I want to work with/for celebrities or to work for a movie production, ect.. I, however, know noone in the business. Do you have any information as to how or where to get a job like that..? Or know anyone who does it already? IP: Logged |

Get work as a non-union extra. Sign up at the local casting office so when they shoot where you are, you can get on set. Not much in GA - more in CA - specifically LA... but even more in Canada these days since the cost of shooting is a lot cheaper. I did work as an extra for years in LA when I was in my teens. It was a great way to get my foot in the door and get on the set, plus make a couple of bucks. I wanted to break into acting, but changed my mind since I hate the industry. By then I'd gotten some speaking roles, did some stunt double work, some casting work, some stand -in work, etc... But I didn't really know what I wanted, so I quit after I got bored. I was really young and could afford to be fickle You can't be afraid to schmooze. I would start with that before going out to apply as a PA. PAs (Production Assistants) make next to nothing and work grueling hours, MANY grueling hours... on top of that, everyone wants to be one since they go to film school lol. You might really think about what specifically you LIKE about the industry. That way you can corner the market and go directly for what you want, being flexible along the way. IP: Logged |

that was very helpful information, VM. I didn't know you were in the biz. Signing up as an extra would do it as a first step. I saw some listingS in GA but I thought they were bogus.I just want to be where the movies are shooting.I'm fascinated by it... IP: Logged |

Orange, I'm glad it helps a little. If you just look up casting agencies in the area, they will not be bogus. They also usually do not charge, except like a tiny fee to get you registered and on the books. If I were still eligible to work non-union, I would go do extra work. You get free meals also, plus often you can talk with people on the set like assistants and other set people to find out more about how to get a foot in the door.S, not all celebrities are bad at all. I've met some very decent people who happened to also be famous. Of course, there's also a level of douchebaggery which is to be expected. IP: Logged |

Dervish, I think I started to really dislike the industry for the same reasons I started to hate LA after years of living there lol.... I just saw a lot of inauthenticity there, a lot about trends only, etc...lots of 'politics'. You always have to be 'On', networking, etc... I think some people are good at dealing with BS and have a natural immunity to it, but I have a very low tolerance level for it. I found it draining after awhile. Lots of flaking, people not returning calls...all that stuff upsets me. It was like a constant game was going on and I was trying to cut through the game, while most people in the industry were telling me that the game-playing was part of the industry. I sooo do not have the patience for that type of thing. But I think had I REALLY been passionate about finding long-term work/career in the industry then i would not have minded so much, you know?IP: Logged |

Start practicing your Australian accent. Aussies seem to be a hit! Hugh Jackman to name only one. Australians can also be very funny! You either love 'em or hate 'em But you just gotta love 'em. Good luck cobber digger!!! IP: Logged |
