The real tasteless viewing, imho, would be that whole CSI breed of shows. I guess they're pretty popular with the viewers because there's dozens of those type of shows now following suit. Every episode, somebody's niece or grandchild is getting raped and skinned alive or something like that, complete with true-to-life autopsy footage, discussion of semen deposits along the torn vaginal walls, and all the rest of it. Why are these shows so popular, anyway? At least when you watch a movie like Silence of The Lambs its well-done, and the intelligence that goes into the script, direction, and acting makes up for the sordidness of the themes. A decent film like that, once in a while, seems relatively healthy. But these shows are just recycled trash, and some people watch them every night. Seriously, when did it become more PC to showcase children and grandmothers being gang-raped, than to show a happily married gay couple? Then there are these shows that celebrate obscene wealth, or hoarding. Talk about tasteless. But people are still up-in-arms about sexual preference? What is their Bible teaching them, lol? welcome back, wheels.

Just thought I should add (as it came to mind after posting this), one of the men commenting on the news is well-known here as an ex-policeman and now politician. He said of the queer-bashing escalation, that though the impression is often of and older generation not fully reconciled to gay culture, it is actually often young men perpeturating these crimes. He mentioned 'gay' being used as an insult by teenagers. In my view, this starts off in the playground. The clamp put on teachers promoting gay as being an acceptable lifestyle does not help. Well, the rules don't apply in my house. Gay is Uncle X and Uncle Y, etc, explanation, it is not an insult. The other one I don't accept is 'girl' or 'woman' as insult for a boy. "My friends say I'm a girl because, am I?" etc, no, you're not that good yet but keep trying, is my standard response. The ex-policeman is gay, which is why he was called onto the panel. It winds me up, this, actually. 'Such an old woman', 'big girls' blouse', 'screamed like a girl', acted like a girl', etc. IP: Logged |

and visa versa. To use femininity or masculinity as a derogatory term would mean that femininity and masculinity are intrinsically bad/wrong/perverted, and we all know that they are not. Masculinity and femininity are just what they are. To pervert that doesn't sit well with me either. IP: Logged |

I know what it's like to be called "fag","faggot" because of feminine features.A few days ago before I got in a fight with 4 guys, I was called a "faggot". One of the guys that I got in a fight with was him. I couldn't take crap any more, and so I got into fight and went crazy on them. That was when I was in 11th grade in high school. That happened in March. I have been told "You sound like a b-tch" because of my voice.
That's not something that I can help. That's from the coordination issues. I did have speech therapy in special education class so I can talk adequately. it also can be from having high estrogen levels confirmed by blood hormone testing. Those experiences help to empathize with what gays go through and to believe in gay rights. I am for gay rights just like I am women's rights. I voted against Proposition 8 that banned gay marriage in California. I have some relatives that are gay including a male stepcousin who has HIV. I also had landlord/roommate that was gay and had HIV. I didn't think it was a big deal. He and I slept in different rooms. I found it interesting that he and I were both in the military and have Virgo Ascendant, Moon in Pisces aspecting Neptune. We were both diagnosed bipolar. He and I discussed if maybe highly emotional, sensitive men tend to be misdiagnosed bipolar. when I was a kid,I was given a hard time for being born in San Francisco which is known for having a lot of gays. The whole point of my being born in San Francisco with Sun conjunct South Eris Node is to be tolerant of diversity. I was born from an interracial black/white relationship. That wasn't common in 1971 when I was born. It was only 4 years after all anti-miscegenation laws in USA were abolished. I feel that gay marriage bans are no different from interracial marriage bans. Mildred Loving(of Loving vs. Virginia Supreme Court ruling that led to the abolishment of anti-miscegenation laws in USA) supports gay marriage. Corretta Scott King (the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr) said that gay marriage issue is a civil rights issue.
I don't get why a lot of African Americans are homophobic any way when they are minorities themselves. In my opinion, I believe that they should be able to empathize with gay people to some degree. Raymond IP: Logged |

My Mother always said that she thinks that people who are major homophobes are like that because they fear the part of their psyche that may be attracted to the same sex. You know the "Me thinks - protest too much kinda thing.IP: Logged |

ps: i should add that i feel secure when i walk in the street and i hear men talking, cause i know i would be able to defend myself if necessary. obviously, it's easier in a country where there is no guns and homophobic insults are punished by the law; however, i like myself as i am, and nobody can make me feel ashamed. I'm sickened by the initial post, and this, too: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h00xc9pigMisvuJ08uARa2FR8gQgD9BKMGOO1 "The alleged gang rape and beating Saturday night at Richmond High School have rattled the city of about 120,000 in the San Francisco Bay area. Police believe as many as 10 people ranging in age from 15 to mid-20s attacked the girl for more than two hours in a dimly lit area. As many as two dozen people witnessed the rape without notifying police." IP: Logged |
