I'll be starting a 'cooking' program at school this year with senior students. I'm used to cooking programs with younger children. So I need ideas!!!I think I may design my program around lunches for semester 1, then dinners for semester 2. Please, please tell me one favourite snack you had in your lunchbox as a kid. Cheers IP: Logged |

Are we talking high school? Or seniors for primary? If it's the former sorry no help didn't eat lunch at high school! Haha. As for primary school my mum use to make us ham, and chicken sandwiches which i didn't like and use to swap with my friends who had peanut butter. lol IP: Logged |

Good point Jon. Just think "school", "lunchbox" and "food" - age is irrelevant. Your answer is peanut butter sandwiches - cheers! IP: Logged |

My son's favorite snack to go with his lunch is an apple and a Twinkie. My favorite snack that I brought to work was those little individual cups of cinnomon applesauce. Both my daughters love that new Easy Mac, which is Macaroni and Cheese in a cup that you add water to, and microwave. It's not bad really. They also like the little cups of Jello, and puddings. Yeah, Trail mix granola Bars Yogurt cups or yogurt bars bananas I'de be a little cautious with peanut butter (and some of the trail mix stuff) until you find out if anyone is allergic to nuts. A common allergy.

My 5 year old likes his cup of apple sauce every single day. But he gets really excited when I throw in a single serving of potato chips or pretzels. I used to send him to preschool with those single serve pudding cups but I got banned because it made the other kids jealous!IP: Logged |

By "cooking" program, I understand that to mean you're teaching a class, one that sells lunches. In that case, Pizza and Mexican dishes are usually popular, as are brownies. This presumes you make it with real ingredients as opposed to the trash most schools get with their standard lunches. (I love pizza but even I could never stomach school caf pizza). As for fave snack, that was usually peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and a fruit drink of some kind. I almost never got a school lunch, not even at the snack bar, nor used their machines. I had to make my own lunches, and I didn't have much to work with, though. But I do remember liking salted nuts when I could get them. IP: Logged |

Cool...!!! thanks everyone! You've triggered my memory of long forgotten yummy treats!!!Dervish - we call everything we teach as a 'topic' a program. Cooking program, reading program, spelling program. I guess they could be called units, eg cooking unit etc...... I'd better get a plan ready for next week - and will use some of these great ideas!!! Thank you so much!!!! IP: Logged |

I like savoury muffins Koi. A bit of capsicum, zucchini, corn kernals & tasty cheese is so yummy. You can experiment with different veg, just remember to omit the sugar.
