I've got yet another reminder that a "Steph Williams" has invited me to Facebook nearly a year ago. I have no idea who this is. Is it anyone here? Also, I wonder if Facebook just spams people, and so this invite is a lie. If so, why? What does Facebook get out of it? More money for advertisement because it's assumed more people will be exposed to it? I once accepted an invite to some board once just to ask whoever invited me who he was & how he knew me and why he invited me (and if he knew he'd invited me) and he NEVER answered me, despite repeated polite inquiries. It really ticked me off. I have no plans to be doing it again. As for Facebook & MySpace, I'll occasionally get on one to like follow a band or see someone I know out of curiosity, but both really slows my computer down, so I avoid them. Even if I didn't, I doubt I'd have time to keep up with it right. The drama & pseudo-popularity (get as many friends as possible as each one is worth a point) games I've heard of has encouraged me to stay out, too. The library I go to has also banned people from visiting these sites because both of them have messed up their computers hardcore with viruses too many times, which also makes me wary of it. Still, I'm curious who Steph Williams is and/or if she's even aware that she sent me an invite or if it was some spambot Facebook uses to send out random invites (which would really tick me off for multiple reasons if Facebook used my account as a spambot). Dervish - I asked someone who they were as well and they replied in a really "upset" self-victimizing tone - "how could I not remember him" etc.Weird We didn't know each other very well.. Maybe that person got offended or embarrassed that you didn't remember them - or maybe they didn't know you and were just adding random people to boost their friend count (some individuals are really obsessed with appearing popular) IP: Logged |

LOL.. I get people who are friends of friends who send me invites. I think that's wierd. Then they hit on me. So now I send them an email asking if I know them. I don't care if they get offended.. if they can't understand my reason for asking then screw them!

Hi Dervish;Do any of your friends play Mafia Wars or Vampire Wars? I ask this because I have a friend who is HUGELY into the vampire game. As soon as I joined FB, he friend requested me. I accepted with no issue because he and I went to school together. After that I started getting requests from people whom I didn't recognize. I didn't think much of it because I'm terrible with names, and have burned many brain cells in my life, anyway.... Turns out they were HIS friends, sort of like vulturing over his list because in those particular games, you need to get as many people as possible to level up. Some people are REALLY into them. So, it could be something as simple as that. Just people trolling for more friends to add because of their games. I don't necessarily mind that all that much, but, I prefer that if they request me they say, in a message, RE: Vamp wars, or something like that, so I don't feel like an idiot wondering who the heck this person is. Also, for some people, it's like a competition to see who can get the most freinds, like getting high score on a computer game or something. If you click on their profile and look at how many freinds they have it's probably in the several hundreds or something. You're another "point", and that's all. sometimes...just saying.IP: Logged | |
