Apparently the way a person sleeps is an indicator in personality, don't ask me HOW, I just took the Dr. Phil personality test, and it was one of the questions.I sleep in the fetal position, starting out on my left side. Sleeping is a feat in engineering for me. I have 11 pillows on my bed. I have to sleep with 3 under my head, one between my knees (my bones cannot touch each other, or there will be no sleeping), one pillow I hold like a person, and another one if front of my stomach. Still, I wake up every 30-45 minutes per night. And what are your conditions for sleeping? I have to have noise. So either the tv is on, or I have an Ipod playing. Light is not optional. I can either sleep with the lights on, or a night light on, but never in complete darkness. Clothing has to be soft. A tshirt and boxers in the summer. A long sleeved tshirt and pajama bottoms in the winter. But no socks!!! I cannot sleep with anything on my feet. And finally, do you sleep alone? With pets? Do you ever have stuffed piled on your bed? I sleep with both dogs, and any one of my 3 children who may happen to fall asleep there. I am very particular about the fabric and cleanliness of my sheets and blankets, but yet, I can still sleep with books, paperwork, tissue box, etc. on the bed and it doesn't bother me. Oh, and do you move around alot? I switch from left side to right side all night long. I can no longer sleep on my back or my stomach (which used to be my fave) because both positions hurt my back too much. IP: Logged |

Nice thread!Like you I sleep on my left hand side in the foetal position and have significantly more eye-wrinkles on that side than on the other! But I recently trained myself to sleep on my back, because I have a habit of putting my fists underneath my chin and it has led to cysts growing on my wrists (ouchie). I don't use a pillow if the pillow has sponge in it, I'd rather go without. I use one down pillow if I'm at my place. I can't sleep without earplugs as the tiniest noise wakes me up. I can sleep with the lights on, that doesn't bother me. I love falling asleep in front of the TV. TV noise doesn't bother me, it's little repetitive noises. If I'm at Pisces' we sleep on very thin yoga mats on the floor. It's fine. At mine I sleep on a futon mattress. Don't like springs. He also turned me on to Hungarian goose-down duvets and Egyptian cotton. Everything else feels rough, and I like the crinkly sound that the duvet makes. I can't sleep with anything around my waist as it is very sensitive, so either I wear nothing, or a nightdress, but Pisces has one of those djellaba thingies that makes me look like a Jedi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellaba I'm with you on the bones touching bones thing, can't bear it! Ditto to just about everything you said, Gypsee. I'm a light sleeper, surrounded by dogs (and the occasional cat that braves the bed), books - and the laptop, when it worked, and I'd been watching something on there. The TV is usually on low, providing a little noise and some light (sometimes a lamp, or the hallway light, as well). The only time you'll find me in complete darkness, is when I've fallen asleep before the sun set. Soft clothing, no socks, and a small heater in the winter (fan, in the summer). I'll usually fall asleep on my left or right side, curled up, and end up on my stomach or my back. last night, I sank into a large couch cushion that I'd moved into the kitchen, so that I could curl up next to my cat (who will be seventeen in March, and now sticks to the kitchen). I took one of the heaters in there for him, and he loved that, as well as snuggling with me. I've missed him, so will be taking whatever I'm working on, to the kitchen, whenever I can. (*edited. I also love lying on my back, with a cushion under my knees. If I start out that way, though, I usually end up turning over, after a few hours.) IP: Logged |

i am in a different club!! though i know what you mean about the bones touching, gypsee, which is part of the reason i mostly don't sleep on my side anymore!i am most often asleep as my head hits the pillows. a have a couple but usually only use one, very soft one, and sleep mostly on my back, often knees up (which is good for your core muscles' relaxation by the way, but just what i do)...i usually wake up about 3 or 4 in the morning, great time for creative reception! but otherwise i sleep like the proverbial log and wake up just before my alarm (if i set one, otherwise my cat gets me up). Being both physically disabled and having Narcolepsy, entering REM in seconds....well my sleep patterns are weird to say the least. I prefer silence. My partner has a sound machine. I detest it. My favorite cat sleeps with me and so does my partner. So I get spooned and cuddled alot. Not always a comfortable thing, but emotionally it is wonderful! I cannot usually choose my physical position for sleep but must go by which part of my body requires being in a certain way or not. In my pre-disabled youth, I alternated betwixt being a face down or fetal position sleeper. Usually cannot stand covered feet. Lots of different sizes of pillows to move about to get comfortable as the night goes on. I rarely sleep longer than a half hour. Most often 10 to 20 minutes sleep, then wake, sometimes get up, sometimes just go to sleep again quick and continue to dream where I left off. Clothing or not, makes little to no difference. Prefer floor sleeping but we have beneficial house centipedes, who like to scurry about. So no floor or mat sleeping here. I miss it. Really never liked most beds. I often fall asleep sitting and even standing for a few seconds or minutes. Can be dangerous under certain conditions. Usually I get a warning though. My dreams are exceptionally vivid. I love sleeping whilst floating on still or gently moving water.------------------ Everyone is a teacher... Everyone is a student... Learning is eternal. }><}}(*> IP: Logged |

And I thought I slept normal but I'm way different.I start out sleeping on my right side. I have always slept on the very edge of the bed with my right arm hanging over the side of the bed. My left arm is wrapped around a big ball shaped pillow with those little foam balls inside it. When I was younger, I'd sleep with a teddy bear or something like that. I'm going to have to trade that ball pillow in because it has a hole in it and I've been waking up with little balls all over my bed. I have to admit.. if my pillow isn't available, I'll grab one of my son's teddy bears lol. I only have 1 pillow on my bed. I have to have silence while sleeping. I can't sleep with the TV on or lights on either. It has to be completely dark, with no noise. Clothing is best when it's minimal. Like a big night shirt or a long silky gown. Can't be anything bulky. And I'm the same about the no socks rule. I take it a step beyond. I kick the blankets off my feet too. As far as having anything on the bed... I have a queen size bed, so plenty of room. Sometimes my son gets in bed with me if he has a bad dream... but I think he just says that sometimes as an excuse to get in bed with me. He likes my bed, it's a pillow top. But he moves around a lot in his sleep and he talks in his sleep, so when he's in bed with me I have a harder time sleeping. I do switch sides a lot at night, but the position is the same. One arm hanging out and one grabbing on to my "pillow". And my legs can't touch. So I have one leg straight and one bent.. I can't sleep on my back because I get heartburn very easy now days. IP: Logged |

I sleep diagonally on my bed for some reason. Love to be surrounded by pillows and blankets. You can usually find books in my bed too. No pets though - they keep me up. I love total silence and darkness but can also sleep with the TV on. It depends really. The only recurring theme is that I like to change it up. LOL.IP: Logged |

I see you deleted your question but I replied anyhow. Yin quote: LEXX, this is off-topic but I have been wondering - do you have a Sag with Libra Moon and Aqua Rising in your immediate surroundings that you can think of? How do you get along?
Hmmmmmmm...not that I can think of. I do not get out much due to being disabled, and have few offline friends. (I use to have many more friends, but most of them have passed away over the years) I do not have any offline close or best friends any longer except for my partner. Many casual ones, who are actually his friends, not truly mine, but nothing more. No, no one with those placements. ------------------ Everyone is a teacher... Everyone is a student... I can't sleep with anybody apart from my dog! Foetal position, laptop, books, mike, pen and paper if I was doing calculations before falling asleep. I sleep like a log with a drink in me or I don't sleep till 4 am without. Nobody can sleep with me (apart from my dog) cause I grind my teeth really loud. Dog doesn't mind cause he snores like a lorry! IP: Logged |

LOL!Last night my daughter asked me if she could sleep in "my office." The bed had my laptop, books, charts, tissues, cigarettes & ashtray, some medical paper work I'm supposed to be filling out. My bed is a pillow top too. A $1,200 mattress, no wonder every one wants to sleep with me. Oh, and the pillow that touches my face has to be a feather pillow. Hate the foam ones. I've done the feet out of the bed thing too, WinkAway. Starkiss, my dentist said I grind my teeth so bad in my sleep that some of the nerves are exposed. He wanted to fit me for this weird contraption that keeps you from doing that. Yeah, like I need another uncomfortable thing to keep me from sleeping. WinkAway, doesn't your dangling arm fall asleep? I also get these weird leg cramp things, my legs are always twitching. My son has this too, so I have to keep moving them. My insurance doesn't cover meds for RLS, so, I'm stuck with that one. Doctors have discovered a link between Restless Leg Syndrome & iron deficiency. I take spirulina when my legs get like that & it goes away.

LOL PA!! Isn't it funny how particular people are about the way they sleep?? I'm easy I think. I used to be a belly sleeper until about month 5 of my pregnancy. I haven't been able to go back to it post baby because it hurts my back so I sleep on my left side with a pillow between my legs (bony a$$ knees give me bruises when they rub together)or on my back with a pillow under my knees. (this is best for your low back for your knees to be elevated, thank you massage therapy school). I use one pillow under my head and sleep on flannel sheets with one comforter. With light, without, tv on or off, noise, no noise, I can sleep through anything. Thankfully, my little girl is the same way. When she sleeps with me though, I do wake up a lot to make sure I'm not crushing her. IP: Logged |

Gypsee... nope my arm doesn't fall asleep. It should, but I think that I lean back enough to where I'm not putting all my weight on my side. I also have the pillow thing going on that same side lol. IP: Logged |

have to have the trifecta down mattress cover down blanket and down pillows dotti (boxer rescue at my feet) suzie (chocolate lab) on one side hubby on the other. sometimes i have to kick dot and sue out so i can stretch out my legs..but sue alwasy sneaks back when she thinks i'm sleeping. usually i sleep like a rock but sometimes i just get up in the middle of the night and stay up usually get up around 5am no alarm clock, i go in to work when i get ready no matter what time it is. i sleep kinda cramped up because they all have to be touching me. dotti would die for me she loves me so much, so it kinda hard not to let her up there to protect me. and i have to have clean sheets and freshly made bed every day. i make it when i get out of it.IP: Logged |

gypsee - the post about iron is possibly the answer, but MOST of the minerals can leave you cramping or twitching if you don't get enough of them. my first suspect is always calcium, then potassium and magnesium, though iron is a good place to look too. and spirulina is a good source of minerals AND B vits, innit spanky? they can make a difference too...don't take meds for it!! nutrients are way better!! Thanks ladies, right now I can't take any vitties, I'm getting ready to start another 3 month round of infusion therapy for Leukopenia, which is basically IV treatments with specific things I'm lacking.Iron is a biggie and so is potassium. So that probably explains the RLS. If I get a bad flu, it can cause a Lupus flare. When I get a bad Lupus flare, it causes Leukopenia. This is my second time with this. Unfortunately, no cure for lupus, only maintenance meds. But my hemotologist said before, that I could take bottles of vitamins a day, and still not get what my body lacks, hence the infusion therapies. Wow, I hope THAT's not a thread killer!!! I listen to my meditation cd.I usually sleep on my right hand side, but change during the night. If I can't sleep, I will lie on my back with a rolled up towel under my knees. I seem to fall alseep very fast this way. My feet need to stick out from the blankets. I have a memory foam pillow. I can't sleep with knickers on, but usually need something around my shoulders. I like the feel of polar fleece against my cheek in winter. My dreams are busy and vivid, involving a lot of people. IP: Logged |
