Betty Boop gave me the idea with her Separation Of Powers string. Who wants to join? How many should we have? I like Linda's description of the number 12 in groupings in Star Signs (12 tribes of Israel, etc.). You have to be willing to devote time to discussing (off-the-site) when we have a controversial topic--the goal being to determine if it croses that somewhat vaguely drawn and ever elusive line. I would defer to the 3/4 vote of the committee. IP: Logged |

Hopefully you elect people who have not carried extremist views about the site or its members and moderators? Otherwise, obviously the system will start off flawed.IP: Logged |

Yeah, I agree about Mercury. That Planet is to be respected. Maybe I shouldn't limit to a set number and just take as many as volunteer?IP: Logged |

Ummm, let's see if I've got this right. Not only are you talking about controlling speech content; you're also talking about deciding what topics can be discussed? IP: Logged |

I think you,Randall, have to think what is best/easiest for you. You shoulder the burden for us so that we have the ability to be part of a life enhancing community. Little is asked of us, the community members. To me,and probably most Mod's ,it is a privilege. I think that your needs are the key in this . What would make it easiest for you? What would make your burden lighter. I think we ,all ,want that for you. ------------------ In this world, you will have tribulation but do not fear I have overcome the world. If there is some system that does the above,I think it should be employed. If not,I don't think it should .------------------ In this world, you will have tribulation but do not fear I have overcome the world. He who controls his Spirit is greater than he who controls a city Proverbs IP: Logged |

Hi, Jwhop! Good question. We had a blow-out here over a string where mothers were harshly critucized. While I did not agree with the subject matter, I left it alone in the name of protecting unpopular speech. I guess I'm trying to determine where freedom of expression becomes inciteful or inflammatory. Applicable cases would likely be extremely rare. Instead of just myself alone making the determination, I would enlist the opinions of others. In the above-mentioned example, some would say that the person in question intentionally made inflammatory posts meant to incite. I'm certainly not wanting to invoke any level of censorship, though. Should inflammatory posts that denigrate a group (Like mothers, for instance) be prohibited? Or is it still protected speech?IP: Logged |

"Lindland Committee"So you're going to formalize a clique? That won't make anyone feel alienated. IP: Logged |

Nah, more like a system of checks and balances to remove the bulk of power from the hands of one person--myself...in cases like the one we just encountered (which is a rarity).IP: Logged |

This is a "quick" opinion and the gut is my basis. If we think we have troubles now, Add another dozen to the mix and we just increase the trouble/tensions. We can`t, at this juncture, get the few to meet in the middle and adding more is creating a smaller "middle"?? I simply see getting the current mods on board and knowing the boundries is a large enough chunk to bite off for now. `course, just my onion : ------------------ ~The Earth Laughs In Flowers~ ... Well Randall, I stand foursquare for mothers , the flag and apple pie.Who here would be so crass as to attack the institution of motherhood? I think you already know the answer to what seems like the dilemma of what constitutes uniform, fair and unbiased treatment for all our members and who is best suited to exercise the authority to keep it that way. In spite of a few, very few over the years who have sniped at you from the cheap seats, you have always shown an uncommon level of fairness and shown restraint in exercising authority when tempers flared. In my opinion, that should continue and the excellent slate of Moderators you have assembled can step in and enforce LindaLand rules as necessary.
