Hairdressers never give me the style I want!

Even when I print a picture off the internet AND add arrows AND label parts of the style AND tell the hairdresser to use clippers on the back, they NEVER listen.

Is it a hairdresser thing? Or a Gold Coast thing?

Fabulous!! I'll use Donald's pic for next time. I was hoping to capture his look - and THAT pic is THE pic to use.

My hairdresser is an incompetant arse and makes me look like an afghan hound.

My hairdresser is me.

Yes, they are incapable of making you look like the pic, that is for sure. My last request for a "trim" ended me with 4 inches less hair. AND the unfortunate nickname of "Gilda." That would be Gilda Radner from SNL. You see, when one has thick curly hair, you cannot wear it above your shoulders or it poufs in a most unfortunate way.

I became my own hair stylist. Which is sensible since I did go to school for it (over 20 yrs ago) although, I don'tknow what I was thinking the last time I visited me for a shape up, because I decided to give me some bangs without really thinking it through, and I ended up looking like Joey Ramone. Thank God nobody called me that, I just dubbed my own self before they could think of it.

My hair is thick too GW. And curly, esp in this humidity (although I've learned how to wear my hair so it sits in place.

Yesterday's hairdresser mentioned how thick my hair was and still cut it like it was thin. Same script, same habit, same routine.....

I really need to go back today and get them to fix it - lol

I cut my own hair, too. Just chop off the ends a bit every now and then.

I cut my own too, ladies. I put it in a ponytail, hold it straight up and chop. Turns into layers! Ahmazying!! LOL.. of course if I went to a proper hairdresser, they would flip at how uneven it us, but we do what we can on a dime, now don't we?

Cutting your own is the best! First, you need a style that can just grow. I had the same style for 12 years. I would cut my fringe very month, or so, and let my hair continue to grow - easy, simple AND cheap!!

This heat and humidity is making my scalp itch - sorry for the details (is the TMI?).

So, I thought I would treat myself to a short sytle to survive this heat.

Nothing is ever straight-forward!!! LOL

Never TMI in my opinion. SCALPICIN is the best thing ever for itchy heads. You spray it wherever your itchy, and it immediately cools the itch and STOPS it, best thing, I tell you!!

Ahh yes, the pony tail layer cut.

Tip~ The shorter you want the front layers the closer to the front of your head your bring your ponytail, and reversal of course for longer layers.

Koi - you don't even know how much I feel you LOL

My grudge with hairdressers began a long time ago and has lasted throughout the years. I tell them exactly what I'd like - I come in armed with photos of the hairstyle (from all angles) LOL - and show them.. and explaainn God..

And I have to fake pleasantry - because if you're a bi%ch to them, then they seriously mess things up.

I was complaining about it to one of my friends and she said: "Oh I like what they do.. I like that they give me advice on my hair - because I never know exactly what I want."

I looked at her for about two minutes in utter disbelief, before I could muster some mumbling about how shocked I am at what she had just said.

I know exactly what I want. Half the time they try to explain to me why I can't do it or why I'll need several appointments to do it - typical money grabbing w&%$%^#@!!

Ok apologies to anyone who is a hairdresser. Yes I do know - you're not *all* like that.

:edit: and the talking, the incessant, talking - omg do I really need to know about your auntie who got pregnant with the mail man? LOL

What is it with people who don't listen!!!!

How much easier can you make it?

I will go in with an A3 photo of a preferred style, marked out with arrows and labels pointing out my cowlick, my curl and my crown. I will state that, yes, my hair is thick - please don't cut it like it's thin, and yes it down have a wave through it. Yes, it does need a clipper on the back to stop it from growing out like a duck's tail.

I will then ask them to sign a disclosure:

*** I have been shown the A3 diagram

*** I understand that your hair is unique with volume and wave

*** I will NOT use thinning scissors or a razor

*** I have listened to your advice. Afterall, it is you hair and you would know the finer details.

*** When you say "use clippers", I will use clippers.

*** I will stop incessant chatting and ask if I am the right track.

What more can we do????

Thank GypseeWind - a dermatologist put me onto Selsun Blue - It's not cheap, but I use it every 2-3 washes.

Why am I such high maintenance? How would I have survived in the middle ages?

That's funny that there are a few of us who do our own. That's cool. I have a pixie cut. I was charged $35 last time I went to a hairdresser. I thought that was ridiculous for that style.
