they're beautiful. But I don't want a pet that you have to keep in a cage, or aviary or tank. I don't think it's fair on the animal.

Lizards aren't really low maintenance - that's the only reason I don't have one yet. I'd LOVE to have one. In fact, I was oggling them at the pet store just last week.

I have a fascination / love for lizards, though. I can't explain it. Lizards and frogs. **love!**

I like snakes, too, but they are not quite so cute and they usually want to be fed mice which I couldn't do.

If I were forced at gunpoint to adopt a pet a lizard is precisely what I'd get. Not only is it low maintenance and inexpensive, but they have no means of whining to you, which is delightful. Plus, it's fun to watch them eat bugs.

MY DAD is the "Lizard King", he says he loves them because they look so prehistoric and it makes him feel like he is tied to the ancient world while living in this one. (okay dad, whatever you say)

Anyway, he lives in Florida, and he built a big pen for them on the covered patio. He feeds them lettuce and celery and stuff like that, plus special food.

They are cool to look at.
I like reptiles too. Especially snakes.
But I need a cuddly pet.

He has a tarantula, like the fifth one since I've been born.

Some cats, and two pit bulls.

Umm, he is a little obsessed with animals.
He doesn't have any birds (I have two) only, and I mean ONLY because he's allergic to feathers, otherwise, there would be an aviary over there too.

I definitely want a cat one day and could see myself becoming a "cat lady" (though I mean to have only one--probably won't work out that way though).

'Course if I live on a farm, I'll need barn cats, too, but that's different (I was close to the barn cats on my Granny's farm, though).

I'm not particularly fond of dogs, but they're useful enough that I might get one or more anyway, especially if I'm on a farm. As long as they don't harass the other animals and/or make constant ear assaulting yaps, I can like them.

Don't see myself into birds at all, though free ranging chickens and turkeys are ok on farmland, and useful for culling ticks & leaving eggs (well, turkeys aren't that good for eggs, but that's ok by me).

I'm not much for fish in a tank, though I might make an exception for Oscars because I like their excitement when they recognize their feeders (though the Oscars I saw were all picking on one which was sad to watch). But I'd mainly be getting a fish tank for the cat's entertainment (just so long as he can't actually get at them).

And I just recently thought of one day getting an iguana. It would have to be big enough so as not to be seen as prey by the cat, of course (at least well protected until big enough). But I only recently thought of this. I've never been into lizards.

I've heard iguanas are low maintenance. Basically, they'll happily sit on your lap or whatever because they like the warmth, but if you don't feel like a lizard on you, they content to be elsewhere. If you leave for a long weekend, you just make sure they have enough food & water because they won't gorge themselves like a cat or dog will. In a pinch, you can even leave salad for iguanas. I do hear they like to roam, but as long as you're not in a really small place, that shouldn't be that big of a problem.

But I have no idea what their bathroom habits are like, which could change the definition around for me. Also, if they mark territory (especially with their sharp claws, but even spraying is bad enough).

I miss my sweet 28 pound 6 ft. iguana.
She was so gentle. She ate cat food, and fresh flowers. She loved chamber music and would sway to it.
She loved to be sang to, especially lullabies.
I took her for walkies on a leash.
She loved the kiddie pool or soaking in the bathtub.
The zoos were impressed with her because she was healthier than theirs. Seems they were using heat rocks. Very bad for iguanas. Heat lamps with a mesh barrier are best.
She was about 12 years old when she died.
I had bought her from a pet shop, but she was an abused rescue animal. Poor dear had arthritis from the broken bones and broken jaw her previous owners had inflicted upon her.
She was a beautiful grey/blue/with traces of pale green. Beautiful golden round pupils eyes.
I miss my sweet blue lady lizard.

P.S.
They can hurt you or kill your small pets if startled. The tail is very very dangerous and strong, and has a razor ridge.
It can leave serious scratches or even a gash.
They defecate like birds. They can learn to go in one place but make quite a mess.
Corncob litter or alfalfa pellets make good (and edible) bedding/litter for them.
I had two other ones besides her (Lady Blue)

I had 7 indoor cats at the same time, a house rabbit, a long haired guinea pig, birds, fish, and outside a 3/4 wolf and two Samoyeds, a tame skunk, and 17 more cats.

i don't really see the point of lizards as pets. they are ugly

I saw a cute lizard today standing tall at the highest point of the stump. It was interestingly dark colored. Just a small one, though. Maybe five inches.
