quote: I'm not always tuned in to fashion pronouncements but when I heard the latest statement from Karl Lagerfeld, I almost dropped my bacon butty. The designer for Chanel said that people who complain about skinny models in fashion are just ridiculous "fat mummies". "These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly," he told the magazine.

Erm, to each their own? I really think it doesn't matter what size you wear so long as 1) you're healthy and 2) you're happy and 3) your size is normal and natural for you as an individual. I've known some women whose structure is so small that a size 2 is what they wear ... not through starvation or fads or whatever. They're just tiny. Then there are other women who, regardless of lifestyle, end up in the double digits. But I think both extremes tend to hate on each other too much. How about beauty in diversity? IP: Logged |

I spelt that wrong, doughnut? I normally eat porridge, because it is easier to spell. The press irritates me with their constant stories about bodies, male and female. Here is a picture of a film star with cellulite, and all that. PeaceAngel must be studying hard today. I need distraction from work I am supposed to be doing. IP: Logged |

I don't think size 0 women are ugly.I think the fact that *most* models have to starve themselves, have an eating disorder and have to be severely underweight in order to be attractive to the fashion industry - is ugly. And I know a plethora of men that will agree with me. There are EXTREMELY (if any) natural size 0's among women that are 5'10". I'm 5'10" and my prom dress was a size 3 and I was SKINNY skinny skinny at 125 pounds.

She was sick in bed. Good to see that Mr Fashion Flop is isolating more buyers of his products with these comments in an already dwindling marketplace for needless fashion. IP: Logged |

My concern is that a man who presents himself like this to the world is dressing anyone else. I'd be more inclined to pay attention to him if he firstly learnt to dress himself. IP: Logged |

I overheard guys talking at the fitness center I go to...they hated the skinny models because there was little to no feminine shape, and some of those with short hair looked more like little boys in women's clothing than women.Their proclamation was that these people who chose the models they do to wear their clothes were gay who couldn't stand to see women in their natural form and this was as close as they could get to dressing up boys as girls. As for me, I just see it as one more tactic to make women feel sick so as to need their "snake oil." My mom was a model and she explained how it worked: nearly impossibly enhanced looks with just a splash of a common cosmetic and pix taken and then that splash of cosmetic was sold as something that could make women just as beautiful and glamorous if they bought it. Naturally, the fashion industry does NOT want women (or men either) to feel secure in how they look, as that would mean an unacceptable loss of profits of their snake oils. IP: Logged |

DervishThat makes sense. It's all about the bottom line. Good point. They want people to feel insecure about their looks, and then offer feel-good beauty products - their products. I've heard similar things about really really thin women from men. Not appealing. And the short hair. I must admit, I really do like short hair on women. Think Audrey Hepburn and Isabella Rossellini. Beautiful looking women (to me, anyhow). I love the way it brings out a woman's face and features. I have short hair, so I'm partial to it - but many men comment that they don't like it and women should have long hair - irrespective of how it actually looks or suits the woman. Maybe men are just as susceptible to the whole glorified and sexualised image of how women should look as much as women? IP: Logged |
