I love gay bars, have to been to the same one twice now...I love the drag shows, but more than that I love the energy!!! It is like walking into another world, where everybody is welcome and nobody is judged, it is like leaving this mundane society and graviting towards something higher.... My eldest a young lesbian agrees with me, it is an air of acceptance and she says this is what attracted her to the gay culture in the first place. And yes, I was kissed by a drag queen and laughed, and laughed and loved it!!! IP: Logged |

I love gay bars too. I always have a great time there. The energy is super high, and people treat each other as individuals. It's great!!I have never kissed a drag queen though, but, hey, life ain't over yet!! IP: Logged |

I am glad you both have had positive experiences! I have been deeply connected to the glbt community for most of my adult life to date. On the surface, alot of fun for sure! However sadly there is much sadness and oddly bigotries and lack of tolerance and acceptance betwixt the different "labels". And OMG, the nastiness betwixt many queens, or should I say, queen wannabes. And in my personal experience, intersex folks are not accepted by the glbt community.LOL! I have kissed Drag Queens, Cross Dressers, Transvestites, LOL....and the list goes on, lost count! I do prefer female impersonators over Drag Queens, same for male impersonators. The over camp can at times be sarcastic and insulting to the gender Queens and Kings parody, rather than the elegance of true impersonators who can pass as the gender they are portraying. ------------------ Everyone is a teacher... In San Fran there's a lot of queen snobbery too, lots of drama beyond drama (to where it's not fun!). Some fun gay bars, but there's still some serious issues which tend to surface in the community. IP: Logged |

I enjoy going to the one I go to because it's relaxing and I don't get hit on I love the fashion tips too! OMG, and the dancing! BTW, gay bars in my neck of the woods are nothing like tv. Or San Fran, for that matter. You probably wouldn't even know they were gay bars until you've spoken and gotten to know someone. But, I wonder, around here, the gay bars seem separate. What I mean is, the one I go to is a male gay bar, and there are no lesbians there. The lesbian bars have no men in them, is that strange or normal?? We used to have a HUGE awesome, 3 level gay bar, that had both genders, and terrific drag shows, it was fantastic!! It got shut down from too many drug busts. It was seriously, the most gorgeous (decorated) bar in Dayton, I miss that place! IP: Logged |

In Kali, I've seen plenty of both "coed" and strictly gay or lesbian clubs & bars (and can cater to an even more specific clientele as well). I get the general feeling of "just because." In Houston it was much more segregated. My impression was that the lesbians wanted a place where they didn't feel the pressures a man could bring in (and it's a violent city with a lot of hate crimes, nearly all of them done by men), and many get sick of the straight male obsession with lesbians. The clubs for gay men were more tolerant (but then they'd pretty much have to be if they wanted to stay in biz). My experiences in Frisco were especially bad with about everyone, gay AND straight. In fact, when I've encountered especially asinine people in real life I've caught myself wondering if they were from Frisco. I'm glad I got to see it and all, but I hope to avoid even passing through it again. As for energy & dancing, here's a vid I watch in amazement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrW0kySM6CE IP: Logged |

Dervish! :-) Great video! Sadly in my area there are too many very scary ugly wannabe Queens and few great ones. I certainly would not want to get beauty advice from these kind of trolls! Drag King is a girl dressed like a boy, yes. I used to do a Frank Sinatra drag king performance in SF many years ago at the lesbian clubs, lipsynching 'Luck Be a Lady'...ahhh, those were the days IP: Logged |

GypseeWind, From above images, I felt that they're very unhappy inside. Yes, they all make people laugh and have fun with their shows and appearances, but I think they're seriously suffering. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm just telling what I feel. Personally, I can't have fun in a place like that.IP: Logged |

Winged Leo Yes, in my personal experience many are very unhappy people. It is often like they say of clowns, "laughing on the outside, crying on the inside". Many of my friends are drag queens and cross dressers. The pretty blond fellow is happy and well adjusted though. He is a sweet guy. Here is how he normally looks.

GypseeWind, The picture of the girl with the fake drawn on beard is a drag king...well in my opinion, a wannabe one.I prefer drag when folks can pass as the opposite sex, not make a farce of it. There is a vast difference betwixt "high camp" which can be exotic, alien, or even surreal beautiful, and the low down scag drag the wannabes do. I have done male impersonation too, but p!ss the wannabe's/drag kings off because I actually can grow a beard and mustache. Have not been to a club in over a decade. Too many sleazy places now, with no class. And many of the new breed of scag draggers are catty nasty b!tchy backstabbing drama queens. Oh the fights! And running from one man to the next! Sad actually.

A drag king is a woman who does the same as a drag queen, except they portray a guy, or try to. This is one: Not very good in my opinion. The beard is drawn on, just like the guys who mock women and overdo it and paint fake cleavages. Here is a video of some. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jgfb1puGbgs Like I said...I p!ss off drag kings because I do not need to fake the "look". Scroll down to the collage. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/000104-15.html

Hippichick, You're right, we are ALL suffering, but it was not what I was trying to say. LEXX said it better than me (thank you! ). I mean, look at the first picture, does he/she seem happy with his/her life? Is there anything amusing in his/her life? (a drunk male trying to squeeze his/her fake breasts). I really don't see anything funny in their life style. And I don't think they like what they see in the mirror, yet they keep living that life for various reasons (to earn a living, escape from inner unhappiness..etc). It's really sad to me.I hope I'm not being misunderstood. I'm not judging. I just feel their pain. IP: Logged |

Winged Leo You are closer to the truth of it ball than most folks realize. Oh sure, some are having fun, but there are too many sad aging lonely old queens. Many drink far to much and have no real life outside the club scenes, which is too often these days about who can put on the most obscene act and no longer is it about talent in most cases. And yes, all were quite drunk in those pictures, except the pretty blond who is a female impersonator not a drag queen.
